Pay Raise for Fred (UPDATE)

Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration is keeping a self-described “old school” former cop within arm’s reach of new Police Supt. Larry Snelling, who is in charge of forging a slew of long-delayed reforms.
Fred Waller, who served four months as interim police superintendent over the summer, is now a “deputy director in the superintendent’s office,” said police department spokesman Tom Ahern, who declined to elaborate on Waller’s responsibilities in that post.
With crime a top issue in the city, each move tied to Snelling is under scrutiny to see what it might say about policing strategies as he establishes himself as the department’s leader.
Waller, 62, is set to receive $181,788 per year in his new CPD job, according to city records. As a civilian, additionally, he will continue receiving a police pension totaling $151,535 a year, according to a Policemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago record obtained by WBEZ.
This guy retires....and DOUBLES his income? Must be nice to be connected.
Wasn't there some ruling about drawing a pension if you were still getting a salary from the City?

BJ has to have eyes and ears in the Department in order to keep tabs on Snelling. No doubt part of his job description will include having a list of names that will need to be promoted or who is to get merit bumps. No other reason to have him in that position.

When I was in the academy two decades ago and needed my blues I remember the guy at the store making a comment that insulted me, he said "All COPS are the biggest cry babies I've ever met". I got my blues and walked out. Now I understand what he meant and he was correct. Do I agree this got stealing from our pension HELL NO but what can we do bitching about it, nothing!
He definitely should be putting that pension on hold! Wtf a 4 month job did nothing but promote people on the family and friends program accomplished what again? Or truth hurts is Larry not competent for the job? How much is enough? Plus of course he will get cars and drivers! Pension board look over here!

I'm glad to be gone from this department. When I came on I truly believed it was my calling to help others AND that our department was "ONE BIG BROTHERHOOD" like the movies. It took me a while to realize that both expectations were erroneous in my mind. There are people that come on the job destined to be taken cared of which is about 5% of the department. Now let me ask, ee complained about that girl on disability since the academy but what actually is worst her or Waller? I'll reserve my opinion. Everyone take advantage of any situation and she did so did Waller. Nothing we can do.

On his weather map he had a lot of characters to assist him in predicting the weather, etc. One of the characters was called "The Vice President in charge of Looking out of the Window." Sounds like a perfect spot for a new Deputy.

I think Mayor Johnson sees the need for a merit hire to help support a merit Superintendent. The real intent might be to show that merit promotions really do work and is all about the skills, knowledge and dedication of these multiple merit leaders who will now lead the CPD to greater heights and glory.
Absolutely disgusting bunch of thieves while my property taxes nearly double in this shit hole of a city and we [Myself and family] can't wait to retire and move to a Red State!

About 15+ years ago Marv Shear retired as a P.O. He was brought back as the civilian Director of Finance (Commander pay) the next day. He was ultimately promoted to civilian Deputy Chief of the Bureau of Administration.
Don O'Neil retired as the Commander of Personnel. He was brought back as the civilian Director of Human Resources. It was the same job and pay, but collecting a pension to boot.
Let's take a survey here, see how many sworn members of the Department agree with this assignment. I'll start I say it's hogwash and bs.

Listen....the new Supernintendo has zero operational experience, and I mean zero. The only thing Snelling knows is how to look good in uniform, which I have to say he certainly does. Which is also why he's beefing the shit out of the inspection division and sending Inspectors all over the place to gif people for petty uniform infractions. Because as we all know, that's the cure-all for stopping the runaway and out of control violence in the city and boosting morale at the same time.
Snelling is clueless. He's never passed a promotional exam. He's never really worked the streets except for a couple of years and then he was a gym rat for basically the entirety of his career. He doesn't know what to do or how to solve the major crime issues plaguing our city. He just knows how to smile and dress well. He's like 10 year old boy that's just been given the keys to the family car. Waller was hired basically to run the department while Snelling shakes hands and smiles. It's been a month and the guy hasn't even named his command staff. This department has become a sad joke and now it's being led by a career aerobics instructor. Good luck people.

They start in the trades, then through a connection get on the city, work until they have their 25 years and then come back to the trades. Firemen are the worst. They find a sympathetic contractor that lets them work when they're are off.
The one thing they all have in common? Useless know nothings, and unless they have a connection with the contractor like someones brother, they are the first to go.
Its all a matter of SUCTION!!

It was bound to happen, Tina or no Tina. The homeless have been sleeping in the stations for decades. It all is just a sign of how inept the city it and the disrespect they show the police officers. You don't see any homeless or migrants sleeping in any other city department offices or in City Hall or in any alderman offices, do you?
Just imagine what the CPD command staff would look like if the academy instructors didn't walk outside the class room when giving the tests?
