Correct Again

Per a source, the mayor's office has instructed CPD administration to cut overtime for the time being as a cost saving measure in preparation for anticipated spikes in the summer and more specifically, the Democratic National Convention (in August).
This has been a semi-regular occurrence the past few years where OT cuts happen in the dead of winter before coming back with a vengeance when the weather breaks and the non-demonizable yutes are out of their CPS holding tanks.
How many retirements on tap for 15 May? 15 June?

I used to work for cook county department of corrections. You cant cut my OT when I dont show up to work in the first place.Thankfully the nuclear plant keeps the waters warm so off to the trailer park down south. Cheers!
That’s good tho because unearned wealth can cause a deep moral wound. Spend time with your families and not on fancy pants.
Have no fear, the OT will return shortly after the great thaw.
The only determining factor is if the groundhog sees his shadow or not.
By 01-Apr or 01-May SDI will be back under a new name and premise, and they will be throwing money at a shorthanded department.
With any luck these kids can get back to their OT before their Toyota 4 Runners get repo’d!
Then after running everyone into the ground against their will all summer, they will put out the obligatory article in the newspaper regarding the astronomical amount of police OT.
All the while never mentioning that it’s actually still cheaper than hiring more cops, training them, paying their medical, and covering their pension.
With all your free time!
Enjoy the beautiful February weather!
Take the Family Down Town and go shopping.
Maybe the Navy Pier?
The Casino!
They have get get migrant money from somewhere. Why not take it from a police department that is over 2000 officers short with another 1000 hitting the button this year. A brilliant move by blowie.
Opportunites have never been more abundant.
I may have to take on a few more temp workers.
Chalkie
Seems like a good time to hit the medical
The new Bronco is a good looking car, bring on the OT.
I have been to more retirement parties so far in 2024 than I can remember, I do understand the 15 Jan reason but really a lot. Hope my liver holds out.
Let's cut Overtime but CPD is bringing back Brownies training group??? At what Cost??? More money wasted. Brownies people are a joke, they have no fucking clue about CPD policies or what we do in this Big City. Brownies people have small city minds.
The DNC is going to be a real shit show. I can’t wait to hit the medical and have my shoulder operated on at this time and then I’m dropping my PAR form in the winter and I’m going to put this shit hole city in my rear view. Fuck Chicago this place was once a great city but these socialist have destroyed it.
Heard retirements will be put on hold until after the convention
The only ones who are scheduled to retire this year but work through the DNC are those 54 waiting to turn 55 and have a birthday after the DNC. Anyone else already 55 are hitting the EJECT button before that, myself included.
I hope there’s 1000 retirements or even more; so many different numbers are thrown around. I want to see Chicago melt down during the convention to highlight what Democrat control looks like. The occasional wildings still flair up and make the news but we haven’t seen anything like their performances during the 2020 mobs and riots to inflame center and right voters .
I have a question for real LEOs here. Whenever I ask retired cops I know why you don’t strike or have work stoppages they instantly say we can’t strike. I get that, but the fireman did it in 80 or 81 and got way with it. Just curious how they got away with it.
Note: I believe that no matter how bad it gets and you guys complain here, the majority of you took the job to protect people and ultimately wouldn’t go through with it, no matter how much they dneserve it.
Give the democrats the police service they deserve- do nothing

My family drives me nuts. It’s cheaper to keep her, besides my ass looks great in fancy pants.
I hid my Ford Raptor from the repo man/woman/them or they until the OT comes back. I’m living way beyond my means. My parents are letting me borrow their Buick for now. I might have to move back in with them for awhile.
4th District community policing office is helping out. They’re handing out the left over tshirts from the golf outing and ice cold Dr. Pepper.
Was great while it lasted, when it comes back I will continue to do it and scoop up massive portions of the S+P 500 while the old timers doing their side jobs in their 60’s continue to shake their fist and bitch on this blog.
Here’s a novel solution send em back:
Chicago migrant shelters overcrowded, pushed to their limit, aldermen say

I am long retired from a department out West, not Chicago. When after close to 30 years I decided to hang it up, I looked at my accumulated sick leave. We are talking over a year. Our department would pay 1/3 of the value of the remaining sick leave in cash when you finally retired. Obviously, financially it was better to ride it out at full pay.
Before I retired I took advantage of the chance to have a long deferred surgery on a knee that I had injured on duty. My doctor was more than willing to certify my need for long term sick leave for recovery and rehab. I gave them back a couple of hours when I retired. I commend this train of thought to my Chicago brothers and sisters in blue, especially as the DNC approaches.
I have a news flash for you. T he s and p 500 was just so, so. The real spectacular gains were in the mag 7 stocks.
If you want to work overtime, but cannot figure out how, if the department tries to stop it, then you do not belong on the job.
5:15p thanks for the advice my friend but coppers have been utilizing this tactic for YEARS here
10:36am. Brush up on your history. Firemen could strike then because they never had a formal written contract stating they couldn't strike until Jane Byrne caved and was forced to give them one

So so is what you want when you have some time left. Buying at a discount.
Thanks 10:36am. I was a stupid teenager then so I’m misremembering. Or maybe I’m remembering all the controversy, even among firemen themselves, about whether they SHOULD strike and mistaking that to mean that they COULD not.
OT Since you mentioned Jane Byrne, I have a question for any real old timers here. My Dad was on the force 20 years by time Jane Byrne came along and he always swore that Jane Byrne was the best thing to happens for cops. He said old man Daley never gave the cops shit and Byrne as the widow of a cop gave much more in benefits and pay. Any truth to that?

Jane Byrne was the Mayor when Chicago Police first Unionized. I guess you can say she was very instrumental in the gains made by cpd because old man Daley would’ve never allow that to happen.

Never heard or read she was the widow of a cop, but she did give us duly earned respect and our first contract. Only heard love for her. Never heard anyone in blue speak ill of her. Can't say the same for Mayor Daley the 1st. He seemed to favor CFD.
Dr. Pepper kicks butt!
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Jane Byrne was the God Mother of a Chicago Police Officer, She was good to CPD but screwed the Firemen
I stand corrected. Byrnes first husband was a Marine pilot who was killed in a crash.
