Avoidable Shortage

Typical incompetency by the CPD administration:

  • A friend tested positive for Covid and was given 26 NOV as his return to work date. When he called the medical section last week (after a total of 19 attempts since they stopped answering the phone the week before), he was told he wouldn’t be able to return til 30 NOV “because of the holiday”. So does that mean the medical section will be closed thurs thru sun, during a manpower shortage because of a pandemic? What?

Another friend had to call the medical section 32 times before someone down there answered the phone last Monday, his 14th day of being off after testing positive. Medical section told him to just return to work on his next working day after the two week period. Ummm mostly any and every other employer require two negative tests to return to work and you can’t show ANY symptoms. The medical section and CPD apparently couldn’t care less if people are returning to work still sick, which will just continue this cycle.

This has been hinted at and complained about in the comment section for a week or more now. Everywhere is short, but part of it is a failure to release healthy people back to work. The other part appears to be bypassing protocols so infected people don't return to work, and this further exacerbates the most recent outbreak.

The medical section told me to return to work after 14 regardless if my second test came back positive. According to my nurse there are first responders guidelines that state that inspire of being positive you can return to work as long as there are no symptoms. Has anyone received the same answer?

And we are worried about returning to work from COVID-19 wow take as much time as you need and if the medical section gives you a date to return back just enjoy the time off and continue to take care of “you”.

We’ve got multiple people on our watch that actually want to come back to work because there’s so much OT being offered because there is no manpower at all on the watch anymore. They are being told they can’t come back for a myriad of reasons. One until they see a doctor and the doctor says it’s ok, even after over two weeks off and haven’t had symptoms in over a week. Others can’t get through at all to the medical section so they gave up and are just staying on the medical until they hear from the medical. Another was told they need to bring a negative test in showing they don’t have it anymore, after over three weeks on the medical because they keep going round and round with the medical section. Fuck is it a nightmare dealing with them. Whoever is running the show down there needs to be thrown out to midnight in 003 or something. It’s a pandemic and at a time when we need our medical section the most it is totally failing us. Total shit show down there.

When you test positive it’s a minimum of 14 days away. It’s the CDC NIH etc guidelines. Lightfoot has been saying it’s 14 days even if you’re not positive but were exposed. There’s electronic billboards saying 14 days for just traveling to a Covid state(whatever that means)even if you never saw a single person. However, I’m recovering from Covid now and still sick and it’s been 16 days. Still have a cough. So everyone is different but rushing people back to work is only going to continue the problem the department created by packing cops on busses.

Too many people are faking illness just to try and get free time off. They say they have symptoms and take 14 days off and come back with a negative test. Of course the medical section is overwhelmed, they put a bunch of do nothing dollies down there and a bigger group of useless pieces of shit are faking illness just to be bigger dogs. The guys who are really sick are the ones getting the run around. Pathetic!

I called to go on the medical.
I finally got ahold of someone in person, and was specifically told “ok well you are on the medical now. Someone will call you tomorrow with further instructions.” It didn’t sound right, so I said “ok, so someone will call me tomorrow for sure, right?” The woman on the phone said “well, I mean you know we are busy down here, but someone will call you tomorrow.”

Well, surprisingly no one called me.
I called a few times to no avail, but I wasn’t concerned.
I just walked in there 2 weeks later and said I needed to go clear.

The last time I was on the medical, they asked me to email records over to them.
I continuously called trying to follow up, with no luck.
Then my “case worker” called me and was being very aggressive towards me on the phone, about how I’m not following orders and I’m subject to take days, and she’s recommending me for punishment.
I told her that I emailed my records as instructed. I could just HEAR her long fingernails clicking the keys over the phone, and then she said “Oh. Yeah I see that right here.” I said “no worries, apology accepted.”

If we can’t take care of our own, we can’t take care of anything.

I'm not sure if you know this. COVID is a workers comp case. If you test positive, contact a good lawyer. Even if you think you did not contract it at work. From my understanding COVID is presumed to be a work related issue. The employer needs to prove otherwise. I am not a lawyer just a retired union Firefighter that was injured on the job, and a couple of job related injuries after retirement.

Is it only the CPD that’s not bound by doctors AllWaddly and eZeekie’s science and metrics health guidelines? Hushed Browns gives the orders that he receives from angry quack Larri LightFührer about how 14 days is enough for any Covid’s + quarantine. No exceptions. City Hall closed since March and part-time Larri is doing 3 hrs days twice a week dictating and croaking orders from behind a computer monitor. Don’t rush back from the medical.

Getting Med Sect to answer phones (see phone courtesy procedures in your Orders or Sgt exam study guide) is one thing, they could be just as swamped, but if you just show up and there’s nobody there, even if it’s rdo, holiday, etc, they likely too are getting poorly managed as well. Don’t take being scolded or not being officially released, it’s still documentable by calling your Unit (UOA) before leaving home and before leaving MSS-231...if that’s what one wants to do. I wouldn’t trust Hushed Brown (who’s willing to throw anyone under the bus) if there’s a medical roll infraction to save his job.

If the Dept was interested in healthy bodies to backfill those on the Medical they would utilize house mice being carried and compensated with Duty Availability.
Field and Beat patrol need a break, if the Covid’s didn’t find you maybe bunions, migraines and high blood pressure will.
Stay Safe, Stay Fetal or Stay Home.

In case you don't know it electronic phone systems have pretty straightforward ways of forwarding calls to people who are working at home. If they are working at home, that is probably not the reason why the phones are not being answered. It's almost certainly because there are more calls than people to answer them.

The Medical Section is just another example of dazed and confused people stumbling along failing the rank and file. The Dallas Dummy is in hiding as he watches his hopes and dreams of successfully administering a large major Police Department crumble before his eyes. You are not in same league as Charlie Beck.
