South Shore Shooting?
Word trickling in that an Officer, leaving training at the South Shore location, had his headrest save him some major damage one or two nights ago.
No one seems to be able to answer if it was a stray round or a targeted attempt on an Officer's life. In light of recent threats and recent assassination attempts, this should be answered immediately.
And a better method of training locations figured out.

Glad all is well if this is the case. And don’t worry, the department has made it clear that when you go to training at the south shore location, you are not to share the parking lot with any of the staff there (not that there’s any parking). They also made it clear that damn near every surrounding street is not to be parked on. So you can’t use the lot, you can’t park on almost any surrounding street, there’s minimal to no parking anywhere, but this is where we decide we are going to send officers for training in some shit ass area. So now we have coppers, and everyone knows who we are and now what our cars look like, parking on the street away from the facility. Great job CPD, god forbid you get a location that has any kind of parking at all. In the ghetto with no where to safely park, outstanding.
It was bound to happen. It was just a matter of not if but when something would happen on the way to these bullshit training locations or back. Thank God the officer is OK and bigger thanks that he did not have a love one on the passenger's side.
Civilian here, I have a question regarding how upon graduation from the academy, where are new recruits placed (districts), are they mentored with veteran officers, and are police officers tenured like teachers (5 year period). If you work in a high crime district, do you get paid more, like hazard pay? Are you required in your rookie contract to pay your dues in high crime areas and if and when you do your tour of duty, can you request to be moved to a better district? When you work these areas for a few years, is this something that will benefit you in the long run and help you to move up the ranks in the future?
As a civilian, this blog has really informed me about policing and has shattered my police show version of law and order. I always direct my friends when they really want to know what is happening in Chicago to turn to this blog so I greatly appreciate all the officers sharing their insight. I could have googled the answers to these questions but I am seeking the truth, not the illusion of policing.
Stay safe officers, things will improve, God is on your side, and I know deep in your hearts this is the profession you care deeply about and these obstacles will be removed, it's going to take time, common sense, and for the general public to back you when politicians work against you.

When they mean cutting education reimbursements, what does that mean? Any classes you take, do Police get paid like teachers - example. Masters degree + 10 years on the job = x amount of money. Taking classes improve your salary, correct?

This building is a BAD location for any training. The building is NOT centralized in location in the City of Chicago.
It seems likely that any training location is going to have the same potential problem of a target rich environment for hunters of police. I am not sure moving to a new location is going to solve that problem.
Police stations are another location where there are a lot of cops. If someone wanted to engage in a war on cops, they could find a bunch of them in police stations.
Remember that the Democrats "egged on" these attacks on police. It started with Obama and has escalated with Kamala Harris and others of that ilk.

Tuition reimbursement means just that. If we take college courses we can get reimbursed for the tuition we paid the university. Amount reimbursed depends on the grade received. Taking classes does not increase your pay in any way. Degrees are required to be promoted to Sgt Lt etc.

Am I the only person who thinks a self-driving car is a really stupid idea?!!!! If you want to just sit there and not drive, TAKE THE BUS!! I can’t wait to see a self-driving car has a computer glitch and ends up plowing into a crowd, killing a bushel of people. Maybe that’s what it’ll take before they re-think that idea.
We have how many empty High Schools sitting on the NW, SW & Midway areas (all with plenty of parking) where the vast majority of police live and they can it possibly use one of those facilities?

Schedule training by area/district. Send the “trainers” to a north/south/west side district and only assign cops from that area to attend that training by district. Enough with the fuckwit trainers. 1st watch officers should not get scheduled for 8am classes or 4 pm classes. There should be midnight training for 1st watch officers during their shifts. We already don’t get shift differential, which is something every other department in the nation gets ( instead every officer gets duty availability even the fucking barbies working 9-5). This is ludicrous and beyond unfair. And why drive to the shithole south side at 108th street? Just ludicrous.

True Story/ Near Tomahawk, WI/ Deer Season, 1998. Sitting in my car, parked at a gas station, having a coffee and a muffin. Driver’s Rear side window explodes along with Passenger side headrest and Passenger Front side window. No injury. Projectile never recovered. Could have been a Negligent Discharge a half mile away!
