As the Hamas-hole protests keep spreading across the nation, it was inevitable they end up here at some point. They've been setting up "camps" at various campuses, having outside agitators coach the willing and ignorant into chanting, marching, provoking and lawbreaking.
After "negotiating" for hours (mistake) and allowing provocations to go unanswered (another mistake), CPD was finally authorized to make arrests after giving three warnings (yet another mistake).
And it actually went pretty well. The useful idiots who were facing student sanctions left, leaving the dedicated arrestees behind, who were taken into custody, minimal muss-and-fuss, processed and released with no bail (of course). We didn't hear of any serious injuries to police, but...
(there's always a "but...")
We're sure there were observers on both sides, and the agitators were taking copious notes, about procedures, processing, transporting, releasing, etc. What they do with the info is CPD's problem moving forward.
Police are reactionary by design. And a mostly tame demonstration forces us to reveal our tactics in advance. Now, forewarned and forearmed, the protestors can alter their tactics and force the police into unplanned circumstances, which will reduce effectiveness and (possibly) cripple responses.
That's simple a fact and all we can do is warn about it, to temper overreactions that will look bad, will look improper and will be portrayed in the worst possible light.
Be careful, be smart, stick together.

Peaceful demonstrations have never done anything. Anyone who believes a demonstration changes anything on the other side of the world, or anywhere, is a complete moron. Will the US stop sending money to its allies because a bunch of unwashed idiots cried at a college campus? Nope. Sorry off topic, but needs to be told what the commander of Area 2 Detectives is doing, she is having standup spring inspection for any Detectives that did not attend Saint Jude on Sunday. Before you give me shit about not attending, I have 30 years on the job and have made just about every single one of them only missing when it interfered with a family milestone such a graduation, which was my case, I had 1 kid graduate College in 1 state and had to pickup and move out another kid from college in a different state all last weekend, which was my rdo. I would full understand if detectives wore their dress blues for st Jude and attending st Jude in lieu spring inspection but detectives wear business attire. So why force detectives to wear their dress blues for a scrutinized Spring inspection??? It’s almost like she is taking it personal that people didn’t go. You want me to bring it and you inspect it fine, but to put it on? I’ll be honest that dress uniform ain’t fitting me and will probably fall apart if I put it on. If morale couldn’t get any lower in A/2 unit under her command, she is the biggest micromanager I’ve worked for in 30 years. She said no one can now work overtime without her permission. Can’t wait until she leaves or I retire. What a way to end a career, under a tyrant.

I beg to differ (slightly). I remember immigrants from the Baltic states protesting in '91 & demanding that the U.S. recognize their independence from the Soviet Union. Beforehand, nothing. Afterwards (and granted, some who's who rubbing elbows with Dxon, Dailey, Durbin, etc.) & it actually happened. Did protesting peacefully have any effect, by itself? I don't know, but I don't think it hurt. That said, I don't necessarily disagree with the much of rest of your post, although I don't refer to someone who disagrees with me as "a complete moron", nor "worthless and clueless." Now if force has to be used, then we have to use force. I have 23 years on the job. The first 20 years was all on the streets as a beat officer. The last 3 years I'm working the desk. I probably used force 3-5 times in my whole career.

I have to comment on your confession, I find it incredible. Some of us who spent their whole careers as a beat officer in shit districts have used force 3-5 times in one tour of duty, maybe even in one incident.
If the force used is justified, so be it, that doesn’t make a cop a coward abusing authority. Just enjoy your nice cushy spot, shut your trap, and consider yourself lucky to have had such a sheltered career up to this point.

No it hasn’t, at least not in the detective division. I’ve been a detective 22 years and worked in3 different areas, it has always been if you can’t attend you would have to show your dress uniform not wear it.

She's the Commander. If she wants to do a stand up inspection for those that did not attend St. Jude, then she can do a stand up inspection. I've worked in different districts and units where both stand up inspections and show up inspections were done. It's all up to the Commander.
Started in 011, 015, mass transit and now I work in a nice district at the desk. Look, at the end of the day, I don't like some cops who abuse their authority. Go do your job, use force if necessary, shoot someone if necessary. But those who abuse their authority make every other police officers jobs more difficult to do.

Anybody who in in 11 or 15 for twenty years and only has 3-5 uses of force, such as a take down, was flat out a dogging it. And not just dogging it, like borderline dereliction of duty. You honestly have nothing to be proud of. You clearly have some pocket juice as evident by your Mass Transit spot. You're such a fucking mule that Mass Transit was too much for you? How many case reports did you generate in your time there?
