Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s deputy mayor for public safety is resigning just days after delivering a report outlining City Hall’s strategy to tamp down runaway violence, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times on Thursday.
Susan Lee, deputy mayor for public safety, was appointed in June 2019. She previously was an executive at the not-for-profit Safe Chicago Network at Creating Real Economic Destiny founded by former U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Laurene Powell Jobs, the philanthropist widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs.
Lee, a California native, was hired to shift Chicago away from a “law-enforcement driven solution” to gang violence but had drawn sharp criticism from aldermen, who wanted Lightfoot to fire her.
If we're understanding this, she's the main author of the "five pillars" strategy we poked fun at yesterday.
And in further developments, a commentator claims to have the full story of "Pillows" West's departure:
- The Real Story! Monday afternoon at 4:10pm West was summoned to Brown’s office. When she got there, Brown and Carter told her that because of some missed deadlines with the Consent Decree she could either retire or be demoted to Lieutenant. She was given to October 15th to decide. West unloaded on Carter and Brown so they said that the decision came directly from the mayor. West stormed out and immediately filed her retirement papers. The entire conversation took less than 5 minutes.
Carter is turning out to be quite the hatchet-man for Groot.

So Lightfoot hired a liberal social justice warrior to be the Deputy Mayor of Public Safety for the City of Chicago. Someone with no experience in law enforcement. Public safety is law enforcement. The first obligation that government has to its citizens is to provide for their safety and well being which is done by enforcement of laws that were enacted by the legislative branch. And those legislators were chosen by the citizens to speak for them.
Then you have the executive branch that enforces the laws. You would think that they would hire someone for the position of the Deputy Mayor of Public Safety that has some knowledge of law enforcement like being in, or having been in law enforcement. But not our now far left radical Democrats. They don’t want the same kind of public safety and law enforcement that you and I want. They are going to reimagine law enforcement in their new world order.
Putting that social justice warrior into that job with no experience is like hiring a hedge fund manager to be the electrical contractor on a new high rise or hiring a plumber to be an attorney.

Maybe and maybe not. Plenty of insiders have come and gone and I have yet to read " a inside exposure of department and city hall corruption and influence". Uncle Terry never said a word and he followed what others have done; keep your mouth shut and you will be taken care of. Funny, how so many of these former gold stars end up in other government jobs. Sometimes they also end up in private industry but most of them do not last long as private industry does not suffer fools very well. But, start a security company and get inside contracts, that always works.

Dear Katma (Karma?) Bitch, there is a reason for the multiple psych tests. This profession gives you a gun and a badge that comes with the responsibility to take life and liberty while enforcing the laws and protecting the rights, lives and liberties of others.
Karma ain't always Karma. I've experienced what could be perceived as Karma, but in reality, were open doors to new experiences and wonderful relationships. They've also turned out to be to get me to focus back on myself and get back on track of my life and goals and on occasion, confront monster's in other people's lives (there are a lot of assholes in this world).

The CDC has a chart which shows the excess deaths (national or by state) by week. It only goes back a few years but it does allow you to see how much greater the excess deaths from COVID have been compared to the bad flu season of a few years ago. Once COVID became endemic, most of the excess deaths attributed to it were probably unavoidable. I understand that all political decisions have both intended and unintended consequences and that sometimes we have to make decisions which attempt to minimize harm, knowing full well that the decision will have some negative consequences. If it were required that the decedents who tested positive also displayed symptoms of covid, the death statistics would decline precipitously.
But it is to the advantage of Democrats to advertise the virus' lethality because it instills the fear that a positive virus test is equivalent to a death sentence. Therefore we must do everything to prevent the spread of the virus: closings, lockdowns, and every kind of government intervention. The idea is to make the people of America even more dependent on their government. When the virus subsides, the meme intended is that the actions of government were responsible. If there is a second wave, even more will be required.
Scott Atlas is absolutely right. Joe Biden implies that 7 million Americans have contracted the virus. Although 7 millions have tested positive, the actual number who have had the virus must be much higher, perhaps many times higher. If so, the lethality meme becomes less plausible. But Joe Biden is intent on stopping the spread. When he looks into the camera and says "I will protect you," I I don't know whether to laugh or wince.

901am I've done an in basket. It's the portion a department has the most discretion on because it has to be tailored to their policies. From my experience if you want to rob somebody during the process that's the greatest place.
The missed deadlines point to the incompetence of West thus fulfilling the prediction that she was over promoted beyond police officer. Now she get the gold star retirement figure, undeservedly sucking the pension dry.

This story about West makes a lot of sense since the media is hitting the fact that many deadlines have been missed. You also have to look at the fact that she's 53, not 55, so she is not eligible for the medical. Unless someone had a great job lined up that included insurance, I would think their leaving would not really be voluntary. And there was nothing reported about her going into private industry.

Exempt are not eligible for the 55 and above medical insurance deal. They have to drop their exempt rank and return to Lt or Capt rank for 30 days to be eligible.
For Babs West it don't matter, she can afford to pay for health insurance on her undeserved pension.

Actually..............the command staff has a "handshake agreement" from the Daley era that they will be provided medical upon retirement. The reason they drop back down is they are then automatically protected under their respective collective bargaining agreement and that benefit cannot be diminished. It is for their own protection.
