"Shrinkage" up 19.2%
The annual Retail Security Survey from the National Retail Federation (NRF) shows stores suffered a record $112.1 billion in losses last year, up about $18 billion from a previous high of $94 billion in 2021.
The survey notes that thefts — both external and internal — make up about 65% of what retailers refer to as shrink, or lost inventory.
The NRF says retailers are seeing “unprecedented” levels of theft and rampant crime in their stores. More than two-thirds of respondents say they are seeing higher levels of violence and aggression from thieves than the previous year.
We're repeating ourselves here, but the Service Merchandise model is right around the corner and is in fact here in certain establishments.

That number would’ve never been that high when I was running the show at Zayre. Haha!
Last year, as in 2022. Wait till they get the full year numbers for 2023.
Some say soon the retail experience in blue Democrat cities will consist of you ordering online and having it delivered or order online or from a kiosk at a warehouse and having your goods brought out to you. The concept of people walking through a store and picking out goods on display is going away and it's by design.
The Service Merchadise model has been standard procedure in many a community's bodegas for decades. At least for the smart ones.
So simliar to a prison's commissary to be familiar to the community's shoppers.
Hand in your inventory shopping list, wait for your items to be brought to the counter, debit your account and off they go, satisfied customers all.
The difference, tho, is at least in prison, the customer is rarely bogarted of their purchases on the way back to their domicile.....
Amazon smiles
Compare that to the retail report from 4 short years ago.

In 2019
"The average shrink rate has remained steady over the last few years." Since 2014.
Industry Wide "an estimated 50.6 Billion Dollar impact" in 2019
2023: "The annual Retail Security Survey from the National Retail Federation (NRF) shows stores suffered a record $112.1 billion in losses last year"
It doubled and then some in four short years.
I wonder what the loss rate is when comparing rural, suburban, and urban areas?
Our whole world is about to change.
From the way we shop, the way we pay, the way we transport and limits imposed on all the above .
Freedom in the rear view mirror.
Neo feudalism ... it's what's for breakfast.
Another possible model would be a shopper membership only store.
You show your membership card before entering. No membership, no entrance.
Gee I wonder why

CNN Ass wipe writes that retailers should...
One thing they could do is focus their efforts on organized crime gangs that fence stolen merchandise online.
I was in the pool!!
Gordon food services, Burbank, Illinois just announced October 28 will be their last day of operations. They are closing down also due to reasons they’re not saying shrinkage is a big problem though without any doubt how many more stores will close in this most corrupt city state county in the United States.
The Great Unwashed Democrat Welfare Voters will cry foul when those stores close up shop.
BJ will create a Chief Shoplifting Desert Czar to determine the root cause of this systematic disinvestment.
I can help you with that shrinkage problem.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
The service merchandise system should be used for the Link card system. Bring your card and ID to get your food.

It's hard to believe that these big corporate bosses don't have the juice to put heat on Kim Foxx to get her to place felony charges on these thieves. Pritzker is another fool who passed that Bullshit No bond bill. I know that bv alot of these corporate big shots run in the sa m.h e circle that Chubby runs in

Not surprised. The Liberal idea of making everyone equal is to make everyone a victim of crime and everyone has to feel the pain.
This story shows how liberals will make us all equal.

Great idea. How about going one step further finger print everyone collecting welfare.
I remember shopping at the original Service Merchandise store in Nashville Tenn, before it finally closed. Damn, I'm old. :-(

On ammo, store it in a cool, dry, airtight place and it will be good for decades.
In the 1980s, I shot rifle notches with issue ammo dated 1943.
