Crime is Up, Budget is...?
So where are the budget cuts to Dart's jail?
The Cook County Jail population has dipped below 5,000 for only the second time in nearly four decades, a drop experts are linking to Illinois’ historic elimination of cash bail on Sept. 18.
The jail had 4,909 detainees as of Thursday, according to Sheriff Tom Dart’s office. The only time since the mid-1980s that the jail’s population was smaller was a 141-day stretch of 2020, as officials scrambled to combat a COVID-19 outbreak inside the facility.
“We’re always pleased to see that there are fewer people in cages,” said Sarah Staudt, an attorney with the Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice, which helped forge the bail measure. “We expect to see some fluctuation in [the jail population size] going forward. But we hope that the courts and prosecutors and everyone else involved stay committed to the law and to applying the law correctly, so that we can see this trend continue.”
We should be seeing millions in savings, yes? And refunds from the County government?
This part of the article made us shake our heads a bit:
- WBEZ reached out to several law enforcement groups and agencies for comment on the jail population drop, but most did not respond. Previously, some of those groups have predicted that many arrestees released due to cash bail’s elimination would find new victims.
No one reached out to us, but we did notice these articles posted by SeeBS the other day:
- An attempted robbery led to a man being shot and killed on Chicago's Northwest Side late Tuesday morning. Two victims, a 50-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man, were in the 1600 block of North Lawndale Avenue around 10:46 a.m. when two armed suspects got out of a white sedan and approached them, Chicago police said. One of the suspects fired a gun, striking the male victim. The suspects then fled the scene inside the sedan without taking any belongings.
- Following three armed robberies near campus, the University of Illinois at Chicago on Tuesday became the third Chicago university to warn students about spiking violent crimes in recent weeks. Spokespeople for UIC said they wanted to make two things clear: the three robberies happened just off campus, and they take safety very seriously.
- Chicago police are warning residents about a series of armed robberies in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. Police say the robberies happened between the months of August and October during the afternoon hours. In each incident, the offender, while riding a bike or scooter, pointed a gun at victims or threatened to shoot them before taking headphones, money, and jewelry.

The criminals motto:
If at first you do succeed
Do it again
And again
And again
And again
And again
And fucking ditto to infinity.....
Don't you know? There are no bad people. All criminals will be so scared after being arrested, on e they are released with no bail, they will never ever even think of committing another crime!
Use the empty cells for the illegals. That way, when biden is out, we can easily find and deport them.
Crime is up. I heard of two incidents where attempt robberies were unreported. How many crimes go unreported. With the reported robberies up! It is even worse than people realize.
Just close the jail down.
“We’re always pleased to see that there are fewer people in cages,”
Until you get a gun shoved in your own face, comrade.
The problem with less criminals being locked up and detained is that they are free to keep offending and wreaking havoc upon society only in the great state of illinois is this celebrated
ya, they are not in cages, they are out robbing and pillaging
I can only hope that Sara is personally affected by having fewer people in cages.
I learned from 31 years in law enforcement that some people need to be caged for the betterment of society.
Since the number of inmates in county jail is down, how about put those extra jail officers on patrol?
I worked at cook county department of corrections.Everyday i worked a tier by myself. I had to watch stone cold killers like Gacy, Capone, Epstein, and others.I was on the GT SRT/RT mustang response team too.I never seen the jail other than crowded. Alot of the time I didnt see the jail at all because I always called off. Anyway I have to get back to my winter home aka the trailer park. Cheers!
I guarantee you that you don't want those jail guards on patrol.
My comment is on the pinheads in the media referring to 1600 N. Lawndale as the "northwest side" of Chicago. Do they refer to 1600 S. Lawndale as the "southwest side"?
Apparently, to the idiots in the media, everywhere north of Madison and west of Halsted is the "northwest side" of Chicago.
North & Lawndale is NOT the Northwest Side. It's Humboldt Park.
Hey axmen 009 where’s this trailer park you go to all the time must be pretty nifty if that’s all you have LOSER
This is the shit you stupid ass progressive socialist Democratic liberal Sheep voted for, now reap it ! The Wolfs are on the prowl, and you liberal ass Sheep’s are easy prey, and there ain’t no sheep dog to protect your sorry asses !
It doesn’t take a genius to know if you do not hold people accountable for their crimes that they will continue to commit more crimes.
"WBEZ reached out"
They and others reach out. Edit and then do your words against you, to bury you.
They have their agenda. These news writers, producers, spoke-Sheep can't think for themselves. "ORANGE MAN BAD!"

The problem, tentatively and temporarily solved by natural law sequence is this:
1. Attempt to impose violence upon intended victim.
2. Intended victim kills those attempting to impose violence upon them.
3. Intended victim resumes activities before being interrupted by attempted violences.
End of sequence.
Everything else is fantasy.

a harley Im too afraid to ride. Cheers!
From down south, honest question to SCC or anyone else:
Seems like the cashless bail is throwing a HUGE ball into the ASA/Judges hands and a ton more folks are BEING HELD, due to safety risks, as opposed to just cutting loose. Heard courts are terrified for getting it wrong, so way more detentions than anticipated (that's a good thing for society, right?)
Just curious on your take up north!

I agree so far.
As per CWBCHICAGO
If god didn’t want these liberal ass holes sheared he wouldn’t have made them sheep !
But the Jail guards think they're police officers.
Well they obviously intend to leave the jail empty.
Time to start housing the illegal aliens there.
