Putzker has been releasing an increase in COVID numbers at recent pressers in preparation for the pre-election lock down that everyone assumes is coming. The CDC has once again released revised numbers:
- The CDC just quietly revised the mortality rate by age group for people infected with COVID-19:
0-19 years: 0.0001%
20-49 years: 0.0003%
50-69 years: 0.010%
70+ years: 0.093%
By comparison, the overall mortality rate for the common flu is far higher at 0.1%.

The great American hoax
On a case-by-case basis, the average flu remains about ten times less deadly than the corona; both corona and flu tend to kill the very old and frail disproportionately, though, which is why there needs to be a limit to how much we shut down the rest of society.
Population-wide corona mortality is currently very flu-like mainly because there have very likely been far fewer corona cases in this country this year than the number of flu cases seen in a typical year. Probably not more than half as many corona infections than average-year flu infections. Had we let corona spread as widely and quickly as the flu usually spreads we would have had a very ugly year.
Without some amount of mitigation, there is a real risk that Chicago ends up looking like NYC -- a mortality rate many times the national average, crammed hospitals, dead bodies stacked in U-Hauls, etc.
But the necessary amount of mitigation is probably quite mild, like what they've done in Sweden and Texas. Imposing onerous and arbitrary lockdowns is just a way for Democrats get their jollies by lording absolute power over the average taxpayer. It is disgusting and unnecessary.

Flu cases are estimated anywhere between 9 million and 45 million per year in the US by the CDC, so that .1% is a much greater number than those dying of covid. Then throw in the fact that anyone who dies while infected with covid counts as a covid death, even if they're shot in the face while being run over by a train and eaten by a hippo. The true covid deaths, actually caused or at least precipitated by covid, are much lower. So, sure it's not just the flu, and it has some weird effects, and it's not fully understood yet, but the fact is that it's far less deadly than the flu. It's not a reason to destroy the economy, fuck up an election, fuck up education, etc. But they'll use it and abuse it to push their agenda and try to elect their demented morons. And when Biden loses, rioting, protesting, looting, burning, raping, pillaging, etc., will all be just fine, because everyone knows you can't catch a virus if you're supporting the lies of BLM and the antifa fools. Gathering in groups is only safe if you're whining or committing crimes.

I believe it is the flu. A novel strain that we haven't seen before. Try to find regular flu numbers on the same CDC site. You can't. I believe everything is being lumped together under covid, just like when my aunt passed away of a heart attack in an assisted care facility - they made that covid because she tested positive even though she suffered from severe heart disease for years.
We have a vaccine for the flu for people who choose to take it. We do not for covid. The only thing we have to fight covid is mitigation: masks, distance,and hand cleaning. Over 200,000 people have died from covid in about 6 months, with mitigation. How many would have died without mitigation? The Officer Down Memorial Page lists covid as the leading cause of death of Police Officers so far this year at 114; death by firearms (murder) is at 35 right now, about 1 a week. Covid has killed more officers than all other causes combined. It is not about the mortality rate of flu vs. covid. The mortality rate is also affected by mitigation. Aside from nursing homes at risk people are taking steps not to be infected. If folks like me, old fat and with high blood pressure weren't careful, the mortality rate would be much higher.
You stand a better chance of not dying if you're shot if you're wearing a vest, mitigation is our protection from covid. I agree that some restrictions are a little harsh and I hate Pritzger and Lightfoot, but these are just the facts, mitigation saves lives. One more thing, epidemiologist and infectious disease experts, not a neuroradiologist,estimate 2,000,000 at the very least if there is no mitigation and we try to achieve heard immunity, and this is low as hospitals would be overwhelmed and more would die becasue of lack of treatment. If you had cancer would you go see a neuroradiologist or an oncologist?
Spent the weekend in Springfield, which usually rolls up the sidewalks at 8 o'clock when the legislature is not in session, and the city was like a ghost town. Most of the bars and restaurants in the downtown "Capitol District" were completely shut down. Even the hotel restaurant and bar was closed while the establishment had guests staying in its rooms.
It seemed like the pandemic restrictions were being rigidly enforced and that many owners or operators of the bars and restaurants chose to shut down rather than lose more money by trying to open their doors to the public. It would not be practical to pay staff employees to work shifts with only a handful of patrons.
It was necessary to travel to the city limits or suburbs to get something to eat other than fast food.
Pritzker's moves are not driven by following the science. His decisions are wholly political and he is following the party line set by Pelosi and Schumer. Talking to locals, many were griping about the fact that Pritzker and his family have repeatedly broken the rules that they have imposed upon others. He is not demonstrating any obligation to make a show sharing in the sacrifices being made by us peons.

Just out of boredom I have been running a 10 day average of the COVID 19 deaths in the USA from John Hopkins. When I started this back in mid-August there were 900 to 1000 people dying every day. That number is now down in the 700 to 800 range over a period of six week. Where the future will take it who know, but the numbers are down. There was no Labor Day weekend spike and if the Catholic in person schooling is any indication the COVID trend is decreasing.
Gearing up for one more lockdown push before Mail In Voting cutoff of Oct 27th and Census is over on Oct 5th.

The IFR is a ratio - not a percentage. You’d have to multiply those numbers by 100 to get the percentage and compare to the flu. Covid is very low risk, but still 5-9 times more deadly than the flu....

Mitigation? There is NO scientific evidence masks work, PERIOD! 0-19 years: .003% about 1 in 30,000
20-49 years: 0.02% or 1 in 5,000
50-69 years: 0.5% or 1 in 200
70+ years: 5.4% about 1 in 19
Anyone disagree with this? The numbers matter. I personally think it's not helpful to lump in 70+ together, because the percentage really jumps after 80, so people in 70s is more like 3% and non-comorbid 70 year somethings lower than 3%.
