This Again?
Hadn't this trend disappeared for a bit? It must be back:
- Two people are in custody after the latest crash-and-grab burglary on Chicago's West Side, this time in West Garfield Park.
In the latest crash and grab burglary, police said thieves used a pickup truck to smash into a clothing store called Tops and Bottoms at about 11:24 p.m. in the 3900-block of Madison Street.
"We definitely know how much they took. They took tens of thousands of dollars of product," said owner Ahmed Kassim.
Kassim spent the last week watching friends' businesses being hit in a similar manner by the same kind of criminal. He requested permission from the city place planters on Madison Avenue to protect his storefront, but didn't hear back in time to prevent becoming a victim himself.
If it's a successful method for thievery, you know thieves are going to use it again and again until it doesn't work any more. Planter boxes, bollards or I-beams driven into the pavement would seem a pretty good deterrent for this method, which of course, would lead to other types of attempts.

Has Mayor Brandon gotten to the root cause of what is causing these crimes yet? He has been working on it for a long time. I know he is pretty tied up with welcoming our new neighbors and finding goods, services and homes for them. Could it be those people that went into that store after hours were just getting emergency clothing for the migrants who are freezing? Yea that’s the ticket!
You have to sell the barriers as bicyclist safety measures or climate change disruption at the next meeting of stakeholders.
Chicago supports its businesses. Not.
How about a guard with shotgun and 00buckshot. Oh wait buckshot is racist sorry.
Just leave the door open they are coming in regardless of the deterrents just a matter of time

What sizes were taken?
These worthless POS cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage to steal a bunch of stuff made in a third world sweat shop for pennies on the dollar.
Pointless.
The city is still trying to determine how much to charge for a barrier permit and the County is working on an increase in property taxes since it will be an extension of private property.
Maybe the store owner can have family member work inside the store when its closed.
Just kickback and wait with a shotgun.........

On another note I wonder if Ahmed Kassim realizes his business name is a positional preference description in boys town. Don't ask how I know. Too many white wine spritzers.
Once they secure the stores from nighttime smash and grabs, the animals will move on to take over robberies. Either way they are gettin' their shit out that store.
Also coming to Water Tower Place and additional locations on the once Magnificent Mile. At least Michigan Avenue already has some concrete planters.

As was stated before...we know the identity of the six 15-22 year old black offenders from the west-side, we know they use stolen Jeep Grand Cherokees exclusively, we know they target 20-40 boutique sneaker stores within the city and we know they strike between 2am-6am (nearly every night). Yet somehow these crews outsmart our CPD detectives and bosses and outmaneuver the 2nd largest police department in the country. This will not stop...only get worse once word spreads in the ghetto how easy this is to get away with. CPD = Third-World Policing
