Buy That Man Some Ammo!
A man is dead after he was shot while trying to rob a man in Auburn Gresham early Friday, police said.
The alleged robber approached a 60-year-old man who was outside in the 1500 block of West 82nd Street around 5:30 a.m., according to Chicago police.
He pulled a gun and demanded property from the 60-year-old, who also pulled out a gun, which he was licensed to carry.
The two exchanged gunfire, and both suffered gunshot wounds.
Offender dead, old man stable. A speedy recovery wished to him.
We can't wait to see how many charges the dead guy was out on bail for before who chose the wrong victim.
UPDATE: Unverified - reader says robber had five felonies in his recent history.

I don't know the specific circumstances here, so I won't say this guy did anything wrong. I know if I'm being robbed, they can have whatever is on me, unless I can get a clean headshot. People don't immediately die when they're shot like in the movies. Even if you hit them a few times, you might get a few rounds coming back your way. And don't get into a gunfight with multiple armed offenders, unless you're Wyatt Earp.

So, just a thought. IF the dead guy was in fact out on bail for previous misdeeds, then it could be inferred that had he been PROPERLY locked up for those misdeeds, he’d still be a viable human being walking among us.
Maybe his family unit can sue the States Attorneys office for contributing to his death. At the very least, the States Attorneys office was negligent in their failure to lock him up. Wanton and willfully.

State Attorneys should be held to a higher standard, just like police are. They are officers of the court.
They should, in all instances, approve charges for violations of the law when there is sufficient evidence to bring charges. They should not be allowed discretion when determining what sufficient evidence is.
They should not be allowed to arbitrarily charge or not charge a crime.
Discipline for not adhering to any of these policies should carry;
1st offense - 6 month revocation of law license
2nd offense - 12 month revocation of law license
3rd offense - lifetime loss of law license
Judges should also be held to a higher standard. They are also officers of the court.
Any judge who doesn’t follow sentencing guidelines as mandated by Illinois law or;
who allows offenders charged with violent offenses (murder, aggravated battery, rape).
1st offense - lifetime removal from bench and loss of law license (no second chances)
The State Attorney and judges are elected officials. They have to post Surety Bonds. Claims should be made against them.
Both should be subjected to civil and personal liability to anyone that a crime was committed against by an offender who was not properly charged or who was not held on bail.

A couple of things, didn’t a CCH W/a valid CCL & FOID get arrested a couple weeks ago & spent the night in the shithouse until CCSA decided not to charge him? Next problem why does the CPD need to take his gun & more important what kind of hoops does he need to jump through to get his shooting iron back? I’m glad that ALL these comments are pro “smoke da scumbag” but does the police need to put the CCH through the wringer? YES, investigate the shooting, the guy stays there, tells you what happened let him keep his weapon he/she can always be found later!! See not everyone carrying a weapon is a crook, liar, POS! Some of us have to be in those hoods & we want to go home too!! Just saying, have a heart CPD, this guy is going through a lot.

I am 66 right now I’m seeing many around me checking out in their 50s 60s 70s some making it into the early 80s but one thing we definitely know the hourglass there’s a heck of a lot more sand in the bottom there is in the top! Thanks to deferred compensation we have a good sum of money now we are spending it buying new vehicles buying a second place to live. We’re gonna start spending our money. We don’t want our children fighting over any inheritance we gave them life we paid for their college. We bought them cars we help them with their homes we paid for their weddings now it is about us and we are spending our money. Just want to keep all your young coppers working though, so we can keep the Pension coming for that we thank you you guys are the best stay as long as you can. Thank you.

Tell us about all the gunfights you won, dipshit. It's cute to act all tough and say you'd shoot it out with anyone who comes at you, but we all know that's not how it works in the real world. Anyone with a gun already pointed at you has the advantage against a gun that isn't drawn yet. And unless you've had one pointed at you and drawn yours, shot the bad guy, and lived to tell about it, you really have no relevant advice or judgment to offer. There have been more than a few off-duty POs in recent years who were victimized by armed offenders, and most don't draw their weapon or even have it on them. The ones who do draw it end up missing every shot they take. The retired firefighter who decided to have a 1v3 shootout didn't survive. I'm not judging them, just stating facts. Like the fact that you've never been in the situation that you're so sure of how you'd react. Keep imagining how you'd react and how everything would play out from behind your keyboard. Those of us with actual common sense will see right through your Charlie Bronson nonsense. I don't know what online videos you think I was watching, but you watch too many movies. Your pistol can hold only one round. Once that round is discharged, you must remove and replace it with another, to have a live round to discharge.
That's it.

Your story of your one situation, where you, with your combat experience and training, survived with no rounds coming your way, says nothing about how that situation plays out for anyone else. You're really making my point for me. And if you're so aware of your surroundings, how did you become the victim of an armed robbery? I've never been so unlucky. I did have several sketchy situations that looked like they were going to turn into armed robberies, but my awareness and reaction to the approaching threat made them rethink their plans. I guess I've got 4 or 5 "gunfight" wins using your standards. I do kinda want to come to Area 3 to call you a tough guy, just to see if you're stupid enough to get yourself arrested, fired and sued, just because your fragile feelings are hurt.
