Has Evans been paying attention? No one is getting arrested, Crimesha is refusing to prosecute, Dart empties the jail every night, and even the cops aren't arresting people (or folks):
Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans wants to establish a new court branch for adults who are accused of criminal activity between the ages of 18 and 26, according to a column by Evans in the latest Illinois Supreme Court newsletter.
“The time has come for the establishment of a third branch of courts,” Evans writes, “a court that recognizes the intermediate stage of biological and social development between children and mature adults. The court would be known as ‘Young Adult Court.’”
Evans said his proposed court branch would “give specific consideration to the mental and physical characteristics of this age group.”
He should be talking about layoffs amongst the public defenders, states attorneys, jail guards and court personnel.

Damn! Now I know I missed out on a lot of “funnin”. I should have been developing socially and biologically between 18 and 26 years. My mistake was I was going to college, I had a full time job to pay for it. I also had two part time jobs when not going to school. Then at 24 I got on the job.
In the 1960s they had Boy’s Court for the ages of 17 to 20 yrs. and that was separate from Juvenile Court.

Perhaps a better idea would be to create a parent education program to teach life skills, responsibility, and consequences for breaking the law. When my kids were 18-26, they started then graduated from college, began their careers, and became successful, self- sufficient adults. The concept of education and responsibility were always front and center whether it involved school, sports, or a part- time job.

Most RESPONSIBLE parents have taught their children the difference between right and wrong by the age of 5. This is an asinine idea that should never see the light of day. So people are legally "adults" at age 18, can buy cigarettes, lottery tickets, enlist in the military to carry a gun, get married, sign a contract, buy a rifle/shotgun, go into debt with credit cards, buy property and live alone, but they're still not really adults and need to be treated differently from real adults.
This sounds like a bullshit nanny state do-over for the "chilluns" who were never parented properly and given real structure or discipline. They have non police counselors and defense attorneys on the same floor as the lock-up, detective offices, missing persons desk and where all the child abuse hotlines in the city got through. They are walking around and listening to the missing persons take notifications. They can see the child abuse hotlines. No privacy for victims anymore. And this is done with the blessing of the commander.

OT....raise a glass and toast an old friend to the police and all vets alike. Rene was the owner of the Shed Saloon on east 106th street and was a great guy to all who knew him. He was a Vietnam vet and the backbone of the MIA POW southeast side organization. He never forgot his roots. He was very active in the visitations at the VA and made sure guys didn’t go without. He kept plugging away even though his own health was failing the last few years but this man was loaded with more kindness and charisma than a dozen men combined. A rare gem we’ve lost.
