Retired CFD Killed
A retired Chicago firefighter was fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire with would-be carjackers Thursday afternoon in Morgan Park on the Far South Side, according to police.
About 2 p.m., the 65-year-old left the popcorn shop Lets Get Poppin’, 11758 S. Western Ave., and walked to his vehicle when a dark-colored sedan approached and four males got out, Chicago police Chief of Operations Brian McDermott said in a news conference at the scene.
There was an exchange of gunfire, and the retired firefighter was struck in the abdomen, McDermott said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.
The retired firefighter was identified as Dwain Williams of Longwood Manor, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

No judgment meant here, but just some advice based on this and other incidents. If someone wants your car, especially if they have a weapon, give them the car and let insurance figure the rest out. There's no point in getting into a shootout. It's not worth your life or any potential serious injury. I always thought I'd be the guy who would shoot it out with anyone who tried to carjack or rob me. I thought I'd be able to find a time to surprise the offender and take him out before he could get me. I now know that's not the right choice. As much as I enjoy the stories of good guys shooting the bad guys, please don't risk your life for property, no matter how nice your car is. It's just not worth it. If your life is in danger and you have no other choice, or if you know you've got the drop on them, do your best to take them out. But if there are multiple offenders, especially armed ones, give up the car and wave goodbye. RIP to the fallen hero and prayers for his family. I know he was trying to do the right thing, and I applaud his effort. I just don't want this to happen to anyone else.

My sincere condolences to Dwain William’s wife and his children. It looks like he came on the job in his forties. It’s a taxing job on your body as you get older. He spent time helping others in there time of need and survives to be rewarded with retirement but to be killed by our citizens. This is so sad. And it could happen to any of us or our families. Now retired, I just want peace and safety. I avoid most people, hate crowds, big cities, and the shitheads that live there. I'm old and wise enough to realize that I was really lucky to survive my youth. I'm certain that there are plenty of young guys to continue the fight against the "evil denizens of the ghetto". I'm done with it.
When you retire, GET OUT. There is no peace and safety there for you. These animals hunt the elderly, why be a potential target? The town I live in has had two carjackings and two murders in one hundred years. All of those crimes were committed by outsiders. All of them were solved and the perpetrators are in jail. That is how it is supposed to work.

O’Shea will pander to anyone just to get on tv. He will never cast the blame where it belongs, and has led the 19th Ward into a death spiral. He has allowed the manpower in the 22nd District to fall to record lows without ever questioning the Mayors actions. The Mayor made him chair of the aviation committee and the punk wagged his tail and apparently promised not to make waves for the Mayor.

Common sense, past cases, critical thinking, and several other factors make me think it's far less likely that you'll be shot for giving a carjacker your car than for refusing and/or fighting. But you go ahead and hope your tough guy attitude saves your life. It certainly won't be your brain that helps. Most carjackers here don't work alone. They have several people, and usually several vehicles, which probably means several weapons, but you go ahead and take them all on. I'll pray for you. Lt. Williams did not try to take them on. He was not foolish. He was compliant with their demand, but they still shot him. He then tried to return fire.
Very tragic and my prayers are with the family of Lt. Williams. I agree with 12-5 at 1:25pm but not only are more resources needed in 022. The Alderman and any public officials who read this blog need to start backing the police not only in 022 but the whole city of Chicago. You all love to go on the news and social media so start going on the news and social media and be positive when it comes to the police. 99.9 percent of the time (and even higher percentage) the police are in the right and you all still don’t speak up on behalf of the police.

Then why do they have different names and different neighborhood boundaries? If they were the same thing, they'd be the same thing... right? Is Beverly also the same thing? Merrionette Park is more like MG than Morgan Park is. Why not include that too? Let's throw Evergreen and Oak Lawn in there too. How far do you want to stretch a small neighborhood to pretend you weren't completely wrong? Morgan Park isn't Mount Greenwood, and the neighborhoods have significant differences. One of those major differences so far is the lack of multiple homicides in Mount Greenwood. I'll let you struggle to figure the rest of the differences out. Dipshit.

Common sense, past cases, critical thinking, and several other factors make me think it's far less likely that you'll be shot for giving a carjacker your car than for refusing and/or fighting. But you go ahead and hope your tough guy attitude saves your life. It certainly won't be your brain that helps. Most carjackers here don't work alone. They have several people, and usually several vehicles, which probably means several weapons, but you go ahead and take them all on. I'll pray for you.
