Officer Wounded, Assailant DOA?
The media, as usual, take extreme pains to hide the fact that an offender shot an officer and the officer returned fire:
- A Chicago police officer and an offender were shot Thursday evening in the city’s Humboldt Park neighborhood, according to Chicago police and fire departments.
The shooting happened around 6 p.m. near West Ferdinand Street and North Avers Avenue.
The Chicago Fire Department said an officer was shot and taken to Stroger Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An offender was shot and taken to Mount Sinai in critical condition, according to the fire department.
Another officer was taken to Stroger Hospital with a minor medical issue, according to the fire department.
They make it sound like two unrelated events. Assholes.
In any event, we're told the officer is stable and his wound(s) are non-life threatening.
Early reports are that the offender is stable also, as being in an inert non-alive state is stable by definition. But maybe our e-mailer was just being funny.

Bad guy opened up on the officers while approaching on a traffic stop. Officer is hit, officers return fire with a shootout ensuing. Bad guy dead, officer struck in a bad spot in the wrist that will be hard to fully heal.. but glad not worse.
Can someone SPAR the commander of 010 for inattention to duty?
I heard cop shot in the wrist and offender is dead, as he should be. I hope the officer has or regains full use of that injured wrist, and suffers no lasting physical or mental effects due to this incident. I also hope the offender's family members die in a fire before they can find a graduation picture and a lawyer to sue for the death their failures brought upon their family member. Stay safe out there, everyone.

Before a supervisor asks the public safety questions, the shooting officer turns off his BWC. All questions are to be asked off camera. Finding the shooting officer and asking the public safety questions ASAP prevent the officer from accidentally saying something dumb on camera that could hurt them with COPA or the courts. Can’t fault the tac LT here.

Not everyone who’s waiting for disability should be getting it. Just like there’s generational welfare, there are some who have learned from the past how to game the system. If you can go to the gym or work a retail job, you can sit at a desk on limited duty and work for your paycheck from the city.

That was probably to cover anyone before they got caught on camera saying something "unfortunate." You turn your BWC off before answering the questions. While it's off, you can say whatever you need to say without it being recorded and used against you when you did nothing wrong. It's also necessary, which is kind of implied by the name, to ask the questions for public safety reasons. It was most likely a quick reminder over the air to get it done ASAP before every word anyone on scene said was recorded to be overanalyzed and used against them in the future. It also covers everyone in terms of finding out if there are any other public safety concerns, such as injuries, other offenders, evidence that could disappear, etc. You really don't want to wait around very long before getting those questions done.
That isn’t even close to Humboldt Park , it’s the 011th District and still the West side !

There's probably a very small percentage who know about that Public Safety Investigation stuff, as shown in the comments here, unless they've been in a shooting. I also don't believe the person asking is a civilian, but they could be. Civilians can also look up any CPD directive they want. It's all available online.

The comments here show that this isn't well known information. It's really not something blue shirts would need to concern themselves with, so assuming they don't know it isn't exactly patronizing. Your snowflake reaction to my correct assumption is the bigger problem. How dare I assume someone doesn't know something they have no reason to know, that they were never taught, and that they'll never use? What a patronizing asshole I must be, to sit here and judge people by simply saying they don't know about an obscure set of questions asked in very rare circumstances! Go to your safe space and try to recover from this horrendous attack on your feelings. When you're done shaking and crying, ask your coworkers if they know about the Public Safety Investigation questions. Maybe you'll be surprised how few have any idea what they are.
