He's Not Wrong
Language means things. Words have specific definitions within the scope of the Law as written and passed by the legislature. The left, democrats and the media (but we repeat ourselves) strive mightily to disregard specific meanings and bend the language to fit the "narrative."
Someone has to call it out when they see it. We try to, but we have no actual power. The head of the Police Union does have a tiny bit of power, does have a platform (when covered by the media) and does have a responsibility to wield it when called upon:
Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara unloaded on Mayor Brandon Johnson on Friday for referring to the ransacking of a South Loop convenience store as a teen “trend”—and not a “mob action” — and for telling reporters it was inappropriate “to refer to children as, like, baby Al Capones.”
In a YouTube video to the police rank-and-file that focused largely on an independent arbitrator’s two rulings favorable to the union, Catanzara condemned Johnson as the City Hall equivalent of a permissive parent who would rather make excuses for young people wreaking havoc than hold them accountable for their criminal behavior.
“The teen takeover on Roosevelt Road was not a teen takeover. It was looting. It was mob action. It is in the ordinance, Mr. Mayor. Look it up. It’s also in the state statute. I would hope you’d be familiar with that,” Catanzara said.
“Nobody is renaming anybody little mini-Al Capones. But they certainly, in many cases, had the same, terrorizing effect that Al Capone had 100 years ago with these teen takeovers where they think they can do whatever they want with no repercussions, no parental supervision and no accountability — specifically apparent by the mayor’s office in City Hall, who wants to excuse all of this bad behavior because Chicago has a past. So that means, do whatever the hell you want, apparently.”
Looting has a specific definition. So does Mob Action. And Catanzara is correct to bring this up.
For whatever reason, BJ is attempting to conflate "mob action" with the actual Outfit, a stretch of the language that we wouldn't even attempt. And BJ is counting on the ignorance of his constituents to think "mob" = "Mob" and all the exaggerations that go along with it.

Remember when John said we had no choice but to settle for that shitty contract and then almost overnight inflation made the raise practically meaningless?
BJ is a great nickname for the mayor
You have to give Elgin's Brandon Johnson time to adjust to the city, as he is a suburbanite and fakecwest side ( looks good on the communist redume) 🇺🇸... The Hanson Park Gatekeeper
Everyone that has become a new parent in the last 12 months should call and demand that this goof give them their 12 week leave.
I'm old enough to remember how 7-11 got it's name back in the early 70's. It was open seven days a week until 11PM. Now some of you youngsters might think, what's so big about that? But prior to then, most stores were closed on Sundays and nobody stayed open past 9PM. So, if we follow BJ's logic about the "history" of "Mobs" in Chicago, Al Capones people would have had to loot and ransack a Woolworth before 9PM and NEVER on a Sunday...
But of course they wouldn't do that because they were gangsters, but still civilized and understood the social contract.
Does anyone know how many Walgreens and CVS drug stores have closed in Chicago in the past 5 years? Has anyone contacted Walmart to inquire as to why they would rather open stores in Communist China than on the south and west sides of Chicago? Crime, maybe?
I am wondering if the Mob can make a comeback in Chicago?
Offering protection for a fee, and maybe a bonus for a job well done?
Some a$$hole keeps shoplifting, but the States Attorney does not deter them?
Maybe Rocko can convince them to leave these neighborhood businesses alone?
Explain the risk - reward equation with real actual physical inputs and outputs.
Your store gets looted, and 3 or 5 yutes fall down and break an arm or leg?
Maybe Rocko's given name will not be Alphonse, but maybe Manuel or Dontay this time around.
“When a reporter characterized the incident, which happened Sunday night near Roosevelt Road and Canal Street, as “mob action,” Johnson pushed back.
“That’s not appropriate. We’re not talking about mob actions … It’s important that we speak of these dynamics in an appropriate way. This is not to obfuscate what has taken place,” he said.
“We have to be careful when we use language to describe certain behavior,” he continued. “There’s history in this city. I mean, to refer to children as like baby Al Capones is not appropriate. Johnson referred to the incident as a large gathering.”
I could find no reference to anyone using the term, “baby Al Capones” except for the Mayor. He is using a tactic that the Marxists and the Nazis used to manipulate minds through language. It’s also being used by our governments and the media. No, these were not large gatherings like a Bears football game or a trend like a dance or fashions. No, it was looting, mob action, damage to property, disorderly conduct, also weren't some guns recovered?
He appears to be confident and intelligent in his public speaking as knows how to deliver the rhetoric but he is incompetent when it comes to having a plan of action and taking a stand as the Chief Executive of the City. And of course the Chicago news media is complicit in not drilling him down.
Mayor Limpy
The past week the National Education Association, the largest teachers union in the US, issued guidance on the use of leftist activist symbols in public school classrooms. As part of their advice to teachers, they recommended violating district and state rules and hanging items such as pride flags and BLM flags. This is generally cited as a means to “start a conversation,” a way for teachers to circumvent school rules. They might not be able to spend each day spinning lessons on woke concepts, but if a child asks a question about the flags in the room, then they can provide “context.
The NEA has been one of the primary driving forces behind the intrusion of woke ideology into the public school setting. Around 97% of their political fundraising goes towards Democrat candidates. They seem to be obsessed with the grooming of children into the leftist fold with lessons focused on Critical Race Theory, gender fluid propaganda and socialism. If you want to know where the sudden surge in social justice cultism came from in terms of America’s kids, leftist teachers and the NEA are to blame.
Keep in mind that the teachers unions are encouraging their members to break the law and lose their jobs, just to double down on political indoctrination. Contrary to popular belief, teachers do NOT have free speech rights while at work. Woke teachers might fantasize about being Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society fighting against the system, but the the truth is they ARE the system. There are numerous reasons why rules for teacher behavior are necessary.
Narcissistic teachers are parasites that view the classroom as a place where they are owed affirmation. They see the children in their class as a captive audience that they can feed off of to gain attention, admiration and justification. They look down on parents as inferiors and treat students as their own personal puppets for molding and controlling.
In their minds, the kids don’t belong to the parents, the kids belong to “society.” Progressive educators see themselves as...
(like it takes a village to raise a child says black culture)

