Even hard core blue state shitholes don't seem to like pro-crime policies....eventually:
San Francisco’s liberal voters just endorsed drug screenings for welfare recipients. Washington’s progressive City Council passed a crime package Tuesday that will keep more people in jail while awaiting trial. And New York’s governor on Wednesday ordered hundreds of National Guard troops to deploy inside the city’s troubled subway system.
The country’s biggest, bluest cities are embracing tough-on-crime policies that would have been politically heretical just a few years ago — ratcheting up criminal penalties and expanding police power amid fear and anger over a rash of brazen crimes like carjackings and retail theft.
These Democrat-led policy changes mark a stark reversal from 2020, when the growing influence of progressives fueled a national effort to curb police powers and scale back law enforcement budgets following the murder of George Floyd.
We're pretty sure they meant the "deliberate fentanyl overdose of career criminal St. George of Floyd."
Conehead won't commit to National Guard troops on the CTA though:

Johnson on Wednesday didn’t directly address New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s decision to deploy National Guard members and state police in The Big Apple's subways. But the mayor was asked if he would welcome similar help here in Chicago, at least during the Democratic National Convention this summer.
We have a feeling a lot of things are on the table for the DNC, especially as nearly all of this year's thousand retirements are happening before August.

Oregon lawmakers reverse course on legalization of hard drugs after overdose deaths skyrocket
The Oregon House passed bill 4002 last week that will once again make the possession of hard drugs a crime, reversing what many called an ill-advised decision in 2020 to decriminalize possession of small amounts of drugs. That decision was carried out under a ballot initiative approved by Oregon voters.
The reversal of course was spurred by a surge in deaths from opioids, including those of children, which has been fueled in part by the proliferation of fentanyl, the AP reports.

Chicago has done nothing as of time me reading this. They embraced the criminals and do nothing for the victims. I expect everything to continue in Chicago and continue to get worse. A lot of the violent crime in the NYPD transit system doesn't involve guns or explosives.
Commuters pushed off the station platform.
White and Asian victims of the knockout game.
National Guard don't have police training and their weapons might not even be loaded.
How are they supposed to deal with the garden-variety shitheads and the batshit-crazy psychos and druggies?

The CTA rail system is 1/3 the size of NYC subway system. At one time they had 4000 sworn assigned. Supposedly they are running a thousand a day. Chicago has never been serious about manning its system like other cities. The numbers are juggled.
The crimes have gotten so bad on both systems that NY Gov Kathy Hochul has seen the light (big election year 2024 & the RNC & DNC conventions) and crime so bad that one cannot ride the subway. Make no mistake she is an obnoxious pandering far left Democrat. She is about 65 yoa is an attorney and has been a town board member, county clerk, a member of the US Congress, Lt Gov and Gov. So she has been around the block a few times. She is going to deploy the National Guard to the system.
Contrast that with Conehead, 47yoa, CPS teacher for 4 years, CTU organizer who worked on organizing the strike against the City with the CTU, then Cook Co Commissioner for 4 years. Crime is rampant on the CTA like NYC. Conehead’s vision is contemplating the root causes of crime in the City and being the welcoming ambassador to illegal invaders from other countries at the expense of the voters/taxpayers. And Pritizker is complicit in this as he has the power to call in the guard.
One can see everyday the expressways jammed up with cars with some people commuting 1 to 2 hours not because they like driving in rush hour it’s because the politicians have failed to provide a safe and clean public transportation system.
I feel this summer in Chicago will be like the lead up months to July 4 and then the DNC will be like the big 4th of July extravaganza!
The city will secure the convention area at the expense of the neighborhoods.
If I were a criminal, I'd be planning to conduct a lot of business that week.
Normal people might consider being out of town.
I'm sure the recent actions are a combination of actual voters remorse on misguided policy, coupled with DNC recognition that Trump's Grover Cleveland like return is very much a real possibility. So, "get tough time". Sorry, National Guard aren't cops; good for riots and tamping down spikes in mob behavior, but blue state folk need to learn there is no real alternative to a sufficiently staffed, effective, permanent police force in your city.
The irony is that, barring actual White House intervention, I don't see us getting any changes in Chicago. Too many idiot progressives on city council (and misguided voters/non-voters) who will still fight change, even if BJ capitulates. I'm sure perps are smart enough to stay away from any increased police presence downtown during the convention and will just increase their mayhem elsewhere in our neighborhoods (something I hope Fox News pays attention to this summer).

About 25% of of people using CTA don't pay a fare, that's a legit number. Think of the lost revenue from bypassing the turn style.

I foresee Dude pointing loaded guns at Nat Guard and relieving them of wallets, keys, cellphones, Body Armor and M16's.

If you are retiring, GO ASAP. Twenty years ago when there was a buyout, they made cityworkers stay an extra three months. They made them go the Friday before Memorial Day. Then the City docked them the holiday because they did not work the Tuesday after Memorial Day.
If you are still on the payroll in July, the City will declare an emergency and make you work the convention.
