In the wake of that phat pay bump Detectives got and Detectives moving to 10-hour days, and in light of oversight and ever-increasing responsibilities, there's less reasons than ever to take a promotion to Sergeant (like zero?).
Less reasons than ever to become a Sergeant means less Detectives will take those promotions.
Less Detectives taking promotions means less turnover in the D-Unit.
Less turnover in the D-Unit means less Detectives being made over the long-term.
Less Detectives being made over the long-term means if you didn't score in the top 300, study harder for the 2025 D-Unit exam.

I'm sure this new promoted DICKS/LESS people will be the answer to solving crime. It will be done through TIK/TOK, INSTAGRAM, and every other social media platform. They clearly have set themselves apart as hard working cops that are heads and shoulders over their 006 beat cop counterparts. Yup. Merit sure does work. We should keep it.

Collazo is crazy to pick the tact secretary who hasn’t seen the streets in over 4 years. Of those 4 years she spent almost a year on maternity leave. I should have known better when she picked her 014 second watch neighbor and his brother for merit sgt. Given not earned remember that kids.

I'm a female police officer. I workout, I know how to fight and am a good shooter. I can beat 75% of the male police officers.
This entire detective exam was a fucking scam. Part one was pass or fail. You just needed a score of 46 to pass.
Part two of the exam was a reading comprehension test and a memory test. Imagine two candidates enter the testing site. Candidate # 1 studied all of the orders, laws, etc... Candidate # 2 did not.
Both candidates would be on equal footing and both candidates would have an equal chance of doing great on the exam. How is that even legitimate?
On part two of the exam, they did not even ask all of the critical knowledge that a detective needs to know.
Lotta no time on the job kids on this list. They should get some time on the job. How are they gonna investigate cases with no time on the job? Get some time on the job kid. I got pants that got more time on the job then most of these kids

I'm officially old as shit. This is the first time in my career that I didn't know a single person on the list. I do know several of the clowns nominating the merit picks though. I'm glad I retired last year.
To all those youngsters posting shit, I sympathize with you. The system is broken and corrupted. I've known many "merit" picks, a few great, deserving ones. But mostly, clout hacks, or desk dollies, stealing from the pension in the form of higher unearned payouts. Especially, the entitled clowns with multiple bites from the merit apple!

This is why Almighty God made man and woman, and nothing else, and they are both made differently. Women can have a baby men cannot ever have a baby men can do things differently than women men are stronger than women. Women can’t be a Navy SEAL. Women were created for a purpose. The purpose was not to be like a man. The truth hurts, and we love women. Somethings women should not be involved in simple as that. I went to get a massage recently. I don’t want a man touching me so I chose a woman to do the massage in the hospital I do not want a male nurse. I prefer a female nurse that’s the way it is. When I’m doing strength training, and I need a spotter for the heavy weights, I prefer a man because a man is simply stronger and he understands a man’s anatomy when he’s working out , there you go some more truth

Merit ensures continuation of mediocrity within the Department. This is the life blood of the of the corrupt and the clouted. When Charlie Beck came in as Acting Supt., he stopped Merit. Not a popular guy during that short period of time. Chicago ain't ready for any type of reform.
Get the message here boys & girls. They don't want hard workers. They have to put up with you, but they don't have to promote you into positions that show up their handpicked deadheads. The PLAN is to demoralize the working police and making them ineffective or entice them to quit. If you look at the "Blue Bastions of Calamity", they are making it more and more difficult to perform your duties and do the right thing for citizens without suspensions or becoming defendants in trials.
The proclamation is on hold until each of these strongholds cannot do the job or have enough personnel to fill the spots. Then the Federal Police will be replacing the locals. First on the agenda, YOUR GUNS! Elections have consequences.
I’m sick and tired of coppers complaining about promotions of other coppers who they say don’t do a damn thing on the street. News flash: those are the smart ones who deserve a promotion. If you are out there proactively being the police you are truly a dummy. I’ll go one better, you’re f***ing stupid and don’t deserve a promotion. So, STFU about the smart coppers and watch them. Take notes, learn and maybe you too will get a promotion. It will likely be meritorious because if you are out there “working” you are way to stupid to pass a test. Now time for me to go back in the hole and get my nap in before check off.

It was proposed that Snelling be the only department member allowed to view the final draft of the Sergeant’s exam to prevent the rampant cheating by exempts. The not so bad idea was immediately shut down by all exempts present at the meeting. Larry do the right thing and don’t allow these cheaters to see the exam and pass it on to their friends. Merit is already a drag on the promotional system at 30%. For what reason does a random exempt need to see the exam other than to photo copy it and pass it on to their friends. Stop the cheating already.
Don't run out and buy suits or skirts, your old blues will do just fine flat foots...
One of the rules should be you can only nominate someone for merit if both the sponsor and merit appointee can pass the power test.
What about the movement with the exempts? Who’s moving up and who’s moving down?