Just a thought...
How many of the "Didn't Du Nuffins" got the same treatment and tone in one of BJ's classrooms?
Honor students funnin and clownin. When your stupid and you can't read add or subtract what else can you do but kill shoot rob steal destroy everything in this shithole. Businesses and civilized people along with the sport teams will leave except for the bulls.
All Brandon is doing is emboldening criminals.
All of the arrests from that day originally had Mob Action as the charge. They were all changed to Reckless Conduct before PC was approved at the desk.

BLM Protesters Victimized by New York City Police Win $13 Million Settlement
high praise to the union boss!!! its refreshing to hear s normal person speak with truth.
how much longer will Chicago keep voting for idiots who do absolutely nothing but harm our city?
tic tok, most smart big corporations are already gone.....that tax base is shrinking.
Democrats are masters of using and twisting language to support whatever stupid policy they are trying to promote. In BJ’s case, someone in his world decided to use the word “trend” in place of “mob.” I’ve seen that news reporters in Chicago are going along with this new language. These kids are thugs and, from the videos I’ve seen, they are primarily black thugs terrorizing these neighborhoods and driving small businesses out of the neighborhoods. Soon we will see “Communitay Leaders” on teevee moaning about how there aren’t any convenient places to shop in the ‘hood. Heck, as these terrorists move farther north there won’t even be places to shop on Michigan Ave. So the “Communitay Leaders” will receive loads of taxpayer $$$ to provide “alternative activities” for these little darlings, and absolutely nothing will change except black communitay leaders will have lined their pockets.
those damn CAPONES!!! always just funnin
somebody should market a t-shirt with the Chicago Capones
Capone was never this bad.
It almost sounds like Let’s Go Brandon wants business owners, police, and EVERYONE else that crosses paths with the neighborhood youth to act as a surrogate father.
Kind of like Hillary & Oprah used to expound upon………it takes a village.
The problem is that a real life father instills values that include NOT destroying or stealing other neighbors property.
AND, when a transgression does occur, that same father is there to provide the discipline to correct the anti-neighborhood behavior.
Oh, who am I kidding.
This shit will continue to devolve into God knows what.
When the City and CPD are apologizing for enforcing the law, and tripping over themselves trying to minimize the issue of feral 'youdths' doing mob actions, well, the people got what they voted for.
You are giving BJ too much credit. He may not know the difference between the Mob and a mob action.

