Another Coverup?

It makes democrats look bad, so yeah, it's a coverup:

  • A Cook County judge on Friday ordered factual documents sealed in the highly-scrutinized case of a man accused of killing 11-year-old Jayden Perkins and injuring his pregnant mother in a stabbing in their Edgewater apartment.

Crosetti Brand, 37, who has a documented history of violence against women, is charged with murder, attempted murder and other felonies in a March attack he allegedly perpetrated just one day after he was released from prison where he was sent after threatening Jayden’s mother weeks earlier. The killing spurred grief and outrage in the community and raised questions about safeguards for domestic violence victims and the Illinois Prisoner Review Board’s handling of Brand’s release.

Judge Angela Petrone took the unusual step of sealing documents that contain “factual allegations or summaries” in a case of such high interest to the public, ruling that there are “limited circumstances” that overrule the public’s right to access information about court cases.

No there aren't "limited circumstances." This was a Grade A f#$% up by the Parole Board, the Fata$$ appointees, Crimesha's office and a few others.

And now, there's Judge Petrone running cover for the party of criminals.

UPDATE: Our opinion is our opinion and we haven't been shy about it after living here our entire lives:

  • There is not one single 100% honest judge in all of Cook County and not one single judge worth a retention vote.

Operation Greylord proved that, and the only reason that ever got shut down was the feds (who could barely be trusted back then) couldn't stop catching crooked lawyers, cops, clerks, and judges, with a politician tossed in for good measure. The trials took ten years and we remember a bunch of them. We also remember, Gambat, Safebet and Silver Shovel having their origins in the Cook County system.

You want to defend Petrone, fine. Good for you. Glad she had a successful career.

But she has to play politics, too. And we haven't been shy about that either.

My understanding is that the prosecution requested the documents be sealed in order to prevent the defense from claiming jurors were biased by reports of Brand's prior criminal acts. It seems like the right thing to do in order to prevent the asshole getting off through some loophole. Not a big fan of most judges, but this doesn't seem like the usual Cook County cover-up. A quick look at her history seems to suggest she likes to keep criminals locked up when they file their bullshit appeals. I'd let this one play out before condemning the judge. If it is a cover-up attempt, blame the State's Attorney's office for requesting the documents be sealed.

I was in court for this. That is not what happened. Judge Petrone granted the States request to seal the documents for FOIA purposes so that it doesn’t come out before trial and prejudice the jury. Because they are sealed now, does not mean they don’t come out during trial , which will then make it public. That is all.

And if I may bring up a point, Judge Petrone is always there for us. She was up at midnight, 2 in the morning, everytime the phone rang for warrants for the murder of Officer Huesca and the manhunt for the POS that killed him.

Anyone who would write a smear like this against Judge Angela Petrone clearly knows nothing about Judge Petrone. She is one of the best, brightest and most ethical judges in the Criminal Courts Building. She is the farthest thing from a shill or operative for the leftists in the Cook County Democratic Party. She does her job with fairness, integrity and she follows the law. As a State's Attorney she was among the best of the best and has long been revered by police officers who have worked with her. As a judge, she is willing and able to sign warrants at any hour of the day or night. No one outworks her or is more dedicated to following the law to make Chicago and Cook County safer. And if she ordered that the records be sealed, she had a damn good reason to do it. So please save your criticism for the hundreds of softy police hating judges in Cook County because they are the ones who deserve this kind of post.

I think retracting the accusation that Judge Petrone is running cover is in order. You are, in essence, claiming she is part of the corruption. She is one of the few good and impartial judges we have left that are very police friendly. She has gone out of her way to answer her phone and make herself available, without complaint, at all hours of the night when no other judges would entertain us for warrants of a pressing nature. Anyone that knows her knows her character. It’s a damn shame to see this blog suggest she’s corrupt.

As a previous poster stated it was the case that the ASAs requested censorship of information until presented during trial to avoid a claim of prejudicial prosecution. In which case, the SAO is the requestor and the judge made a decision. SCC is usually smarter than this

5/12/2024 10:21:00 AM

This POS keeps claiming he can’t get a fair trial be issue of all the media attention. So, the less that’s available, the more he can’t claim he didn’t get a fair trial.

As a few others have said, Judge Petrone is certainly not our enemy.

I don’t know the specifics of this case, but the poster who stated that it may be at the. Request of the CCSAO’s office might be in to something.

I know that the CCSAO has us extremely jaded, and typically judges here cannot be trusted.
I did not know her as an ASA, but through my experiences with her as a judge- she is an extremely kind person, and is an ally to have on the bench.
About one of the only judges I vote to retain.

When I read the name I couldn’t believe it, figured there had to be more to the story, that’s how much I respect her.
So let’s try not to throw mud before all the facts come out.

So far, it has not occurred in sufficient quantity to cause me to have to hire assistants.

This is not unusual since these are sealed from the public but can still be entered into the transcript at trial as factual evidence. It's been explained several times in this thread. Are you having trouble reading it? When a judge finds in favor of a motion by the prosecution, it's generally a good thing. If the prosecution asked for the records to be sealed, and the judge denied that request, and that caused the defense to have reason to appeal the eventual outcome of the case, you'd be saying the judge fucked up by fighting the prosecution's wishes.

You sir have no idea what shit you spew from your pie hole. I worked on the job in the late 60's, 70's, 80's up to the mid 90's. Tactical, Task Force and detective division in Area 4 for over 18 years, almost 15 in Violent Crimes. There were many States Attorneys where were very cooperative with the police. Never bring a bad case for review, either work harder on it or let it go as a misdemeanor.

Get you shit together, present a good case to the Felony Review ASA and have the home number of their supervisor in your file. Felony Review had a few that like to reject good cases, but their supervisors knew you and your quality of work, there was no problem in approving charges.' Mos to those new to Felony Review just cale out of 1st Municipal (misdemeanor courts). It took a few cases to gain their respect, or their bosses let them know we were not selling some bullshit case. Respect is earned both ways.

Going to Branch 66 in the morning those ASAs knew you and they reviewed the file and interviewed the victim and used the Grand Jury to further the case especially with a tender aged child. Trial assistants knew you and your reputation for bringing a good case.

For those thar remember the ASA Gang Unit and the group that put the El Rukins out of business along with other gangs. All good guys. Tom Epach, Irv Miller, Wayne Meyer, Rick Boueke, just to name a few. We were all on the same side trying to put the bad guys in jail. Oh, and I knew Angela Petrone and her father years ago. She was a good ASA and her father was a good judge. We were friends and worked together on many cases.

So to say they never were friends, you have no knowledge just spewing hate and bullshit. Easy to dismiss people and lump them into the same pile. You missed a lot during your time on the job if you feel that way. Sadly, the current members of the CPD do not have that partnership that we had.

To the unpublished moron:

Why would we "retract" an opinion?

Did your seatmate on the short bus tell you that was a thing?

this ain't one of them. there's alot about this case that's fucked up and while I understand anyone in that office isn't our friend per se I think having knowledge of this case this was the right thing to do. all will be seen after this summer.

All the negative comments are from people that don’t go to court or don’t get court orders signed regularly. If you went to court on a reg basis on more then your one rock drop case, then you would know who the good judges are. You would know who regularly signs search warrants for the Officers and Detectives. And maybe, you would understand the legal maneuvering to seal these records , which will be made public during the trial. There is no cover up, except to help the case. -SEISER
