Looks like the White Sox aren’t the only team seeking public money for a ballpark upgrade, though this isn’t quite the same as asking for $1 billion or more. According to a report in Crain’s Chicago Business, the Cubs are planning to ask Mayor Brandon Johnson for $30 million to increase security around Wrigley Field as part of the club’s bid for an upcoming All-Star Game. They’ve been mentioned in connection to the Midsummer Classic for several years now and the next opening is in 2027, giving them plenty of time to get ready.

So this has little to do with infrastructure improvements and more with security upgrades MLB demands for traffic bollards, pod cameras and other stuff.

If league owners can pay millions for their players, they should be able to pay for security instead of using on duty officers
Let them hire their own security. Better yet let MLB pay for it. Why should city be on 30 million hook because of one game. Let them pay for their own cameras.

To hell with sports facilities and their security upgrades. The city should be upgrading security in police and fire stations. The CTA has 33,000 cameras on their system. What does your station have? How secure is your parking facilities. Do you leave squads parked on the street? Does an unknown person coming into your facility go through a magnetometer or even screened? Probably all of the exempts have visited the FBI building on Roosevelt Rd. I wonder if it ever crosses their minds as to why CPD hasn't adopted some of their security protocol.
The government knows there are close to 2,000,000 gotta way illegal aliens (never stopped by Border Patrol and identified) who are just floating around the country. In the last few months 37,000 Chinese have been taken in. And the 40 question questionnaire that is given to the aliens at the border, the Chinese only had to answer 5 questions. Also it is almost impossible for the average Chinese citizen to just decide to move out of China. The Chinese also have their own police stations operating in several States in the US.
Now it stands to reason out of the millions of illegal aliens there have to be some terrorists. The government knows and created this problem. If you wanted to destroy a country can you think of any better way to do it. Be vigilant every day.

Why the hard no? The city is arguably,and more than likely the cause, of the increase in crime, why shouldn't they pay to make the fans feel safe? Seems like their policies should have a cost....
Maybe some government body can do a study to see the amount of money that's created by each team Cubs/Sox/Bears that's returned to local governments in the form of taxes and amount of revenue created at local businesses. Im guessing the Sox are dead last.

I'm all about making/keeping as much money as you can, but these millionaire sports team owners are pretty tone deaf and greedy af. With pensions not being funded properly, taxes on the rise, infrastructure that looks like crap, etc etc, and these clowns ask for handouts. Every last one of them would make this money back easily with ticket sales, parking sales, concession sales, apparel sales and of course the big one....media contracts. They've got so much passive income coming in its incredible. Give these assholes ZERO and I bet they come up with the money on their own with no problem.
If you want to see a drop in crime then let the police be the police. The only problem with this is that so many seasoned officers retired and the majority of this department is hovering around 5 years on and don’t have any guidance in this field.

This is about the all Star game. MLB has ownership of that game, not the Cubs. Security is MLBs responsibility.
