Where were the Mental Health Responders???
- A Chicago police officer was stabbed while responding to a mental health disturbance.
Police said the incident happened around 11:15 p.m. Thursday at 91st and Burley in the city’s South Chicago neighborhood.
When officers arrived to the scene, a 26-year-old man was damaging the apartment unit he lives in with his family. Police said the man began throwing objects at them outside, and then ran towards the officers with two knives.
According to police, the man was Tased and when officers attempted to arrest him, he stabbed one of them in the stomach
As we and dozens of others have stated here, knives are deadly weapons, and there isn't a Use of Force model that requires Officers to confront Deadly Force with less-than-lethal munitions. Our lives matter. It's written into Law and General Orders and backed by Case Law and Court Precedents.
And as demonstrated here, the situation escalated so rapidly that there wasn't a chance to transition from Taser-to-Gun, and an Officer was stabbed in the gut. A sergeant nearly lost her life earlier this autumn. Hopefully, this isn't a training shortfall that will cost some Officer his/her life.

Well an officer went to jail over this, Kenosha burned to the ground & there are demonstrations and looting when the guy has a gun let alone a knife. We had all the case law in the world and van dyke rots. The world is telling you to die.
A training shortfall? I'm no fan of of our training nor the staff which thinks they are trainers, but you are taught in every use of force class you've ever attended that a knife is deadly force. These officers hesitated because of the political/social climate. Our training sucks, but I doubt the Officers didn't shoot because they didn't know they had a right to.
Speedy recovery officers. Next time just shoot the knife out of his hand or shoot him in the leg but below the knee so you don't accidentally hit an artery. Our new president, who cheated to win, will require leg shots by law

The Use of Force Model is secondary to what the State's Attorney, COPA or Media will perceive in assessing a Use of Deadly Force. It would be interesting to know how much time the victim officer had on the job, and how he was stabbed. I really am reluctant to say this; but I fear that some officers, especially those who joined to be part of the "Change", may be reluctant to use Any Force for fear of how it will appear or be interpreted. Everyone knows, that officers are taking time for failing to check a box regarding heated encounters where they may have thrown what appears to be a punch or kick, in the body cam review by COPA. One officer who was short in stature held up a taller subject who was falling on her with a knee. Because of the difference in height, she had to use her knee to prop the subject up. COPA wanted to give the Officer 5 days because they claimed she used a knee strike to the subject and failed to check that box on the report! The Public has been misled, to believe that a Baseball Bat, Car or knife mean that someone is still "Unarmed". Perception becomes its own reality, so the cop using a firearm is always wrong. Baby "G"

I was at a gun store yesterday and noticed that they are selling a paintball gun that shoots some type of pepper round. It looks exactly like a large semiauto pistol but shoots a large paintball. Concealing it would be impossible. The clueless salesman tried to tell me it would be good for fighting off a guy with a knife. Why the hell would you carry something that looks like a gun, but isn't a real gun? It is almost guaranteed to go bad on you. Even if you shot the damn thing down his throat and followed up with a few in the eyes, more than likely, he would still stab you.

Iy is a training, as well as a perception downfall. In today's climate the accepted wisdom caused by social justice reform is that tasers are used against knife wielding offenders. I have been retired over 20 years and way back I still remember a training film showing an officer standing with his weapon holstered, 20 feet away was a man with a knife. On signal the knife armed person attacked the officer and the officer began to draw his weapon. We all know how that ended, the guy with the knife was all over the officer before his gun cleared the holster. These libtard assholes should all view that film.
If the mental has a knife, turn around and leave, grab a quick lunch, go back and maybe his fambly will have him under control by then.

Mental Health responders will be dispatched to the scene before the police are sent. Police should not be dispatched until notified by mental health responders. Upon being notified, prior to dispatching officers, the dispatcher will send medical response personnel to assist of the mental health responders. The Medical Examiner's office will be notified from dispatch of possible homicide scene involving the death or serious injury to the mental health responders. The officers will then be dispatched to the call for service. If the emotionally disturbed subject is resisting or combative, medical examiners office will not remove the bodies of the mental health responders until a more prurient time as determined by on scene supervisor. Medical care to the mental health responders will be administered pending approval of distressed subject who injured/ killed same. If subject is combative, officers will be ordered to leave scene by on scene supervisor until subject wishes to cooperate.

If he would have killed the officer, no protests/riots/looting, so all is well in the minds of the democratic city leaders. Exactly, and it doesn’t take any cop very long to learn that the very same family members calling the police because they fear their crazy ass relative, almost always start defending their crazy ass relative when things go south with the police. I’ve experienced it on the job and seen my own goofy family do it.

Best piece of info this department ever gave me during training. It's cheaper for the city to host a line of duty death funeral, than it is to pay out for a police involved shooting.
I've seen a few YouTube vids where an officer was responding to a man-with-a-knife call with taser in hand. I call that "suicide by perp", don't do it. If your department makes you do that, find another job.
