I caught 30 unpaid days and a misdemeanor charge for pushing ove a political sign. Charges were dropped after the election but the judge told me that if I as much got a citation for traffic, he would teach me a lesson. Well, 30 unpaid days in 1982 was a pretty damned good lesson.
I feel for him but there’s a price to pay when you piss off the wrong asshole.

Isn't a banner placed on the public way considered litter? Removing litter is punishable by a 30 day suspension? We all know why this severe punishment was handed down, and it's all because of this perceived racism whenever someone speaks out against anyone who's against the police. The police are seen as some white supremacist organization, targeting and murdering innocent black men, despite the obvious and very public fact that a large percentage of police officers are non-white. But the truth doesn't matter when it comes to perceived racism. All that matters is that a white person did something that a non-white person disagreed with. This "infraction" deserved NO punishment, let alone an extreme suspension of 30 days for a first and only "infraction." I hope and believe he'll be able to appeal this in some way and be made whole. It's absolutely disgusting and ridiculous. This mistreatment of those who choose to serve their community, even in the face of hatred and violence from that community, is despicable. This bullshit narrative and the media and political support for it need to stop. I'm beginning to think that can't happen without some sort of uprising from the good citizens who still have functioning brains. I really don't see another way out of this nonsense at this point. Retired NYPD here. In our city, the FDNY guys sometimes take better care of us than our own department does. Many times they’ve backed us up. If you guys can, donate to them. This is definitely a worthy cause.

While in the Academy years ago...The CPD instructors ridiculed him for leaving the fire department... His father was the real police. So it’s understandable why he wanted to become a police officer. He was singled out of his class ... it wasn’t pleasant for him...He went back to the fire department for his own reasons and I can’t blame him. We have been challenged before with thwarting an increased crime rate, and we have successfully reduced it to historic lows. But this year we faced more than just an increase in violent crimes. We dealt not only with a pandemic but also with unprecedented civil unrest. Our Department handled these challenges with the utmost professionalism and dedication. Be as proud of yourselves as I am of you.
When the rest of the world isolated and quarantined to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, we were scheduled at times to work more, not less, in public venues with large crowds. I cannot remember a time in the past 25 years when the Department canceled more days off, scheduled more back-to-back shifts, or implemented more 12-hour days on a Department-wide scale. And with we did this 10-99, by ourselves, as our judicial partners (clerks, attorneys, judges, etc.) closed the courts.
At a time when the stay-at-home order means many of the general public have been spending even more time than usual with their families, I know I, like many of you, have spent even less time with my family. Not only have we been tasked with working an extraordinary number of hours but we also worry about catching the virus while working in public and spreading the virus to our families. Most of the general population even canceled their long-standing family gatherings for holidays and funerals because of the rising COVID-19 cases, yet every second of every minute of every hour of every day throughout the year of 2020, we were there to serve and protect the citizens and visitors of Chicago. Outstanding!
One of the many benefits of the Consent Decree is the requirement to improve in-service training for all members. As the Department attempts to maintain compliance by providing members with training, we continued to attend training at a record pace. While a Chicago public high school and a City of Chicago Community College were closed to their faculty, staff, and students because of the health concerns of COVID-19, we attended training at these facilities as well as at the Training Academy, participating in record numbers while practicing social distancing protocols. This task alone highlights the dedication and commitment of police officers and the training staff.
And although the Department proclaimed the training facilities safe, members of the Federal Monitoring team and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, who were meant to observe the mandated training, were no-shows. Our perseverance reveals the heart and soul of our Chicago Police Officers, distinguishing us from any other profession. Certainly, never let either of those two groups question your loyalty to serving and protecting the public.
Lastly, remember we are the Thin Blue Line that separates good from evil. We are the protectors of that line. It’s our responsibility to protect all. People count on us. Many of our brothers and sisters have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending the Thin Blue Line. Effective policing requires us to be prepared to step in to arrest criminals and prevent potential crime. We cannot control whether criminals are prosecuted or what bond they receive, but we can control our effort and attitude every day. Let’s always show the people of Chicago that we are the best Department in the world.

Always obtained illegal or very questionable orders in writing. Ask the boss for that order in writing. Exempts are protected.
First make sure the donations at least double his salary for 30 days. That should piss off the mayor.

I think the suspension is totally bogus but if you can't survive 30 days without a paycheck when you make $100k+ then something is wrong seriously on the job 20yrs too have nothing saved no emergency fund can't take a 30 day suspension financially don't do that to your family.
Please you have to force yourself to save it's hard I've been saving $250 a check in a aggressive growth fund in only 11yrs time its now worth over a $100K now if something happens to me I get jammed up suspended, fired or charged my family has a cushion some breathing room.

One answer would be she was released from prison in 2011. Trump might have been busy when he first took office and she was not in jail in 2016
