Years back we had a lieutenant who knew nothing. The sergeants and even some POs did all his reports. So some people will get by regardless.

I don't disagree, but look at what are applicants. Bottom of the barrel. Can't expect much. The recruitment section is getting ghetto rat security guards with dreads that reek of weed to apply at uniform stores. This city is gone and the old CPD we remember, those days are very long in the past. It only gets worse from here. All you hard chargers, car pursuits land you up in prison, fired, sued or injured severely. Hate to burst your bubble, but nothing you do will make an impact on anything, as the democratic city leadership has buried itself decades ago on the side of the criminal element. All jokes aside, this test was a clusterfuck from the very beginning. A score of 49% , with no challenged questions should be considered passing. I took the Bernstein class and unofficially scored a 73%. Last sergeants test was a lot easier and a lot more organized. We shall see!

From most people with brains seems they got about 30-35 wrong on average. It want an easy test. But it doesn’t even matter. The 80% vs the 40%, if they dont have clout and don’t get into top 200 on the subjective part of the test, they lose.

It was this 1-10, multiple category mumbles jumbo rating your supervisor assigned each officer prior to the sergeant exam.
It was supposed to whittle down the list on the first part to the top 600 scores with the highest WTA
I was in top 600, great I figure now I have less competition
They then said 1800 were eligible to go forward

A few years years ago on the CFD there was a Battalion Chief test. About 120 people took it. Seventy percent was the passing grade to get promoted. 100 people passed the test and were quickly promoted. Most of the twenty people who did not pass were black and they pitched a fit. Rich Ford was the Commissioner and he changed/rescored the test results so that all twenty also passed the test. You would not believe the stories that were told about those twenty nitwits once they hit the streets.
I asked a lot of people I know. They scored anywhere from 40% to 70%. Not a single person I know scored over 75%.

Speaking of airlines I was on United a few weeks ago. Upon landing we hit the runway so fucking hard I couldn't believe it. Never have I had that happen when landing. When we deboarded I see an older m2 and a very young looking damn near 7 foot m1, It was then I realized that fucking goof must have been at the controls. United is pushing that DEI shit hard. I think I will start driving from now on even though those types of people are also on the road.

Hey dummy, you got a 64%. You’re the reason why the curve is so low. I agree though, the passing score should be 70%, but you didn’t make that cut off friend. I got a 78% so I’m good. Either way, it doesn’t matter. The second part of the test is never fairly scored and the absolute theft of promotions from qualified people due to merit will always be the REAL slap in the face. If you scored 400 on last list you’re not making it this time. That’s top 10% for the last test but merit scumbags get to skip the line. The more you think about merit, the angrier you should be due to the absolute absurdity of the whole idea of merit. It should be completely tossed out. We only had one interim superintendent who had the balls. Snelling wouldn’t dare make it right and get rid of merit.

Umm.. 87/135 is 64%. Study some 3rd grade math.
I don’t know how anyone is even doing the job of a P.O. That scored 38 percent. I went in without any studying and scored 80 percent.
If true, the question is was it one of the drivers that scored 38 percent? Chubby Johnson? Either way we will see them all promoted by merit soon enough. If true, this is pathetic.

& recently had a fairly major medical issue. The doctors, 13 of em! One decent in the group. Why 13, because they are hog tied to one body function & you have to have a complete check prior to surgery. They are scarred of each other & getting sued. The nurses, who generally know more than the drs are scarred of the drs. There is no basic learning as in this is connected to that. One drs title is hospital-ist, I might have mentioned it sounds like a bad tv show. The billing was outrageously wrong,call the insurance & they tell you " honey just be happy they paid". There is no longer any work ethic in any field. Am I fixed, no but I do know that when the next round comes I'm going to have an extra few pops & hit the pillows. To the unfortunates that discover me I apologize for the mess. Elizabeth I'm coming, until then can you watch over our thin blue line.
Totally agree with the post about the Chicago Catholic League being a feeder program for the job. In the bizarro world we live in a Catholic League education taught discipline, morals and respect but now have the modern day version of the, “No Irish Need Apply” sign. Who were the Subject Matter Experts when everyone up top are merit and too incompetent to be trusted with such important responsibilities.

The your POs nowadays don't care about a Sgt knowing the laws and procedures. If they ask a question and don't like the answer, they keep asking different white shirts until they get an answer they like. They just care if they're nice, and cut them a break on the end of the tour on their Friday.

CFD exam results are kept secret. There can be as much as a 4 year wait for "results" and there is no explanation as to how they develop the "band" number. What's THAT???
Why the band number is a magic number added to the scores of certain test-takers (can I say non-white???).
For example - if Cathy Cawcasian has a final score (written exam & oral exam) of 95 and the "band number is 8, then Mark Minority, whose final score is 87, is considered as having the same score!!
ALSO - unlike just about every other public safety department in the US, you do not have to pass the written. in order to challenge the orals!! Thus, if a test taker scores a 40% on the written (**see below - GADZOOKS) and then nails the orals with a 100%, why that individual will have a final grade of 70% (passing). Then, if applicable, the magic "banding number" can add more points to the final grade There is a seniority component, but most of the test-takers are full-on with that.
Now throw in some merits (but they had a passing score!!)
Some also have been given copies of the exams, which becomes painfully obvious when you see them perform in the field!!

