Power Test Not Scheduled?

The Annual Power Test is one of those things hammered out in negotiations. It provides an incentive for coppers to get and stay in shape, thereby reducing health costs overall. It is contained in a Memoranda of Understanding in the Police Contract on Pages 99 and 100.

We haven't seen any efforts to conduct this Contractually obligated incentive, though we've seen a rumor that it's going to be held virtually and everyone passes this year.

Actually, we just made up that rumor, but it still seems that Groot is determined to violate each and every section of the Contract by the time she hits the midpoint of her failed term of office.

OT but did you read about the current Dallas, Tx police chief turning in her papers. One article states she’s had quite a mess to deal with, stuff that shoulda been addressed in prior years. Who’da thunk it? Imagine that shit.

I just can’t believe the previous chief would’ve left the department in a mess. I hear he was hired by one of the nations largest police departments. Maybe that outgoing chief can come help groot straighten out CPD.

Keep your head on a swivel and take care of number ONE. If you’re tired or burned out, you know what needs to be done..

I’m sure they’ll say it’s because of COVID. What they should do is give people credit who have completed the test the last 3 or 5 consecutive years. Give the cops the extra bonus if they have shown a consistent effort to stay in shape.

RO is willing, ready and able to pass the power test.
If the CPD does not administer the test, I demand the money for passing said test,
as described in my four year old contract.

Everyone should demand to be power tested.

That test is non-sense anyways. It’s administered by ego maniacs assigned to teach “physical fitness”, who have been scamming the city and tax payers for YEARS. The extremely unqualified gym staff at the academy literally cheer for REAL coppers to fail the power test. It’s a known fact and an inside joke between them. These “instructors” have been at the academy for well over 3/4 of their career. Their a joke and EVERYONE knows exactly who they are. It’s pathetic that brand new recruits are laughing behind the backs of these useless twits. BUT, it only happens in Chicago. Things will never change in this fake ass, beyond corrupt city.

—————————————————————-

The flaw is the spine-wrecking sit up posture that ends up being more of a test of your hip flexors. There is nothing wrong with using a 1.5 mile run as a measure of cardiac fitness. I know “we don’t run 1.5 miles.” But as we’ve seen on video, we do sometimes wrestle with assailants for 3 minutes in full gear on a subway platform, get our asses handed to us, and then shoot them in the back while they are fleeing up a stairwell toward sidewalk traffic. “Running” 1.5 miles at a pace hardly more than a jog if you’re over 27 years old provides some indicator as to whether you’ll have the wind to win that fight.

And there is nothing wrong with using a body weight % bench press as a measure of upper body strength, so long as it’s not on the shoulder-pinning machine. And flexibility is good for everyone to prevent injury, so a sit and reach shouldn’t be an issue.

How about making the standards the same for women as men? That’s what should be re-evaluated. Or are they only expected to fight weaker offenders more their size and strength? I know, I’m so sexist.

Power test: How long can y’all be Ordered to work 12 hour Tours with Cancelled Days Off...?
And StayAtHome teachers (some, not all) demands hazard pay if flip-flop Bipolar Larri changes her slight mind.

The Annual PT money was already budgeted, how Larri will spend it is another story.
Look at the savings for shutting down the Academy for as long as they did. If the Dept fails to offer the PT during this challenging time, this year...will the award next season be doubled? Will all those who signed up not be required to show up but given a Participation Award anyway? Some desk jockey gold star already hammered out how to reappropriate the budget. Covid’s will end on or shortly after November 3rd. And the PT will resume.

A too easily manipulated Contract...
If DUTY AVAILABILITY compensated House Mice are not being utilized for street duty with these manpower shortages while others are being deployed on their rdo’s for continual extended tours...then that’s mismanagement which is deemed a Contract loophole.

Its no surprise that Larri’s Team is working overtime to subvert our Contract, this was seen under ShortShanks and Rahm. It what’s happens when We as a whole, have no political action power. We don’t ever vote more than 50% in our own elections. Representatively we might only be worth 15,000 - 20,000 household votes in city/county elections. This needs to change. Dems follow and rely heavily on statistics and polls like its a superstition.
The job action, no strike clause has us always on the ropes and in the corner.

Plenty of women can run 1.5 miles faster than some men.

But according to the "Power" test, a woman in her 20s only has to be as fit as a man in his 50s.....The Power Test's standards for running and situps are the about the same for a woman in her 20s as it is for a man in his 50s. It sounds like both age and gender discrimination.

Do they think criminals care about the age and gender of the officer they choose to fight with? Or that the criminal will stop when the officer shouts "Stop Play! Stop Play!"

Fights with offenders are real. You should be in shape for them, and standards should be the same.

Men and women get the same pay nowadays. Why can't they have the same standards for both?

Really? What events would you change to update it? The test is laughably easy yet I’ve watched many still fail on situps, 1.5 mile and even the sit and reach. It’s so bad that they let people who fail come back a few days later and redo the event they failed. Another slipping standard in the department that guarantees sub par applicants.

The test is meant to test ones cardio fitness, and back strength, flexibility, etc. Because Poli e officers were having injuries, heart attacks, etc. Some experts thought this would be a good way to prevent that by wedding out individuals who could not pass. No one cares if you catch or wrestle with an offender. Have you ever heard a boss in roll call tell you to make more arrests? I never have. As for upper body strength, men and women are different, also usually see, see lungs, shorter legs, etc. And this test was formulated by measuring individuals who were fit. The test does need to be updated, and training improved. Another thing problem is that we sit most of the day.

For the unlucky mid-nights coppers stuck on some late DUI arrest their tour ended at 1100 hrs they were ordered to report back at NOON30 the same day. Thanks for your input. I can only respond to the parts that were written in English.

- No, I have never heard a boss tell me to make more arrests. That has no bearing on whether you should be in shape to fight. Sometimes, the fight comes to you. Sometimes, the fight is unavoidable. Try to have some sense. If some shitbird on PCP grabs you or your partner while you’re playing Officer Friendly with some kids at a park, you’ll find out real fast whether maybe you should have retained some modicum of fitness.
- Thank you for verifying that men and women are different. It is those very physiological differences that attracts me to women and not men. You must have aced biology class. On the other hand, it appears you were either blind drunk when you posted or you failed 3rd grade English.

Another poster said it perfectly; women get equal pay. Start performing equally. I don’t need a lightweight liberal princess trying to save my 230 lb ass (and I can still pass the power test at the 22 year old standard at exactly twice that age) against an ex-con who has spent the last 6 years hitting the weights in prison. Let’s be real about things.