Hilarious and sad that you think Larry is some honorable do-gooder who would never think to help his friends cheat their way to promotions. If the test exists, someone has a copy and will show it to their buddies to cheat. And that's exactly what the department and the city want, so they can sneak in enough people that fit the desired demographics without using merit for all of them.

These three have zero street experience combined. At least 2 of them are cocky, have attitudes and are alpha females. I'm sure these personality traits will hugely contribute to extracting confessions from the offenders and solve the unsolvable. I can't wait for one of them to show up to my crime scene and "handle it".

It’s not supposed to. It’s supposed to be a reward for surviving what is surely the worst thing you’ve ever had to encounter in your life, while doing this job. It’s the absolute least this city and job should do, but instead someone’s work piece or desk dolly gets it. It’s a tremendous smack in the face and one of the biggest reasons why morale on this dept is at an all-time low.
All merits should know that no matter what you do you’ll never get the respect of those that made it legit, sorry if that hurts but it’s the truth.
The DEI merit promotions continue unabated and they’re not trying to hide it. From the look of this merit list don’t expect many cases to get cleared.
Det was one of the best jobs on the dept, but having some time on and a good spot you have to be crazy to think that still applies today.

Merit or not it’s almost irrelevant when passing was 45% and the second part was Mickey Mouse bullshit.
They will never let that happen. Larry couldn’t remember the answers to pass the test for his own promotion, hence all the laritorious promotions. He can’t be counted on to remember the test and disseminate it to the chosen few. Get ready for another exscam.

Mariposa has been inside 5 out of 7 years. She has been a problem everywhere she has been. She tells everyone her aunt is P Casey. No wonder she scored on the test. She caused problems at 025 because she didn’t want to work 1st watch. She goes to HQ security desk with 2 yrs on on days…..then goes EAP then 128 she will cry to stay on days and inside. Good luck to CPD D unit with that one. Now you know why we are screw………..again

Good luck to the new Detectives. It’s the most rewarding job on the Department that requires the most work and takes on the most responsibility when done correctly. Victims in this city need you. Be committed. It takes some time to get comfortable. Don’t hesitate to fully take on the jobs you are assigned. Think outside the box. Take what you can from senior detectives and good ASAs. Talk to people. You have to make decisions so don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Never fear criticism. Ignore the nay sayers like the complainers posting here. Most of them will be dead while you are still putting bad people into prison.

"Promoting qualified applicants"....??? Or maybe they just used the "reflect a broad cross section of the Chicago community "? (See merit picks that worked in 006).
The monitor, if they care, might want to look into the merit picks. For example, all the people who just worked inside. From a work knowledge point of view. How can you get a merit pick as a Detective when you have been sitting behind a desk 90 percent of your career? Is there a way to look at the number of case reports an Officer has done in their career and what they were for? How can you conduct follow up investigations when you barely ever conducted preliminary investigations?
How do you go from being a schedule maker or flunkey for an exempt to an investigator of Robberies, Homicides, Sexual Assaults, Burglaries? I'm being serious.

Baez, Bebenek, and Brant. 3 POs that haven’t answered a job in years. One’s a straight scammer/medical abuser, another worked behind the guard desk at HQ before getting a bigger scam spot, and the other works a radio room on a unit.
Bebenek is a nice lady. She’s been busing her ass training her replacement and someone has been going around disrespecting his personal belongings. Also this unit doesn’t have a radio room asshat. Come with facts if you want to talk shit.
I’m sick and tired of coppers complaining about promotions of other coppers who they say don’t do a damn thing on the street. News flash: those are the smart ones who deserve a promotion. Beat them at what? Even the most overweight and out of shape man could absolutely manhandle the average "strong" woman. It's just biology. You can work out all you want and be a ripped 150, but a 200lb man who never works out could instantly wrestle you to the ground or knock you out. You can't say you know how to fight unless you've actually been in a fight. Knowing how to fight doesn't mean you can fight. We need female police officers. We don't need female police officers who brag about how strong and tough they are and how they can beat men. You can't. You could be 100 times better at policing than a lot of the men doing the job, but when shit gets physical, you're immediately and incredibly outmatched.

Not sure why the hate for Bebenek, I can’t speak on the other two much although I know Brant was a big complainer as a PPO, but Bebenek has always been good people who helps others out when needed. She also made it on score so sucks to be that salty hating copper.

The department is at about 241 rank order on the sgts list now and the next test is tentative in may/june. So believe it when the the department is that dumb.
it would of been better if the department guaranteed promotion for top 300-500. This would at least give people an opportunity to strive for top 300-500.

Stupid comment. There is police work to be done in all three of those districts. There is also plenty of dog cops in tier one districts.
Merit I get it, but not sure why the hate for everyone who made it on score.. congrats to you guys.
