CFD Rumor

Anyone from the Fire side have info? True/False?

  • Off topic: tomorrow 300 ff/paramedics are dropping out of the paramedic program resulting in a downgrade of 30 CFD rigs to BLS

Someone stirring the pot?

This doesn't sound good.

Let us know the backstory if and when you can.

If the city allows 30 companies (engine or truck) to be downgraded to Basic Life Support from Advanced Life Support (ambulance capabilities w/paramedic) it will be a nightmare for the working paramedics and CFD as a whole.
We all know the ambulances are unnaturally running 30-40 calls in 24hrs. Some run up to 50. Absurd. Dangerous. Gross abuse of 9-11. Medics are overworked 1 on 1 off and are expected to perform perfectly every call. It’s impossible.
CFD brass & the city knows this but *wants* it that way. So when every ambulance in the city is unavailable CFD assigns an ALS company as a first responder to initiate care until an ambulance can be assigned and arrive on the scene which can often take 10-15 minutes. Sometimes even 20 minutes. They’re tied up with illegal immigrants and nonsense that doesn’t even require First Aid. Downgrade 30 companies city-wide people (or folks) of Chicago will be in trouble medically speaking. I’d expect the ALS companies in outskirt tax paying neighborhoods to be downgraded if this rumor is true while keeping the ALS availability in “the community” in-tact. You can count on that. They’re more important, you know.
I’m not sure but if you’re a fireman who holds a paramedic license assigned to an ALS company you aren’t able to drop the license it’s either for 7 years or they cannot at all. I’m not sure. It’s a shitshow either way.

The slight bump in pay ain't worth all the extra bs runs you go on.

Gonna take a lot longer for help to shooting victims if true. Community body count will rise if true. More dead bangers if true. Good or bad thing, you make up your own mind. But CPD should be prepared to transport and wounded officer ASAP. Having a good first aid kit and Quick Clot hangy will be a good idea.

Hey, why don't they put migrants at fire stations too?
They do have beds and a kitchen there.

CFD treats their cross-over medics like shit! They are regularly reassigned to an ambulance instead of their own rig, then CFD rehires another Firefighter/Paramedic to sit on the engine/truck that is now open. There’s a reason Paramedics get three days off, and the CFD doesn’t care.

Additionally, there is a drop period where medics must drop by or wait til next year. It is out of control, but that’s the city’s problem for not having enough ambulances or medics. 20 years ago then Mayor Daley was told by the federal government the city needed 150 ambulances, he laughed. Instead he just eliminated the BLS ambulances and made them all ALS. The CFD needs another 50-60 ambulances (plus medics, PIC, commanders) to be wt minimum operating standards of the Feds.

Pretty sure it was 10 cross-over paramedics that dropped. When they cross to the fire side they sign a commitment that they’re required to maintain their paramedic credentials for X amount of years. They had a dispute as to when the clock started on the agreement. Decision came back in the crossover’s favor and they dropped their paramedic status with the city. Some rigs get downgraded for a day. Creates off shift overtime for the ones that maintain their status with the city. Not the end of the world.

Majority of firehouses are privately owned which means the illegal invaders cannot take residence there. Same with OEMC.
OEMC has more than enough room, showers, cafeterias, cots, a whole atrium of comfort but OEMC’s building is privately owned.

#2 in CFD brass is M.S. She’s been on the job 43 years hasn’t seen the streets since 1990. Looks like Meatloaf and is responsible for CFD ambos running 40-50 calls a day every day. “Nobody left behind” is her motto even the 18yr old who needs a “Bama-lance” to get a. ride to the ER for a free pregnancy test. As little as 10 years ago CFD on a really busy day would average about 2000-2200 runs in 24hrs now it’s well over 3000 and counting on an average day. No wonder the race to drop their medic license commences. The liability is through the roof being a medic these days they are getting jammed up for things they wouldn’t even have gotten a talking-to 10 years ago. They’re laterally transferring over to the burbs, pretending to be injured for relief going on the medical for months on end and more are being fired for the smallest slip despite being human working 1 and 1 without lunch or even a bathroom break.
City has about 80 ambulance covers 2.5 million people. It’s a joke. At very minimum the city desperately needs 10 more ambulances but it’s wishful thinking. Why do that when these plebs can just work harder. “It’s what they signed up for”.
Cfd brass mirrors CPD’s brass. Merit and Demographic is king. What you know and your experience means nothing. Most are 1’s who spent their whole careers on the inside or on medical.
“Battalion X to Englewood do we got The PoPo coming on this?” Yea. That was actually said on the air. Professional.

