My prayers to all the good people who’s lives forever changed that day.
Everyone remembers where they were when they got the news. I was in the Army back then, about to leave for 30 days of lockdown otherwise known As Primary Leadership Development Course, a prerequisite for making Sergeant. I came back from the local Walmart and turned the TV on just in time to see the South Tower collapse. That was an image that was seared in my memory forever. I will NEVER forget.

Off Topic: Regarding the election and The Fair Tax Act for Illinois get word out to your family to vote against this sham. It's touted as a way to tax the rich and save working families money. I've read the legislation and it's false. Right now we stand at 4.95% flat income tax. The proposed legislation will only raise taxes for earners of 250000 or more upwards to almost 8%. That's all fine and dandy but taxes don't realistically go down for everyone else. Anyone making under 10000 gets a gradual decrease to 4.7%, under a 100000 4.9%, 100000-250000 stays at 4.95% no decrease whatsoever. Now the juicy part which is being hidden. If this passes politicians would no longer have to have a referendum to have us vote on. They basically can decide whatever they want as far as what the income tax rate will be as long as it's within a ratio of top earners. If you dont think they'll raise that income tax as high as 8 or 9% on middle class then you're nuttier than squirrel turds. Unlike most of us the upper class have the means to leave, we don't. As people continue to flee the income tax will continue to increase to make up for the loss. GET THE WORD OUT TO FRIENDS, FAMILY AND VOTE NO ON THIS B.S. BILL. I think all of our lives changed that day, directly or indirectly. I recall exactly where I was that day and time, a forever memory ! Any of these protest/ riot groups care to try and tear down our monument of the lost first responders on that day? A terrible day. I think of the tragic choice that was forced upon so many people-to burn up in the buildings or to jump. I think of the 40 people on Flight 093 that died taking back that plane so that others would be saved. I think of all of the NYPD Officers and NYFD Firefighters and Paramedics who sacrificed themselves while saving others.
I think of that day frequently, not just on 9/11, and the American Flag flies on my home today in remembrance of all who died on that day.

I have one other gal (who’s retiring this year) who agreed with me. I was told it’s optional. If you insist on being a dinosaur go ahead, was the message I heard today. Wheeling.
I was napping and got a call from my then fiancé. Turned on the tv in horror. I immediately went to Kohl’s and started buying stuff to head to NY. Jumped on a west side Reverends donated bus and went to Manhattan along with about 30 other CPD. Passed security and was sent to law enforcement command post for assignment. We went up the damaged buildings looking for evidence and or remains. Stairwells were in a way where CPD went up to certain floors and on the other side NYPD were going to their assigned floors. Had to stop and think about the craziness of something so tragic and enormous that NYPD and CPD would be searching a building together. We will never forget our brothers and sister who gave all that day.
I was working night shift and was sleeping at home. Kids were at school, my wife was working at the hospital. She called the house to wake me up, something she never did. She said that I better turn on the TV. It was surreal, I will never forget. I think that is the first time that large amounts of people thanked me for being a cop. People were scared and thankful that someone was out there protecting them.

I’m actually quite fearful about what this country will look like in my 60’s. I may be wishing for an early death at that age.
I don’t have kids. Do they even teach what happened on 9/11 in Chicago Public Schools? Is it even acknowledged in years past when they have been in school? Any online lessons, required reading about it this year? Do Catholic or private schools discuss it?
The days leading up to 9/11 were the last normal days I remember in America. Much of my life personally did not change on that day, but the details did. Some for the better, but most for the worst.
I remember everyone coming together, just like in other times of war or great distress. Color didn't matter. Politics didn't matter. We were a united nation.
Then there were the freedoms we lost, the paranoia, the metal detectors and sign-ins that weren't required previously. Politics got really nasty and divisive. Now we have psychos masquerading as leftists, "systemic racism", and the cancel culture which invalidates anyone who has a Heritage America outlook.
The biggest problem is that now we have people on one side who want Liberty for ALL, including those who disagree with them, and the people on the other side who want control over everything, including what we're allowed to think.
God bless America, and may we someday return to peace, liberty, and freedom.

I remember 9-11-01 like it was ... yesterday.
All of my political, moral, intellectual beliefs are clearly reinforce by the real events of 9-11-01.
It's the ultimate "us" vs "them" with "they" coming in to our country, our society and working to slaughter us - which they did.
Our political, cultural, educational, business and media officials/leaders have to answer to us on how they stood/stand on 9-11-01.
Are they going to let this slaughter of our people in our country happen again and again and again?
Or will they make excuses, try to change the subject or worse use their monopoly on political and media power to spin 9/11/01 in to something God awful like another war against secular Arabs in Iraq, Syria - that's those Neo Conservatives bastards.
9-11-01 is clay absolute proof that we need strict immigration laws, practices - Israel and Japan would never even consider letting the likes of Mohammed Ata in to their countries on student visas to attend flight school, why should we, why did we do that?

Hello SCC, I have been reading your blog for years. I'm not a cop, but I appreciate how hard your job is and don't think I could handle it.
I worked in NYC for 25 years. I was in WTC#2 (South Tower) for 5 years 95-00. On Sept 11th, I was at a new job 1 click away 125 Broad St looking out the window. I saw Smoke and Flames and Little Tiny Bodies coming out of Tower 1. Then United airlines Flight 175 flew right in front of me and hit the desk in the building where I used to work. Almost blew out the windows we were looking through. Left a huge Plane shaped hole in the south side of the building. Killed 6 people I knew. Sometimes late at night when I'm alone I still cry, and I'm too old for that.
If all of you Chicago cops were to quit tomorrow, I would not blame you a bit. I respect you
no matter what, but I am amazed that you keep fighting the good fight. Good Luck.

To the poster at 625pm, a lot of us have been in crazy situations, amazing how your life is carved out Huh? As you know, as I do, when you have a very mind blowing experience that involves life and death, you tend to look at things differently. We saw, and now we stand as a sort of Color Guard to protect the memory. It is right and proper that we never get too old to feel, to remember - in the silence, to know.

On behalf of myself and all of my brothers and sisters in blue, thank you.I worked for United Airlines at the time, 1st class and remember getting dressed to leave for work and watching it live as "breaking news" seeing the destruction and bodies jumping out as the second plane hit live and the images strewn across the screen. It's still stops you in disbelief to remember the emptiness that's still so raw . As if a void in time, space and emotion- how could this happen? What kind of animal? Let's never forget and hopefully never let this happen again. R.I.P. all who lost their live that day and in the time that followed
