- Chicago police officers have been warned gang members in the Pilsen area may be targeting cops for retaliation after a man was shot to death by police earlier this week.
An officer safety alert, issued Wednesday by Near West District Cmdr. [...], states “there may be a possible retaliation towards CPD due to the recent shooting towards the police and by the police involving La Raza.” A copy of the memo was obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.
According to [the] alert, several high-ranking members of La Raza had a conference call this week in which they said “something had to be done” about the fatal shooting of Miguel Vega.

I remember a former cigar-chomping chief of patrol who initiated an "operation" anytime a gang member decided to engage a police officer in even a fist fight, let alone a gun fight.
It sort of went like this: if you hurt a police officer or shot at one, your gang and your neighborhood would see police officers in force in your neighborhood, disrupting their illegal businesses, locking up people/folks for the pettiest of offenses, parkers and movers/TVBs, etc., to the point that the gangs rarely ever would consider hurting an officer, and when they did, they would turn in their own to stop said operation against them.

No, they don’t have the deep pockets of the City, but the point isn’t the money, it’s some form of accountability. If the damn criminal justice system won’t hold them accountable, maybe the civil justice system can. Even Barb West just said that officers suffer trauma.
