Racist Gun Turn-In
- A church on Chicago’s West Side is hoping gift cards will get residents to turn in guns this weekend.
Hope Community Church will give a $100 VISA gift card in exchange for a gun. If you have a BB Gun, air gun or replicas, they can also be turned in for $10 each.
No questions asked and no personal information is required.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 5900 West Iowa Street in the parking lot.
How come they never have these at Nativity of Our Lord in Bridgeport or All Saints Basilica?It seems racist to assume that only black people want to turn in guns.
And another article about a Gun Safety group turning in busted up guns to get over $12,000 in funds for their NRA programs.

So lame - so they are encouraging the stealing of guns for money .... nice. My wife was at Target in the burbs the other day and relays me her experience at the front desk. A nappy community member gal brought in a large cart of diaper packs (all the same and the largest boxes you can get) and boxes of baby wipes. She wanted to return them for cash or in store credit. She did not have a receipt. Woman told her the store is not accepting returns for these types of products due to Covid. Of course, nappy walks away mouthing off “motha fuckers” and stuff to the clerk. Hmmmmm ... nappy is still trying to return looted goods is my guess. Maybe same principle applies to gun returns?

They bring in dozens of totally worthless junk and get $100 for each.

I got four maybe six old junkers I wish I could get turned in. I would split the money and still come out ahead.
Inquiring minds want to know:
* Is someone an FFL?
* Is the person(s) giving the gift cards checking FOID's?
* Are they keeping records of the transfer for 10 years?
If not, then why aren't ALL of them going to prison for 10 yrs per firearm, 10 yrs per FOID not checked, 10 yrs for failure to keep records?
What happens to all the firearms?

The guns get melted, unless they're "assault weapon" sinister-looking. Then they get saved and trotted out for the next big photo-op.
For every one turned in 5000 more out there. I'm sure the ones turned in are either faulty, broken or just some old ladies dead husbands gun that she doesn't want around the house.

I turned in 22 revolver with no firing pin that had been stored in a cardboard box for a decade or more and collected a $100 gift card. By turning in that piece of junk, I know I helped reduce violent crime. Glory be. I feel good.

Retired now, but I recall a gun buy back program in Cabrini by a reverend there over 20 years ago in which they were giving ca$h for any type of guns, replica's etc in any condition.
(It basically was for a Photo-Op later that day)
I spoke with a M/2 good ol' boy who drove up in his pick up truck with Indiana license plates.
He brought in a box of old, broken, rusted inoperative handguns and long rifles.
He walked out openly counting close to $600.00 in ca$h.
As he passed me by he laughed and said, "Thank you for your Chicago hospitality!"
The money is given to the city via corporate donors. The city only gives black churches the gift cards. CPD takes the guns and does not forensically exam them but trace the guns thru ATF. This is why there is a higher number of guns from Indiana. People from Indio go to these things and drop off their old guns.
I took my Dad to one at some make believe church (M.B.) on the East side last year.
He had four guns that he already had appraised and was offered $25 for all of them at a gun shop. Total pieces of shit, even worse than a rusted Lorcin.
$420 bucks later (i threw in a toy gun and a broken BB gun) that grateful old Bohemian offered to buy me a cup coffee, Thanks Daddy!

Retired CPD, saw the post on the blog last night and since I typically miss these events decided to make the trip to the west side today. Confess I was more than a little skeptical considering past negative comments about M/2s especially from the north side showing up only to be told the event was only for the black community. I was surprised to find a totally festive atmosphere at the church. There was a music and free food being given out to people in the parking lot across the street. There was a good police presence directing those with guns down the stairs into the basement of the church. I didn’t have to provide identification and no questions were asked. A couple of cops sat at a table on one side examining each firearm to determine if it was in fact a real gun. Once verified they gave the civilians sitting at another table the ok to hand you a $100 visa gift card. Sorry for being long winded here, but I was really impressed with the simplicity of the operation. Turned in three old handguns and two rifles walked away with $500!

Awww. Damn. In the good ol' days there were NO questions asked. I turned in several replica guns; full-size/weight/real-looking fakes. I used the gift cards to buy ammo.

Do these guns get tested before they are destroyed ? If not its great way to get rid of a gun used in a crime
Now if only here in Texas they would pay $100 for a 'gun turnin'. I have a real junker .25 ACP (with factory box!) I'd love to cash in so I could buy more stock.