38% is 53 correct out of 135, that's an abomination. That's called the CPS curve, without it this test is racist.

Agreed, 70% should be the minimum score required to move on. Someone who is not disciplined to study hard enough to meet the minimum score is most likely not leadership material. If there's only a thousand of that list then so be it, give another test. The department SHOULD have leadership standards. There should also be a probationary period for Sergeants as well. Merit should be reduced to 10% and packets should only go out after the final ranking is posted.
We have people on here that can’t even use simple math to figure out their test score complaining about others being lazy… Thank god there wasn’t math on this test or it would be a 28% passing score. I barely made it on time due to sitting in traffic for 93 minutes but I made it. If you don’t have that whack sit back and relax kids. CPD is a joke. Get ready for part II to be pushed back months so the bosses don’t look as inept as they did with this embarrassment.

they are still deciding how many questions to toss out, but it’s complicated because it messes with the bell curve and affects a lot more than you think
38% seems to be the passing score, for now, but they may change.
the city is scared to death of lawsuits, so their main focus is adhering to civil rights act guidelines to bring in as many possible candidates as possible: the lower the number, the bigger the pool to choose from.
and finally, if the base score was higher, say 60-70% to pass both parts, there would be less than 1,200 people able to be promoted- and most of them would not be black or hispanic, and this scares the shit out of city hall. so… we continue to scrape the bottom of the barrel

Similar event at DFW a month or two back.
DIE hire FO was bringing the bird in on a guaranteed, 100% fatal approach.
Captain took the aircraft away from her, did a go-around and brought it in safely.
The only complaint people had was that the initial approach was SO fucked up, recovering from it required maneuvers that scared the shit out of even the flight attendants.
This has been going on for as long as they have been slicing bread. If you took the job and thought it was going to change then shame on you.

In 1995 I was promoted to sergeant, but I turned it down, because I had no cloud did it on score then was told I would probably be on midnights in a shit district for a while, dealing with coppers who were stuck there as I had a nice spot plain clothes, Saturday Sunday off, so I did not take it maybe I should’ve because of the Pension but you know what it was much better just being a patrolman
The Sgt’s currently assigned to O’Hare are the worst group you’ll ever find!
If any of them scored over 38% on a Sgt’s exam I wouldn’t believe it!
And it shows as only one of them, FP, have any idea of what police work really is!

A few years years ago on the CFD there was a Battalion Chief test. About 120 people took it. Seventy percent was the passing grade to get promoted. 100 people passed the test and were quickly promoted. Most of the twenty people who did not pass were black and they pitched a fit. Rich Ford was the Commissioner and he changed/rescored the test results so that all twenty also passed the test. You would not believe the stories that were told about those twenty nitwits once they hit the streets.

Everybody who's pissed off has obviously never taken a promotional exam before. The system is built to reward the meritorious and punish those naive enough to put in the work. How about those mysterious psychological/personality assessments the dept administers in addition to the written tests for special units (canine, bomb, etc.)? Just another way to manipulate scores and put those with a phonecall at the top of the lists. With few exceptions, if you're not connected, you're likely not getting promoted. Nepotism is a cancer in this department.
Test scores don’t Jean diddly. It is all about size of payoff. Wake up fools.

they are still deciding how many questions to toss out, but it’s complicated because it messes with the bell curve and affects a lot more than you think
38% seems to be the passing score, for now, but they may change.
the city is scared to death of lawsuits, so their main focus is adhering to civil rights act guidelines to bring in as many possible candidates as possible: the lower the number, the bigger the pool to choose from.
and finally, if the base score was higher, say 60-70% to pass both parts, there would be less than 1,200 people able to be promoted- and most of them would not be black or hispanic, and this scares the shit out of city hall. so… we continue to scrape the bottom of the barrel

This makes the most sense. Passing almost everyone for part 1 and then having them compete against each other for part 2 makes it slightly more difficult to claim discrimination. It also makes for the widest pool of diverse candidates to be eligible for “merit” promotion. All at a cost of not screening out candidates who have no business being supervisors.

This has happened to me several times over many years on different airlines. None of the pilots were 1’s.

over 900 white applicants are suing, because of the Dei. They didn’t get the job, because on the application a person has to state how they are oppressed and white can not be oppressed according to the government.

You know what you call a Sgt who scored 38% on the test? Our newest CAPS Sgt!!! Welcome back to the district you were a CAPS officer in and don't worry about working the watch. We can't have a Sgt, who never went on jobs as a patrolman, now answer requests for a supervisor.
After reading the study guide for Part 2 of the Sgt test, it's very apparent that the city/ department has dramatically 'dumbed down' the test.. For instance, the test is going to be roughly 95% scan-tron, therefore , not going to be those huge "list of actions, notifications, reports".. There will only be three (3) scenarios out of the entire test where you will actually have to do "list", all other questions will be given the answers, you just have to pick the correct answer....I guess those with the CPS fourth grade reading level will now have a chance to be in contention , especially after the SMEs from the ivory tower on 35/Michigan will be able to sneak the test elements /content/ materials to their fellow "frat brotha's/sista's.... They sure are getting their bite of the apple in more ways than one these days... SMFH

We keep promoting Merit Individuals who don’t know how to handle a critical incident! Why doesn’t the department want the best and brightest to lead us?????
