Furlough Days

They did this a number of years ago - only exempt members since they aren't covered by an actual contract:
  • Talked to a neighbor who is cfd, rumor has it the command staff will be asked to take unpaid furlough days next year. I’m betting cpd will be next.
If we recall, it was somewhere between ten and fifteen days? Something almost like a full paycheck.

City don’t have money— not for CFD or CPD that is— I bet you they come up with money some place else tho. This whole city don’t have money is pure bullshit. I seen it time and time again how the city pays for this and that.

CPD command staff has been taking furlough days since 2008. Nothing new here. When I was a commander I had to take 17 furlough days per year just as long as they weren’t over the summer. I believe it’s now up to 20 days per year for commander and above pay grades. The days can’t be taken back to back though.

How about a compromise here.No more RDO,s cancelled and no more 12 Hour Days and everyone gets paid furlough days and can take comp time as they need to.

As I recall they took unpaid days but were expected to go into the office
and keep the paperwork flowing. Worked for free.
This is an excellent idea and Carter should get another award for thinking of it,
even though he didn't.

Absolutely!Lets give all the CPD Command Staff the 1st 2 weeks of November off as unpaid furlough days. How about stopping the cancelling of days off and the extending of tours of duty to 12 hours?I know the Mayor is anti religion so why not also give all the CPD Civilian employees the last 2 weeks of December off as unpaid furlough days?

Or they could also just do away with 25% of the exempt positions.
Operationally the department would likely be unaffected, and the savings would be huge.

Also cut half the aldermen while we’re at it.

Back late 2000’s, around ‘07 thru ‘10 maybe, anybody that was Commander or above had to take 12 unpaid days off a year. But, you couldn’t take them at once. You had to take one unpaid day off a month. Wouldn’t be surprised if they make it two days a month now for all exempts. Also think Captains, who are not exempt but are appointed, will be strongly encouraged to take at least a day a month. Don’t be surprised to see any Lt that wants to become a Captain or Commander volunteer to do it as well.

after the 911 shutdowns and tax losses the city workers took furlough days in about 2003. i think we took 3 each. well worth it if it worked but all the bail outs and bail ins in the world wont help these politicians. if trump gave groot 20 billion tomorrow, bitch wouldnt pay one past due bill or put a dime in the pensions. she would just send more shiny bking to the ghetto with palm cards telling dude who to vote for. its later than you think kids.

If it'll reduce that bloated pension they get, give 'em 15 unpaid days per year, every year. Maybe we can get Beetle Juice to take 15 unpaid days off per year to reduce the number of days she can damage what left of the tax base here.

You are correct when you said this happened a number of years ago. What happened next was the experienced, more senior Battalion Chiefs said “No Thanks” when offered an exempt rank promotion, there is no incentive in getting promoted and making less money ( explain that to the wife), and having no union representation. So now we are still feeling the affects of that with less experienced, non combatant, power hungry yes men ( and women) as bosses. It will most certainly get worse.

What they need to do is get rid of the ignorant administrative aides working the desk. Third watch 012 has two of the nastiest and laziest women. They get up and walk away when people walk in. One is excessively rude using the f bomb repeatedly. They have no respect for supervisors who order them to take reports. Why we have them is beyond me. They are useless and a waste of money. It’s their job to take reports if they won’t do that then get rid of them. If my memory serves, if there are layoffs or cuts civilians are the first to go. Those two need to be one and two.

This already happened in the private sector this year. Management took one week per month furloughed with no pay. Without a contract your employer can adjust your pay without notice. But hey your still a boss.

Retired ISP here, Governor George Ryan wanted everyone to take an unpaid furlough day. I took the Monday after the Superbowl.

FOP said you cannot do it, you have to layoff Troopers according to the contract by seniority.

That summer everyone who had already taken the furlough day given two days off with pay.

The program was terminated and taking an unpaid furlough day was no longer required.

Exempts should be taking pay cuts. They are way overpaid and appointed due to their clout either political or nepotism. Each makes a minimum of bout 150,000 a year bankrupting the city and our pension. Group of overpaid idiots, then we don't need furlough days problem solved police defunded money saved on pension!

Larri wont call it a defund measure, but what was old is new again.
I recall sometime around 2008 so Exempts had to take No pay furlough days, maybe a week or twos worth over the course of a year. On top of No pay, getting shipped out across town, and belittling at monthly meetings, they had a difficult time finding anyone to apply for the DC position. The axman JFed Experiment couldn’t find volunteers. Did 007 have a combo DC-Dep Chief and they enlisted Henny~Penny to run 011, probably the shortest period for a DC on record.

Fuck that, I say give them a month off, useless anyway. And these civilian bosses, give them two. Most have been "working from home" and haven't been seen in months, except at their summer homes in Michigan, Wisconsin, etc. Plenty of fat to trim at CPD. Stay with all of Bobby Book's promoters.

About 2006-2007 they pulled the same stunt & had the exempts take a handful of unpaid days by the end of the year.
My commander strung them along, then retired in November of that year without giving them shit.
I'm sure none of the current lapdogs would have the stones to do that today.

DOnt worry about exempts taking any time.

All they care about is hitting 4 years in grade exempt pay.(GOLD BRAID)
and off into the abyss with special ED.

SO for you not so great at math yea you lose a few weeks but do you really think the exempt of Constitution actually puts time in to be off?
Ask any time keeper how many commanders use any comp time? 3 hours here half a day there. never swiping. take home car so always can say you working. Have you ever seen how many hours exempts cash in when the retire?

so if the mayor offers you an exempt spot take it your salary will be the same for retirement purposes and being retired is forever.

Very untrue! I know for a fact that the exempts have not gotten a raise in at least six years. Many of them are pissed at the fact that Captains, when you figure in their quarterly, uniform, and differential checks are earning as much, if not more than Commanders.
