The big push for "span of control" where a sergeant could only supervise ten officers at a time? This would provide more direct supervision so Officers wouldn't be doing naughty things and supervision could more easily direct missions, strategies and emerging crime trends.
So how is this allowed? (we cropped out the extraneous information):
Murder Central....a Desk Sergeant....and zero field supervision. What exactly are the officers supposed to do if they need a sergeant to sign a tow? Advise them through a particularly sticky domestic? Handle a squad car accident? Run a homicide scene?
It doesn't get better:
The very next day....a Desk Sergeant....and the one field supervisor working is going downtown for the business sector detail. So once again, no one watching a District that has had ninety-five murders and three-or-four-hundred shootings.

No one realizes blue shirts can run this city if we want too, blue shirts are doing all the traffic stop, streets stops, signing up for units, overtime going above and beyond even when it is known you will get screwed if a call goes sideways. Just answer your calls. Nothing is ever going to change. The mayors office, citizens, CCSA is not going to wake up one day and have a change of hearts, screaming vote them out, is not going to do anything because people in this city/county have voted one way for years and years, not happening. Correct. And majority of Eastern European youngsters get certified through CPD then lateral out to Arlington Heights or other burbs. CPD will have a hard time keeping up with attrition. Plenty of days off cancelled. Great financial opportunity for do nothing units. Bad for watch answering calls 16 hours straight.

Was at wellness class today... Wasn't too bad and parts were actually informative. Just a bit perturbed by the f/1 Sgt who couldn't have been less professional when she came in to lay down the law about wearing masks and not bring able to sign in for class til 1330 hrs. I just took my time and did what I could, we all survived.
