Freshman Ald. William Hall (6th), Mayor Brandon Johnson’s hand-picked chair, also warmed to possibly leveling the tax playing field between the haves and have-nots by seeking legislative approval for a city income tax on salaries over $100,000 earned in Chicago or taxing stock holdings and personal liquid assets of wealthy residents.
Both ideas, as well as a digital advertising tax, were included in the $12 billion revenue smorgasbord outlined by the Action Center on Race & the Economy and the People’s Unity Platform shortly after Johnson took office.
So a proposed 3.5% pay cut to most of the CPD, CFD, CPS, and any city worker with 15 years of seniority. Not to mention a sizable portion of corporate drones who have a significant amount of marketable talent that is 100% portable.
The rich will simply leave town overnight. The middle class will begin may take a little longer, but they'll abandon ship not unlike the massive exodus seen in NYC these past three years.

CPS teachers always threatened to leave for the suburbs, but guess what? If you have more than 8 years working for CPS, most good suburban schools don't want yòu as they see CPS teachers as broken, tainted, and need to be structured away from CPS grade giveaway and laziness.
Maybe, CPS teachers have a shot at real shitty districts and schools like Proviso East (current home to former CPS Sports Administration boss Calvin Davis) or West, Chicago Heights, Bellwood, or some cesspool in Aurora or Rockford.

Here is an idea, cut spending.
So, say my wife makes 260000 and will have to pay 9000 in extra taxes and we own a house that will surely lose value when everyone flees chicago. If I move my family two blocks north and sell before the value drops, find a roommate who is in the same boat, rent a cheap place down the road, sleep during the day at my quite apartment because I work 1st watch, visit the family at our vacation home when they get home from work and school and on weekends, I think I would come out on top. This will also solidify my exit date as 5 years earlier than previously anticipated. I could probably find enough write offs to keep me just slightly under 100,000. Added bonus of being able to send my kids to a public HS!

And newcomers are never disqualified for government assistance, health care, housing etc. when they disregard laws designed to control actual American citizens.
Lets even the playing field with those licensed businesses investing in the democrat inspired and executed government sustenance controlling schemes. After all, if the criminal latin kings (and more accurately queens) in Little Village collect street taxes to operate on 26th Street, why can't government collect critical "investment in communities" monies.
Its time these untaxed third world entrepreneurs give back to their communities financing immigrant child care, the "right" to healthcare services, government funded free-food pantries, the "emergency" shelter for the housing crisis and most importantly a world renown failed public education system. Like many I am retired (Thank you to the younger coppers stay on the job long keep paying the old guys pensions :) everything is paid for have doctors,hospitals,great cfd paramedic service,stores,airports,trains,expressways food stores all close. Retired here...I have already moved out of state. I earned over 100k in my last several years on the job. This would affect us directly. BJ is trying to tax his way out of his own mess.
What I don't understand is why any retiree still living in Chicago/Illinois post-retirement. For my entire career, I heard "lift the residency requirement!" Well...There is nothing holding these people here now except their own actions (or inaction)
I have heard all the excuses. "My family is here" (they can visit you) "My house is paid off" (You can downsize and pocket a whole lot of cash) "I'm comfortable here" (really?) Or the most pathetic "My kids are still in school" (you're keeping them in CPS?) If they are in college, they are old enough to make their own choices. They can move with you.
This is akin to the cage door being opened and the canary refusing to fly away.
Unless you are afraid to move away from all those "Chicago values"...
It's good to be in something from the ground floor. I came too late for that and I know. But lately, I'm getting the feeling that I came in at the end. The best is over.

I just got my property tax bill. 2k. That is for a 4200 sg ft house on 2 acres. Paid 345k for the house 12 years ago, it is now worth ,about 700k. No crime. No criminals. Cops are treated with respect. No Alderman.
Republican led towns, who knew? They can’t build houses fast enough. Get out of Chicago. It is never too late to find a place that doesn’t infuriate you.

Well now can we get the FOP to finally challenge the residency. What the F are they waiting for. If they institute this, we should be able to move out of this city. Or at the very least why don’t they have a tiered system in place that after X number of years u can move out. It’s ridiculous.
I remember about 30 years ago the issue of a city income tax came up. It was mentioned that there was a court decision that a mandatory income tax on employees couldn't be held to a residency requirement.
Something to look into maybe...

Why don’t you just retire and worry about yourself. Nobody needs you to list the reasons not to stay in Chicago. We are all adults and can make up our own minds and sure don’t need to explain anything to you

How about YOU go to your State Rep and ask him to introduce a bill to change the law. Arbitrators have already ruled the law has to be changed before they came rule on it.
