A campaign contributor to Mayor Lori Lightfoot landed a $1.6 million no-bid deal with Chicago Public Schools after the mayor personally vouched for him, then delivered computers that in some cases didn’t meet district purchasing standards or work for virtual learning.
District officials said they bought the used computers in April to meet an “urgent need” as schools scrambled to get devices to students and the district’s traditional vendors faced backlogs. Yet more than a third are still sitting in a district warehouse as backups, a Chalkbeat/Better Government Association investigation has found.
Mark Aistrope, the CEO of Chicago-based Meeting Tomorrow, who contributed nearly $30,000 to Lightfoot’s mayoral bid, emailed the mayor in late March, saying his company could quickly provide tens of thousands of computers to the school district when it needed them most.
Early the next morning, Lightfoot wrote CPS CEO Janice Jackson to put in a good word.
This is the Janice Jackson whose top aide (Pedro Soto) recently pled guilty to leaking bid info on a $1 BILLION (with a B) contract to one of the bidding parties. Now you have Groot vouching for a $1.6 million contract to a campaign contributor to this same Janice Jackson?
Groot fit into the Chicago-way of doing business pretty easily, didn't she? And Jackson at the nexus of all this corruption?

Chicago, the Chicago Park District and probably many others have a great scam program going. Qualified or preferred bids. So lets say your a contractor and you wanted to bid on a job. Your company is licensed, bonded, insured and all union. They don’t open all jobs to bids because they only use the preferred companies. You can imagine who those companies are. This has been going on forever. You learn not to make waves.
Lightfoot is the same as preckwinkle but worse. Preckwinkle probably would be a little smarter when it comes to protecting the city’s financial well-being.

All that will remain of these "computers" at the end of the school year will be chewed on cases and a whole lot of chargers. That's it. If the city ever wanted to cut costs with CPS, the first area would be construction costs and overages. Or other bat shit crazy costs coming out of CPS.
Example #1: Why does it cost CPS $4446.30 for labor and materials to move classroom and gym equipment from the first floor gymnasium to the basement under the auditorium at Lake View HS, especially when Lake View's weightroom is already in the basement? Lake View's gym was redone less than a handful of years ago as part of building renovations there for $23M. There are no pommel horse, ropes, or climbing walls in the gym anymore. There's three desks, three file cabinets, and a copy machine in the teacher's office adjacent to the gym to be moved, nothing else. Why does it goes $4446.30 to do this?
Exactly what kind of equipment needs to be moved other then ball racks?

I have a gut feeling that those "inferior" computers will end up in CPD districts and offices eventually. We have been using computers like that for years in my unit. I have even seem police use their own laptop to do much of the work needed.

I have been studying very hard for the sergeant's test. Does anyone have any information on the test? Supposedly, the test is tentatively scheduled for March. But it appears that everything will be closed, at least, until the end of 2021. That means that the test might not be given until 2022. That gives us a lot more time to study. Good luck to everyone.

These were obsolete by the time they were installed, then the company that "sold" them promptly went bankrupt so they weren't liable for fixing/ replacing them. These computers were garbage. Someone then got paid, rebranded another company who then put in more shit computers under a different name. Same guys, same results. It's like the old VCR/ brick scam! You thought you bought a VCR off some guy on the street, when you got home and opened it, it was full of bricks. Beautiful!

Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is back in the mix for a job in the Biden administration, including consideration for high-level diplomatic postings. That’s according to a person familiar with the matter who talked to The Associated Press.
The person says transition officials see a possible fit for a position in the administration, even in the face of fierce opposition to any Emanuel appointment by members of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party because of his experience as a White House chief of staff during President Barack Obama’s administration. The person spoke Tuesday on the condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations.
Emanuel is a former three-term congressman and two-term Chicago mayor. He had lobbied for the still-to-be-filled transportation secretary position.

No - you cannot get techs to set up thousands of laptops from office max.
My spouse was one of the ppl hunkered down in a warehouse early pandemic getting THE FUCKING JOB DONE in just a few days. You’re welcome students of CPS.

No scandal? 1st off, I find it convenient that this guy donated to LL ‘s campaign just about the time he found out the cost of fixing his commercial property’s plumbing problem (it like a few others was still dumping its toilets into the Chicago River) was going to be on him and not the city. 2nd, I find it also convenient that after LL is elected and the pandemic basically renders his business obsolete because no one is doing trade shows or having events that would require his company’s services, he can now unload his outdated dust collectors onto the city. I ask again...who in the end paid for this guy’s plumbing issue? The city or him?
