Safe passage workers were employed over the summer because the breakfast and lunch program was still going on at CPS schools. Students were receiving breakfast and lunch each day over the summer. Staff members were at each CPS school handing out box lunches between the hours of 9am-1pm. Besides children still traveled to school play lots and large parks like McKinley park over the summer.

I asked one of the earlier this summer why they are out, esp since schools are closed and the virus pandemic in full gear, she responded because the kids still go to school for their breakfasts and lunch...can you believe that shit??? Amazing how much money is being wasted, so much for parents being responsible for their kids.
Part of the safe passage program is to make sure the kiddos don't get a virus on their computers or fall for spam email. I am sure that is what the repurposed workers are doing as we speak.
It takes trained professionals to oversee these activities and while not as demanding as standing on a street corner with a bright colored vest, the tasks performed are vital to keep this city operating.
At just $10 an hour... These selfless public servants are underpaid and they, plus all the CTU members, need a big pay hike and soon.
The city paying $10 an hour to people who don't show up to work is for once a savings if you look at what Chicago normally pays some employees (hourly rate or years salary) who don't show up for work... Finally! Some cost cutting initiatives.

All Safe Passage workers have be put to alternative use: Each is on daily patrol scouting for sites which would be suitable for the proposed Chicago casino.

What about the CPS teachers who don't show up for virtual/in person work? The Pandemic EBT SNAP program is designed to support low-income families who rely on schools to provide healthy meals to their students during the school year.
Chicago Public Schools, which will start the upcoming school year with digital-only instruction, has and will continue to give away meal kits containing three breakfasts and three lunches to anyone under 18 throughout the fall, but the SNAP extension will help families throughout the state buy groceries.
To be eligible for the extended SNAP benefits, households must have at least one school-aged child, ages 3-17 or 18-22 (so long as they’re in high school), who would receive a free or reduced lunch under the National School Lunch Program when school is in session.
Unlike regular SNAP benefits, eligibility is not based on household income, resources or citizenship.
Upon approval, families will receive a P-EBT LINK card in the mail with instructions on how to set up a PIN and use the card. Benefits will already be available on the card to make food purchases at most grocery stores.
Families already receiving SNAP benefits do not need to apply and are automatically eligible. Those families can expect to have their P-EBT benefits loaded into their Illinois LINK EBT account in addition to their regular SNAP benefits.

The other interesting thing I am hearing (I was a Former CPS teacher and left back in 2011 when the Social Justice curricula started being shoved down our throats)... The teachers all thought that they would be able to put their feet up and take it easy like last Spring when the schools were shut down. Apparently, the work load has increased and making it more difficult for them. They are fighting any accountability. I do not suggest children should be tested remotely. Who knows who would be answering the questions, but there are other tools for assessment. Of course, the CTU will fight this...but GROOT is keeping the schools closed until after the election. Then, the virus concerns will suddenly disappear. I really think they are counting on a Biden win....which is more motivation to vote TRUMP this November. I will be voting early IN PERSON. I would wear a HAZMAT SUIT if that is what it took to vote in person, but according to all the Democrats and their Propaganda Arm (media) masks will protect us! When does the Mt. When my kids were young, they would come home and say they "hate" someone (friend, teacher, coach, etc) I would sit down and explain hate is a pretty powerful word and in the end we would come to the conclusion that it wasn't hate they were feeling but rather it was a misinterpretation, someone was having a bad day, etc., but never hate.
Everything I see now is hate, even those "Hate has no home here" signs emphasize hatred. The 2016 version of Trump is different than President Trump but people are basing their opinion on that version rather what he is doing for the country now.
When have you seen any politician who made promises to get elected actually follow through with his promises. Did he start any wars? Did he stand up to bullies like China? Did he put an end to illegal immigration? Did he protect our industries? He redid all those bad trade deals, NAFTA, Iran Nuclear Trade Deal, Paris Climate Accord, and the list goes on and on.
Hatred is an excuse for acting uncivil. Ask anyone who is voting for Biden and eventually they will say "I Hate Trump." That is where the conversation and debate ends. Democrats have been duked, plain and simple. The Swamp doesn't want to be drained because it is too lucrative.

