Remember, the media is expected to keep you (the public) informed, and they've failed miserably:
Most owners of assault-style weapons in Illinois appear not to have registered their guns in order to legally keep them. But there are minimal consequences for failing to register, and whether the law is even enforced likely depends heavily on where you live and how authorities discover an unregistered gun.
The state banned assault-style weapons a year ago, but allowed people to keep the ones they already possessed provided they register them before Jan. 1 of this year.
Only 1% of people with firearm owners identification cards in the state had registered by the deadline, according to the Illinois State Police. Just over 29,000 people reported nearly 69,000 weapons as of Dec. 31, according to the state police. There are 2.5 million FOID holders in Illinois.
The numbers don't lie. Compliance is sorely lacking and the ISP (not the troopers in the cars - we're talking the political appointees) have been reduced to making "pinky swear!' promises not to prosecute anyone registering late.
This after Fata$$ said sheriffs can't pick and choose what laws to enforce, while Crimesha changes actual crime definitions....and we don't recall the legislature granting the ISP politicos the power to unilaterally extend deadlines with promises of non-prosecution.

The Communist scum learned from the 1980's Assault Weapons Ban where things were grandfathered in, people kept making them and importing them, and claiming they had them. So they clearly tried to "fix" that issue.
Of course forgetting that the 80's version of this bullshit was reported by the FBI to have virtually ZERO effect on crime, and the 80's version rightly sunsetted...
Now they're hoping we've forgotten that fact, are reaaaaaalllly scared of Dude Inc's growth and activities, and that we'll believe that Registration Doesn't Lead To Confiscation.
Yeah, so anyhoo. We're not registering a thing. Not a fucking thing.
All they're doing is poking people who don't bother anyone and just want to live their lives the way they want to live them. But they're gonna keep poking, and poking, and poking, and poking until they get popped right in the mouth. When that happens, it's not going to be pretty.
I'm live three states away, and I would not trust the Illinois State Police near my firearms.
How are the assault weapons bans in NY State and Connecticut doing?
These laws have not put one single criminal in jail, or kept them in jail longer. They are merely used to trap law abiding, especially conservatives who as a whole are more likely to own guns and especially guns like AR-15's.
The Progressive Democrats have already poisoned the opinions of Blacks and ignorant Liberals against the police. Just about the only support the police have left is the Conservative side of politics, especially legal gun owners. Do you want to lose their support too?

Once again proving the two biggest threats to gun rights are Politicians and Rust, in that order.
About 15 or so years ago California pulled this stunt with the SKS, a cheap semi auto, 7.62 x 39 Chinese/Russian rifle. A $200 truck gun, popular with farmers and ranchers in the valley for dealing with predators.
"Just register them, so if they're ever stolen, owners can reclaim them".
One year after they passed the Registration law, they passed a new law banning them and felony charges for just owning one.
IMNSHO, gun owners keep a lot closer track of this stuff than the politicians that pass these dumbass laws. As the WHO so eloquently put it; "We won"t be fooled again".
If the numbers are realistic, I may have to retract all the times I refer to Illinois people as FIBs.
The Sheriffs are merely being realistic. You don't think THEY will attempt to confiscate an AR (or five) from a home in their county, do you? Nor will any Deputy with half a brain.

So the fat clown says police cannot choose what about all of the states attorneys all of the judges who have a simple job open the law book read what the offense is right at the bottom it tells you the penalties a child could do it, but they refuse to do their jobs and enforce the law
If the CPD or Crook County Sheriff does decide to start raid gun owners?
After about the fifth or sixth, you might find the gun owners raiding the cops right back. Pray sanity breaks out, and the courts start setting aside these unconstitutional laws.

My suggestion. If you find a banned weapon belonging to someone that is not in the act of committing a violent felony crime right there in front of you? FIDO. You didn't see a thing. But it was on camera! I thought it was an Airsoft, it didn't look real to me.

I agree. First time I got a FOID card, I think in the early nineties , I never used it or bought anything and it expired.
Then after SandyHook school shooting I quickly got one (like millions of people). I knew the knee jerk liberal response would be to demonize lawful gun owners and clamp down. Also by that time my retired CPD father had died and I had his service revolver. I wasn’t sure if I needed a FOID to own it, and because I wanted to actually learn how to shoot it and go to a range, I got the card. But I, probably like the vast majority of Foid holders, don’t own the banned guns. Given the way shit is going. I wish I still had the right.

There's over a hundred different weapons on that list, not just AR's. The Ruger 10/22 is on it. One of the most popular rifles ever sold and I can guarantee you that over 29,000 foid holders in Illinois have at least one!

Maybe she’ll learn from that other bartender that retired a few years ago Beatrice who was a bartender on 39th and western next thing you know she got on the Chicago police department and she rose through the ranks miraculously all the way up through the deputy ranks I remember a big problem with her and her daughter at her condo. 411 on the Cook County AWB. It ONLY applies to Un-incorporated Cook County, Non-Home Rule entities. If your Town, City or Village is Home Rule, then the Crook County ban does not apply.

PICA goes beyond AR and AK type firearms. Your CCW semi auto , that can accept a magazine larger than 15 rounds is illegal. Magazines with detachable floor plates are illegal, can accept extended base plates, hence illegal. Its trick bag city.
