I Worked my RDO this past weekend and had my post on rush street, you would not believe how many people thanked us for our service. People appreciated our presence and even gave us water & snacks to show their support. All the people agreed that lightfoot ruined the city and will be a 1 term mayor. 1 liberal woman said she thought it was about time Chicago had a female mayor & what a mistake she was and won't make the same mistake again with lightfoot. Few people said they were riding out their lease then moving to Texas or Florida, but everybody loved the Chicago police

This has been going on, openly, for decades. I recall one Deputy Superintendent that had so many sexual harassment complaints against him it was a running joke. He retired and went to another high level county job. What has made this even worse is the fact these gold stars can put their paramours in for promotions with this phony merit system.

Also, you can pass on a promotion if you choose.
I slipped through the the cracks and spent seventeen years as a Sgt with no calls.
I remember standing in line to take Lts exam and saying the same thing you did... No clout, no phone call etc... Why bother?
The guy in front of us turned around and said "I'll tell you why you take it. Because on your way home today, you may come across a rollover crash and you may save someone's life by the name of Daley. THAT is why you take it".
It's a gamble but you never know...

I love all the people who say they would never be a sgt. To that I say you guys are absolute morons. I was a detective before I became a sgt and I did not want to take sgt. This is the easiest job I can imagine. These new kids have no clue how to scam and are pretty much paper pushing nerds who will bust out a report in two minutes and clear to the next job. Nobody on the watch with these kids gets a beef and they are polite to everyone on camera so any calls for supervisors are simple. After Van Dyke TRRS are now simple at the sgt level and pursuits don’t exist anymore. Reports are one click either reject or approve. You drive around and log your cars and mind your own business. It’s a simple and relaxing job. No more BS jobs or anything and everyone leaves you alone if you leave them alone. So far the best job I’ve had in this department and I loved being a detective. I don’t want a tact team or gang team or anything else, a sgt on the watch is the way to go and I’ll be more than happy to retire in this spot.
Just an update to Did Her Life Matter?
Momma’s boyfriend arrested for Murder......was babysitting the child at his mothers house
from 6 pm to midnight when she “stopped breathing”......called baby’s mother to come there, then he fled.....
And in answer to the question.......I guess it didn’t.

Self preservation is in order these days. I haven’t had to sign a tow case in months but I also make sure to advise my officers to lay low. $130K a year to respond on domestic and advise both parties they are wrong and my officers are right. Then early checkoff and that’s it. FU Groot!

Somebody please tell mills to stfu. Please. He has no idea what he;s talking about or how to run an investigative unit.He'll get somebody jammed up because there's only 2 or 3 sergeants in that building who have a clue. The rest will listen to him and it won't be good.
Being a Sgt sucks if your working in a busy district. If you get a tact team or unit, it's cake.
Two year wonders aren't banging out case reports in two minutes like some fool said above. They are completely clueless, typical case report is 1 hour, arrest's are 4 hours minimum. TRR's are a tour. If you don't show to their jobs they will fuck it up,blow off shit they shouldn't, or take an hour at a domestic because they do not want to arrest somebody. And if you show up they sit there with there hands holding their pee pee waiting for daddy to tell them what to do. They are afraid to make notifications because some surly fuck at the area will give them a hard time(usually because the caller is a retard).
Crime scenes are a complete free for all, they won't tell anyone to get the fuck out and Joe will walk right past them and the tape unless you sit there and ask them why the fuck someone is walking through their crime scene. Once again you are playing daddy.
If they get detailed to one of these PPO units they will come back thinking they are awesome and fuck shit up even more.
All that being said, the pay raise is awesome and you can be a mule if that's your thing, you'll be on the watch you seniority dictates but you should be used to that.
If some of the above shit will bother you expect to be frustrated but that will fade with time. The pay and being treated like an adult, if your willing to be one, evens it out.