Also ask yourself why the state has an extra pandemic EBT payment for families with school aged kids...nothing like double dipping. I’ve never been to the 5th floor of City Hall, but I was told by a somewhat reliable source that LL had old artwork removed from the hallways that reflected the founding of Chicago as she found it offensive to her person (White Men). I have visited Chicago many times and always felt safe downtown, until my last visit in July. I still felt safe then, but was a little uneasy, and stayed on high alert. After the second BLM riot, I’m not so anxious to return. It’s sickening, because it really is a great city (downtown).
I always felt "at home" in Chicago. I traveled on business then and flew in and out of Chicago often. One of my fondest memories was taking my family during Christmas and shopping The Miracle Mile. One of my most memorable visits anywhere. Now the "real" Chicago is gone. Without the police the city is not the same. Nobody feels safe, bars are closed, and the vibe is bad. I would not recommend visiting or living in Chicago anymore.
This election is shaping up as those who support the good guys vs those who support the bad guys. GOP supports the police and law & order; liberals support riots and chaos.
It's funny how most of the riots in areas not named Seattle and Portland suddenly stopped or stopped being reported on. Almost as if democrat organizations were in control of them and passed down orders to stop when they discovered their organized riots were backfiring in the court of public opinion. Everything seems so orchestrated and now the Democrats are trying to reel BLM/Antifia back because they are hurting the polls. I think the damage is done and if Trump wins be prepared for a month of riots in every major city, trying to force their way and sway public opinion to allow Biden to win. The government, city, state and federal is the full employment office for the inner city. People in the civilian sector are being laid off or taking a pay cut, but not in Illinois government. A friend of mine may be a CPS teacher and went into his classroom after several months of being locked out. He said the building was filthy and his classroom hadn’t been cleaned since he left. What ticks me off is ALL of the liberal talking heads jumping on the George Floyd band wagon the second the video was released.
They were right there with Antifa and BLM lighting the fires at the riots. Now that all the facts are released and if they don't get the verdict they want (life in prison) we will be in round 6 of the riots and the nonsense.
Get ready for two more waves of riots. One on an election night when Trump and the GOP sweep the nation. The second when all four officers in the Floyd case are acquitted and reinstated as police officers with full pensions.
Floyd's lungs weighed nearly three times the normal weight of functioning lungs. He drowned. He overdosed on fentanyl and it clogged up his lungs. The MN medical examiner here determined this back at the end of May and the information was held back by MN AG Keith Ellison until the end of August. Ellison's holding back on this information helped bring about all the riots. Medical facts tell a different story.
These 2nd degree murder charges on all 4 are over charging and need to be immediately dropped. The 3 secondary officers will be found not guilty of any charges. There is a remote possibility Chauvin could be convicted of involuntary manslaughter or what's called here in MN, 3rd degree murder. Chauvin is in jail already, since late May. The trial will probably be delayed until next summer, maybe more if there are separate trials. If convicted, Chauvin would face only another 12-18 months in jail, with the time already served. Chauvin could also be found not guilty. The rest of the US needs to be prepared for the high probability that there will be little, if any convictions of the officers. It won't be due to systemic racism, but the fact that Floyd had overdosed on fentanyl and that with his poor health, it caused his death.

My wife and I were talking about that this past week. The "tolerant" left is driving a wedge into acceptance of opposing opinions.. They are tolerant as long as you agree with them. It's like the people that say "Trump is Mean or racist," then when you ask them for examples, they say, "He just is." Can't give examples, then they say nice things like, "You suck if you vote for Trump."
If you look at the big picture, the US has tremendous potential. From it's founding to today, the US still has more opportunities for more people in more different areas of life than any other country or culture. But the left among us would reduce that mountain of opportunity and potential to a smoldering heap of what they consider is "appropriate".