Capone was never this bad.
Al and the Outfit wanted to make money, lots and lots of money.
They didn't want to wantonly and senselessly destroy anything.
Sure you had to do what they wanted, but they wanted to be rich, and they got rich by supplying you with all the vices; booze broads, and gambling. They built breweries, distilleries, and transportation systems.
Yes, Al and the Mob were violent murderous scum; but murderous scum with a goal and a purpose.
The Outfit wanted to build something, not just tear shit down and dance around in the streets watching it all burn.
As I read elsewhere, if he doesn't know the difference between The Mob and a mob, we're in huge trouble.
Mayor short bus is just plain dumb.
But the chicagoans who voted for him
are dummer.
Capone would never tolerate that in his neighborhood. Nor would Don Corleone . We are downstaters who use to go to Chicago 2-6 times a year and spend money.
no more
we can go to Indy and while t does not have the lake, I can come home with the same car I drove over with.
He should have added that public schools for years have been costing more every year and have been graduating students that cannot read...functional illiterates.
Now that would be a great interview!!!
BJ speaks about as good as Joe Biden does and is about as smart.
Hey BJ "short for Blow Job" what do you think that does for the business climate, the city's life blood, when videos of these little savages looting and burning goes viral? You think people, real people, not the dumb shits that voted for you, want to come into Chicago to shop or start a business?
Man....your a dumb fuck. Just watching you speak and "dumb fuck" comes to mind.

100% true. Brandon Johnson seems very slow. He wears glasses and fitted suits to hide the fact that he's not very bright. I think our new mayor may be Wee-Todd-Ed
I recently re-read the SF space opera "Space Viking" by H. Beam Piper. It is a book available for free at Gutenberg.
In the book, Mr. Piper's protagonist talks a lot about the planets he raids and loots; and how they "decivilized" and collapsed into medieval or worse civilizations and how they evolved back (if they did?). One popular path to collapse was from the barbarians within who tear apart a civilization. Another way was war, destroying everything civilized and eliminating enough smart people that wanted peace and civilization.
That could not happen here!?!
I give you Africa, Haiti, Afghanistan, and soon to be Seattle, Portland, and Chicago.
Those feral ghetto thugs should be treated just like Capone.
He at least was sent to jail.
"send in the scoops!"
This is occurring every weekend now and is just a couple blocks from the $7 billion-dollar development "The 78 Project" at 18th and Wentworth. That project is years behind schedule and cost the Chicago taxpayer over $160 million in TIF money (so far). The city has no idea how to protect downtown from Dude Inc, refugee camps and the hordes of lawless street-racers so how is it going to keep them out of that new neighborhood before it even gets up and running? Seems the clowns are giving away the circus before the tent even goes up...
He should have said the untouchables which is what they are. You touch them and you get put into the sin bin, the home for coppers who have done their job a little to good.
Black thugs acting out. Simple as that. Saw the same thing in NYC Thursday. Anyone want to have a real conversation on race? Didn’t think so. So much easier to make excuses and fast blame on everything but the real problem. Lack of personal responsibility by the Black community.
How would BJ react if it was white teens at that 7-11 the other night?
CPS students doing what they do best!! Teacher's have taught them well. Looking forward to the new school year and more intense classes on lying, cheating and stealing. Or you can take the college prep class on looting/robbery (prerequisite, you must have a D average). The next thing teachers will be pushing for is adding CCL classes and a range.
What do you expect? You elect a Duncy, you get a Duncy. He will appoint Duncy’s to CPD Upper Management too, just like all Dunces do.
You are giving BJ too much credit. He may not know the difference between the Mob and a mob action.
He knows the difference, he is just twisting the words like a good communist does!!!
Looking forward to the Hey Jackass tee memorializing this dumbass comment. Read on Twitter/X he was doing one.
Hey Mr. Mayor, I looked it up in the dictionary for you.
mob
[mäb]
NOUN
a large crowd of people, especially one that is disorderly and intent on causing trouble or violence: "a mob of protesters"

I worked at 018 for 15 years, I will not go Downtown if you offer me a fancy steak dinner.
This kind of rhetoric from Johnson strikes me as ill advised. DC Circuit panel recently issued a ruling stating that selective enforcement of DC laws against pro-life protestors (but not against contemporaneous BLM protestors) violated first amendment rights. The first amendment doesn’t require discriminatory animus, but the equal protection clause does. There, the court upheld the district court’s decision that equal protection clause wasn’t implicated because there was no evidence of invidious discrimination animating police action (or the absence thereof). But the more city & county leadership say this kind of stuff out loud, it strikes me that there is more risk criminal defendants will be able to look to, and successfully invoke, equal protection claims that selective enforcement is motivated by invidious discrimination and therefore their prosecution by laws on the books are unconstitutional in application. Why create that risk? Seems like the most likely answer here is: He doesn’t know enough to know that it may be the consequence of his rhetoric (same with Periwinkle, Foxx and others of their ilk).
