A Visual Representation

So when a District is down 50% manpower, this is what it looks like when two jobs come out:

Two jobs, and the District is left with two cars covering all the District.

That's a safety issue if nothing else, especially considering the size of 017.

Yup, just like I remember, no help, not ever. Can you imagine there was a shooting. They'd have to get 025 to handle the south end and 020 to handle the north end with E.R. assisting on the west end.

I’ve got to blame the leadership of that district for letting the manpower get that dangerously low. There has to be something they can do. Speak up for your people for Pete’s sake. Don’t worry, the community safety team has over a 1000 officers that could help out up in 017, but alas they only work a couple hours a day shuffling around the west side getting blue cards. It’s not like they’re needed to fill beat cars or anything.

more of a chance of a traffic crash when responding from a long distance.

This is what Lightfoot wanted. Defund and demoralize the police. Chicago’s going to have one hell of a recruiting problem very soon. Massive resignations and retirements and zero interest in law enforcement. All other departments are using lateral transfers to attract trained officers, save money, and keep up with attrition. What’s Chicago going to do? Working for Lightfoot isn’t very appealing for young kids. No contract 4 years and forced residency too. All the surrounding departments don’t force residency and are actually nice to their police officers. Unfortunately the aldermen are weak.

I also retired out of 017. Going back 10 yrs, 017 was not as slow as it's reputation would have you believe. There were few bosses that passed through that had any stones. More often than not the sheets were low on all three watches. It was a regular practice on 1st & 2nd watch that the station was maned by one person and that person was often a blue shirt. The radio room in 017 is upstairs, so that left the desk with no BODY if the po went upstairs or
went to the head, and yes that po signed all the paper work.
When I first got on, 011, an old timer suggested keeping a copy of the sheets, " there is going to be a lawsuit someday with all the bs put on the sheets". After seeing for myself the bs, I started keeping copies. The only thing I ended up with was a pile of paper. That old saying that every dog gets his day, that to is bs.

Take it up with the chief of patrol and the superintendent.

Wait until Jan 16th, we will be 2,023 officers shorter on that day due to retirements. This is the single largest retirement in CPD history. You not only have the guys with the 30 years but now the numbers leaving in the 100’s are down to 10 years. I work at the Jive-ory Tower and it’s chaos. Brown is disinterested because he’s gone soon back to Texas and Carter is just to stupid to understand. At least the young kids trapped in patrol are exploring massive lateral moves or just leaving for the private sector. We could conceivably have manpower dwindle under 5,000 and no help in sight. Another summer like last year the whole city could burn.

Looks like 1712, 22, 23 all came up and available from other tasks and duties perhaps backing up 32 & 33’s in progress (?) as one way to beat some overnight idling is to respond all over the District. Hopefully 1712 wasn’t to far away to respond to their ALBR nearby and was a 10-4 unit.

Whatever the case, citizens expect some sort of protection and everyone is entitled to the fundamental right of a civil and safe society. KmmFxxxUp and the idiot judges keep letting felons go to repeat their crimes over and over again. Property crimes are even easier on the feral than the armed violence prosecutions. Most recently the compliant mask wearing 39th Ward voted slightly in favor of Pat O’Brien over KmmFxxxUp 2020, they probably retained all the judiciary on the same Nov ballot that voted heavily in favor of SleepyJoe & Kameltoe over DJT.
So, if the citizen taxpayers are voting YES for an absentee mayor, a termite States Atty, a powderpuff nougat compliant alderman, then 5 available Units to “cover” for the 017 DC is plenty...plenty to lay low and let the feral go about they’bidness.

Stay safe, respond safely and work smart.
Keep lockups empty as an FOP contract negotiations table.

They should close 20--roll it into 017--then re-reconfigure all the detective areas, randomly appoint a couple of deputy chiefs to new made up positions and snatch up folks with under two years for a variety of inside spots (hq, fro, suds rooms, academy--so many places hide full duty sworn)

017 has been short for a long time. Every commander that has passed thru that place in the past 10 years has tried to get more manpower. Staples had some success but it still was not enough. The onus right now is keeping the homicides below 2016's magic number and making sure that another loot-a-thon doesn't happen downtown. As you can see by looking at the unit summary they don't give a fuck. Officer safety, don't put yourself into a situation you can't get out of.

It wouldn’t matter if brown or Carter did care about the mass exodus out of CPD. Employment/Manpower is all done by the mayor’s office. CPD has zero to do with hiring. City Hall better do something quickly to attract people to the job or they won’t be able to come back from the hiring crisis. Forced residency and no contract are the killers for recruiting.
