Moving Costs

This is what it currently costs to move into and out of selected California cities:

A simple Supply and Demand chart....and it costs triple, quadruple, even ten times the inbound amounts in many cases.

Anyone know what it costs in Illinois to move out to other locations...and can you make a chart?

I don't know about anybody else, but my U-haul rentals 1-way Chicago to Tampa FL were always around 1k. For the rest of you thinking of moving here, we're only accepting hardcore republicans. You die-hard Chicago democrats can fuck off.

A turbo-exodus from Democrat-run cities ans states.

Yet so many of the good citizens of these shitholes can't connect the dots. They keep voting for the incompetents and destroyers.

I checked Chicago to East Tennessee several weeks ago, it was about a 4x difference. The data I posted in that other Uhaul thread was valid for the end of August. Looks like you found some even more impressive differences, though I was not checking popular move-to cities like Phoenix.

My expectation is that it will keep going up, because right now a lot of people want to leave but need to either get a job lined up first or be launched from their old one and thus have nothing to lose. There's the house type thing, but one of the dirty little secrets of the white collar world is that most office drones under the age of 40 could never afford to buy one. It's one of the principal drivers of millennial unrest--the realization that they have no financial stability due to mountains of debt and everything-as-a-service corporate rent-seeking--but it also means that there's nothing holding them down when it's time to move on. The fall will be precipitous, though the finance dorks and their political buddies will act like they didn't see it coming as they've done with every obvious manmade disaster for the last 40 years.

Exactly three years ago it cost me $10,000.00 with United Van Lines to move my family from Carol Stream to Georgetown, Texas. It was well worth every cent I paid. I would pay double that if I had to. Also sold my house for a 26K loss. Would do that again too. My new house in TX has appreciated nearly 50K in 3 years so the loss is made up and then some. Get the hell out of Illinois if you can. You WILL NOT regret it! My only regret is that I didn’t move 10 years earlier than I did!

I live in a great town. Low crime, no riots, no protests, no Democrats. My wife's best friend moved here and brought her cross-dressing, Obama supporting, fake Purple Heart awarded (he admitted it to me, he thought an actual combat veteran would be cool with him ripping off the government) husband with her. The first time I met this freak, he was telling me that our town does not have nearly enough diversity. I told him that he is going to hate it here and that he should move back to Chicago. Strangely enough, he isn't making many friends here. He did ask me for a loan, some things will never change. Typical.

It’s easy...front Chicago to outside cook county = free if you’re financially disadvantaged

From outside Chicago moving into Chicago = 1. A mental evaluation 2. Must have a rap sheet. 3. Must be a demorat 4. Mr Lightloafers has to approve 5. Must be willing to accept free cell phone, link card, a new apartment at about 10% what the working class/sorry I meant idiots that work pay, free bus passes, and must be part of the BLM, reparations R us, antifa, anti trump, and own Atleast one handgun!

Simple you see.

Try to down size prior to your move out of state. I moved to Montana last year.
The major moving companies (United/Midway) were all charging a little over 10 grand to load up
A full household and deliver to my new home town. No back pain for me or spouse.
Been pretty peaceful here, best decision I ever made.
Get out as soon as you are able, you won't regret it.

I moved to northwest Indiana in April. Moving costs were reasonable. In the event we came out ahead of the game because the overall cost of living is so much lower in Indiana.

A friend recently retired to the Houston area from Hellinois. They found it cheaper to rent a trailer in the Houston area and pull it both ways to return to get the wanted items they couldn't fit in the truck on their initial trip, prior to closing on the sale in Hellinois. We haven't missed Chicagoland for the 2 years since we left.

Groot, the Fat Ass Gov and their Marxist political friends are the cause of residents feeling Chicago and the debtor State of Illinois. Bankruptcy is around the corner. Everyone knows it. The Marxist Democrats and the biased, activist, fake new media attempt to hide the exodus from Murder City.

The Murder Queen distracts from the killers and gunslingers by peddling the bullshit numbers regarding the Wuhan Red Death. Keep frightening the low information voters and the folks on the political plantation. Don't forget the downtown liberals, the viagra triangle and the rest of the dummies voting for President Harris and the old guy living in the basement. All their faith, hope and free shit is depending on their Marxist Democrats .

In the meantime, the U-hauls and trucking companies are moving vast population from disaster areas like Chicago to anywhere but here.

Retired in the Phoenix area. Very nice. Clean, low crime area. Always been deep red state. Now, the cockroaches are slithering out of Cali. Very typical libs. They ruin that state through all their lib actions but then don't want to live in the cesspool they created. Hey lets all vote for windmills! We're so cool and socially respectful! Oh shit!!! There's no air conditioning when it's 105 degrees out. Fuck this! We're out of here! Our fucked up attitudes haven't changed but let's run to where the fiscally responsible people make it cheaper and safer.

As I said used to be a deep red state. Now one senator wears green hair on the senate floor (just the most typical classless lib) and the one republican senator air force veteran is about to lose to one of the phoniest dems (aren't they all) in existence. So far the gov is a deep red conservative but who know how long that will last.

It would be cost effective to fly to one of the cheaper cities, rent aUhaul, drive it back empty and load up your belongings, then drive back to where you rented it from.

Groot thinks everyone else is at fault. Loony Larry blames Trump not himself for pitiful decisions made.

If you plan to move after retirement perhaps better to rent first than find out it's not what it seems after you buy.

Shithole gouging. With prices like that it’s no wonder the riotous looters had a tough time finding a y’all haul truck to stea....borrow until recovered.
One way shot, it’s hard to get those trucks back into IL, can’t blame them for having to rent tractor trailers to piggyback them back to restock the inventories.

What would Be interesting is to see Larri’s travel, food/lodging/gas expenses and mileage spreadsheet...for those getaway Thursdays every weekend.
Wonder if shes topping off with city gasoline at the pumps or just uses burner credit cards?

Audit the Betelgeuse Groot.

moved out almost 6 years ago. just call the u-haul rentals a exit tax. well worth it.

money saved just from property tax is now over 40k.

i come back AT LEAST twice a year. stay at a state park with my travel trailer. the storage facility will put it on the camp site for 75 bucks. all i have to do is drag it back.

retirement kicks ass from my wrap around porch facing the cumberland mountains. you can to.

Bit of advice. When you do plan to move out of Illinois, try and sell as many belongings as you can before you haul everything you own.
It's cheaper to buy new furniture in your new home town than to pay a moving company. That was my lesson learned.

To those people who moved to Arizona... keep in mind that the southern part of Arizona will only be getting hotter and hotter as years go by, with water shortages also a big concern.

I grew up in Phoenix in the 1960s and still go back every year or two. I would not wish to live there again. Much better in the northern part of the state.

Best idea yet... google the counties that President Trump got the biggest margins in 2016.
That way, you'll be surrounded by a much more intelligent, better-looking group of people.

The mileage fee was $.99/mile when I thought about that. A 2300 mile round trip would have cost double the 1-way rate, just in the mileage fee alone.

And by nice/normal I really mean right leaning dems that are super old like my mom, who are reps deep down. Cost me $7,000 to move from Green Bay to E TN. Gorgeous land here and super nice people.