First the police and now the firefighters/paramedics. In 10 months the DNC will be sucking up the remnants of all city services. BJ and his cabal and the Springfield Pig will be defecating on themselves routinely after the holidays. What could be better than another summer of joy in August.

If the CFD would allocate resources to EMS instead of FIRE then we wouldn’t have any issues. When 90 plus percent of your calls are EMS related but you don’t adequately staff that way what do you expect will happen. If the CFD was a legitimate business it would’ve gone under years ago. Only reason it’s still afloat is because it has city unlimited resources. EMS earns millions of dollars for the city every year and what does FIRE bring in???

Just throwing this out there. I had a medical incident and the ambos and CFD were outstanding. From the 911 operator to the CFD to the hosp. absolutely top notch. Thank you.

EMS does not generate millions a year for the city. 90% of the “customers” are shit-birds. Do you believe they’re paying the bill?

The other 7% are drunks of other origins, vagabonds and low lifes. Only 2% are actually legitimate with intentions and ability to pay.

Todays cop is tomorrow’s paramedic. It’s already happening; Cameras in and outside of their ambulance, the slightest slip up in a highly stressful situation is an automatic termination, runs from 7 years ago are being re-evaluated in order to jam the medic up, allegations from shitbags “he wayyyysist!” is an automatic suspension pending investigation, expected to perform perfectly despite going without food without rest and without help.

No thanks!

I hate break it to you but there are a lot of people that we transport that have insurance. I spent 7 years downtown as a medic and most of those had insurance. These people on the Gold Coast, Streeterville, Lincoln Park, etc. call 911 for an ambo just as much as anybody else with their falling down, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. Then you have the alcoholics who want to drink themselves into a stupor with their $400 bottle of wine. Millions in generated revenue by Chicago EMS.

I’m sure insurance doesn’t cover half of what these idiots get an ambulance for regardless.

Downtown ambos pick up drunks 95% of the time. I hardly doubt insurance pays for that. “Oh, you were found down for the unknown on the corner of Ohio/State near the curb? Hospital records tell us the fire dept found you and brought you to the ER with an alcohol level of 0.45 . Great! We got you covered.”
I don’t think so.
Insurance won’t pay for majority of the crap an ambulance is called for since it’s mostly BLS nonsense.

EMS makes millions my pimply ass. Lol. Oh, that made my day. Lol.

The city is short paramedics because members of the community can’t pass a state certified & licensed exam. Can’t have all the hires look the same even though we’re desperately short. If they are hired, they’re always sleeping at the hospital after every run & giving more calls to the medics already doing 30 runs.

City collects on about 22% of ambulance bills. Downtown medic with 7 years on had 0 idea what he's talking about.

I’d say less than 22% the media lies to make the city look better I bet it’s less than 10%. EMS makes diiick for the city. It’s a joke.

Medic shortage comes from many reasons:
Medic school is too expensive privates don’t do tuition reimbursement anymore.
1’s can’t pass the exams no matter how much money the B.F.B throws at their “peoples”.
Leaving for the burbs or only applying at the burbs for the same pay or close to same pay not dealing with mutts and shitbirds.
Less and Less CFD “fans”. You’ll always get the female groupies but truly nobody cares about the job anymore. Cat is out of the bag everyone knows. It’s a joke of a job catering and pandering to shitheels all day and night.

Lol what are you smoking! Wait, you must be fire and cleared to smoke.

These buildings are not privately owned. They are owned by the City. Nice try. But truly, I would not want ANY illegals or anyone not authorized, vetted or employed by oemc to be there.

Maybe you should read the story of the link you posted. In 2018 the City of Chicago collected $64 million in ambulance fees. In 2019, year of the pandemic, calls dropped tremendously, the city collected $45 million. You must very wealthy if that’s nothing to you! Probably another brainless, medic hating fireman.
