Some Good News

A nice story:

  • On Thursday, six Chicago police officers were honored at a ceremony recognizing them as "Officers of the Month" for October.

Four of those officers were commended for their diligent search for surveillance video after an armed robbery on the city's North Side.

They discovered the suspect changed clothes in an alley after the crime before heading to an area with several motels.

Police later tracked him to one of those motels where he was arrested and later charged with three separate robberies.

Take the praise where you can get it. Good job Officers

Why doesn’t CPD have more useful mission teams focused on actual real violent crime rather than tac pulling over people for mostly bs (half the time the real criminals don’t even stop)? It seems CPD just has zero strategy on what’s going on right now, but go get a cb.

I congratulate these officers and the hundreds of other police officers doing their jobs to the best of their abilities.

"Police later tracked him to one of those motels where he was arrested and later charged with three separate robberies."

Keep track of this "alleged" criminal's case as it moves through the States Attorney Office and the courts.

If you have that, the rank and file need a booby prize too, like say everyone involved in the murder investigation of Russ Long. Or better yet, how about firing them all?

Boy is this true. How bout sending UC officers to walk around downtown at night and make some arrests? Something? Anything? I remember seeing our tact guys walking around the shitty areas under cover looking for stuff. Now all you see are them pulling people over to get blue cards. This is what happens when you track numbers. You have to keep beating your last months, years or you look bad. It becomes an out of control spiral where all you can do is try to keep up with the numbers instead of doing actual good police work. I also remember seeing our tact guys sitting on porches observing, getting access to building and doing surveillance from roofs, windows. They need time to do this stuff without the constant numbers push.

Excellent point. I'd love to see this case tracked on SCC to its conclusion, as a showcase of how CCSAO handles award-winning basic police work...

Careful; this is where you can QUICKLY lose your happiness and sanity. Best you can do is make a solid case, gift wrap it for the ASA, anything after is THEIR problem or doing. I had to learn that quick :/ (thanks Cook for making me cynical!)

Saw the E French accomplice got a whole seven years, with time served out next year sometime. Always thought that anyone involved in a killing got same as trigger puller. Justice denied in this case by allowing the killer to plead down to gun charge. Hope Karma hits that family really hard.

10-1 benefit for homan tactical Eric Stillman. Ghetto hood rat Toledo is dead. Mama will be paid out millions when all is set and done. Stillman's medical benefit ran out and now he's in need of monetary assistance. How many times did those old timers tell these young dummies(including stillman) to stop chasing, stop thinking you can never be fired or suspended. Just answer your radio calls. There's always a possibility of getting jammed up but 90% less and avoidable! Fuck around and find out.

God Bless the Men and Women in Blue. It's refreshing to hear the bad guy was located, identified and arrested. Good Job! I am curious how the former public defender Kim Foxx's office will provide a defense for the criminal justice involved lad for non prosecution or offer a lesser crime with no penitentiary time. Good people get a warm fuzzy feeling when the bad guys are brought to justice. Please keep us updated office.

On what grounds are they trying to fire him. Kid or his partner shot numerous shots at a car earlier which was on tape. He had the gun and only tossed it a second before turning on the officer , then turned on the officer

If the medical benefit ran out can the 10-1 benefit pay for COBRA which he should be able to get. Hopefully that can help with the medical coverage

This is a by product of the compstat numbers based policing that came here around the Cline era and really ramped up during McStreetlights. Policing can not be quantified in numbers. Just by slowly driving around your beat you may have prevented countless numbers of crimes. By taking that few extra minutes to get someone the help they need whether it’s with getting the directions, pushing a car out of the snow, or getting someone to the hospital for treatment they need a police officer will affect the people around them in ways that can never be put into a spreadsheet or graph.

Now back to my first point. This department has an overwhelming amount of top level leadership, I use that term loosely. All these gold stars continued to create more spots for their ilk. A way to justify promotions for the undeserving was to begin to itemize policing. Over the last twenty or so years it’s been different here, arrests in the level 2 doc, gang/narcotic dispersals, contact cards, or now the blue card. These so called “bosses” have held things like management on a watch, start times, keeping a partner, time due (a day off), even people trying to leave a district for a unit over the heads of officers based on productivity.

In closing to your point, a mission team with a mission cannot put items on the line on a nightly basis. Some of these missions might not be bear immediate results ergo some over promoted merit hack will have to get an ear full at compstat because his blue cards are low.

It was a radio call you asshole. If you’re not willing/scared to do the job quit especially if you’re so eager to get out. Believe it or not there are officers, friends and family that live in 010. You probably live in 016 and complain that officers are dogs when they won’t write your neighbor a parker.

POlice depts all around the country who follow suit with the numbers bullshit is what the problem is. We arent a factory which has this month putting out x amount of whatever, then next month should be higher.
The problem is we dont have real POLICEMEN in charge anymore. These clowns all lick the boots of mayors or govs and do what they want they meaning stupid civilians who dont have a fucking clue.
Policing is done in blue citys, your new motto is,if you havent figured it out yet, is do nothing but collect a check.

These awards should be reserved for the real police that work at headquarters. They truly are the backbone of this department. Without them the department doesn’t function. Real police work is accomplished by sitting at a desk or on one’s knees. Officers that work at headquarters are front line and face of this department. They work ever so diligently to ensure that YOU the patrol officer hit the streets with a radio, bwc, and maybe a vehicle if they can spare one. Let’s start recognizing our most important assets on this job. Making arrests should be expected from detectives and patrol. It’s the officers at headquarters that truly go above and beyond every single day they put on the uniform to sit in a chair all day.

Mission Teams come to the units, take all of the new unmarked cars and sit in restaurants in 016 eating all day. Send them all back to their districts and give them each a radio.
