But during contract negotiations the mere mention of increasing their pension contributions caused severe reactions and threats of a strike because they called it "a forced reduction of their pay". union employee to contribute their fair share in pension contribution a pay reduction?
Police and Fire employees pay a mandatory 9% from their pay and all the teachers were asked was to pay more than the pitiful 2% they currently pay. It is an outrage that they don't pay at least 6%. They pay so little then DEMAND and GET SO MUCH. THIS last contract they got a 16% raise plus a $67 million budget increase which is UNHEARD OF.

The City of Chicago is responsible for this. If the current mayor does not fill the 1000+ police vacancies, then the City of Chicago is responsible again for depriving those pension obligations. One day they will say there is no pension since they stole the money from the police pension fund and allocated it to useless schemes that gave the same City of Chicago machine kickbacks. Where is the IG? Where is the money? They need to freeze the assets of all those involved. To add fuel to the fire they are trying to take more away from our contracts. Today CPS has 300,000 fewer students but they raise the schools portion of your property taxes the max allowable by law every time. It is common practice to for employees to "pickup" some employee pension costs. Joliet does this for all ranks up to captain, capped at 9.6 or something percent, about the out of pocket costs of a an officer with 15-years in grade two.

Many of the "protestors" this summer in Chicago were teachers. Some were even arrested. No code of conduct at CPS unless it involves a student. Otherwise do whatever you want.

Today I walked into the same shithole, the same screaming,the same never ending problem, another of the endless stream of boyfriends- with the same results, a child born out of wedlock destined for a tough life due to moron parents. As the roaches crawled on the filthy floor, the stink of this shithole turned my stomach- I had to run out and vomit. This woman called the police, why she came home from God knows where, she is in her late 30’s and has NEVER had a job, yet has an apartment , cell phone, and kids , all paid for by others, yet can’t won’t manage her life, to see her latest sperm machine mating on filthy sheets, in a filthy shithole, with another breeder, all while the poor kids are sitting on the filthy shit smeared living room sofa. Yet somehow she calls strangers to adjudicate her life. Somehow it’s the fault of the police, my fault she can not manage her lifelong failure.
I walked back in, I told her I don’t care. I can’t do the same song and dance yet another time,what is this the 50 th time I’ve been here for the same problem? It was time for her to figure it out, I just could not listen to the same old nonsense, in the same hovel, from the same old dolt.
I called the retirement section from the car. The hell with it, I have had enough. Our new house is ready, why am I doing this ? No one gives a shit, why should I. The same morons had the same life issues when I was a rookie, they have the exact same problems all these years latter.

All of you complaining that we can’t strike are not looking at it the right way. We can have a strike by simply refusing to take any proactive police work. No tickets, no arrests without a signed complaint or warrant, no blue cards, no ISRs. Hit the medical if you don’t feel 100%.

So, CPS has had a decline of students number in 15,000. Every student in CPS is worth $12,000. $12,000 * 15000 students equals 180 million dollars!

Biden is totally against charter schools and private schools getting any help at all. His wife will see to that as will the new Cabinet member for the Education Department, who is a former head of the teacher's union. There will be a concerted effort to end charter schools nationwide and give unions in every field more power. They will also bring back the kangaroo courts in the universities that have ruined so many lives.

I came on in 1969, post Convention. The city wanted college educated officers to be trained in a more modern way, including defensive tactics and become a more effective pro-active department. That lasted for several years and we had a very cooperative States Attorney's Office and somewhat fair judges, not like the Foxx and Evans show of today. I guess that is what kept the working coppers active and involved. Politics were always part of the bullshit. If you didn't get involved, the job was better, You only had to fight a bad boss. The officer whom I copied, has been betrayed, just like the rest of us.
After 28 years of Vaudeville, the pension checks began to arrive. Not as large as the normal checks and certainly no overtime checks (hazard pay) but a bit of a payback for the hours spent and marriages broken and your kids that didn't have a father around for games or plays or what ever activities because you were sitting on a bus waiting for something to happen on what was your regular days off. Over reaching at that time as it is now.
When one comes on the department you choose between being a good spouse, husband/wife or copper. I guess many, in my time, chose the latter. Let me tell you the pension checks do not compensate for the lost time with family & friends. You paid 9% from day one and now must pray that it will last until your spouse dies. After an entire career, we thought we did some good/great things, but in reality, we were an armed occupational force. Similar to those troops left in Germany and Japan after WWII.
As a voting block, you are a non-factor and the pols know it. So your demands fall on deaf ears regardless of the pols tell you to your face. Sadly, those of you who want to make a difference, the community you serve will not step forward to show support. The Alder-creatures say nice things to get your votes, but holding you in the respect you have earned and deserved, not so much. You have been betrayed, just like the officer I quoted above. Good luck to you and any others (who get full) who leave now and are able to find another vocation. As an old Area 4 Sgt. said: "The handwrittin' is in the Hall".

Teachers are the biggest strain on the taxpayers, majority live outside the city using Citi addresses so many of them right now are on vacation teaching one hour or less a day remotely. Then do some actual police work. Arrest someone. Write some tickets. Do an ACTUAL foot Patrol. Go talk to people. You decide how you want to spend the day....makes it a lot more fun.
