Reminder - St Jude's March
St Jude's has been moved back to Michigan Avenue after many years.
That means parking is going to be next to impossible and we aren't sure how many Districts were arranging buses to transport marchers.
We're wondering what everyone is wondering:
- Why?
On one hand, parking was free and it was always nice to visit the Police Memorial every year. The open space made hanging out and finding old friends a bit easier with elbow room to visit.
On the other, we always felt it was a bit out of sight, whereas Michigan Avenue - even on a Sunday morning - was a powerful backdrop to thousands of cops marching. We were there one year when a tourist from Europe asked what was going on. When informed it was a Memorial March, he gazed up and down the street and asked, "But then who is watching the rest of the City?"
As we become more aged and more cynical. we have to wonder if this is an effort to reduce attendance what with the no parking and the inability to visit with friends afterwards.

They are counting on revenue from parking garages.
Thwarting this is easy, though pesky, and, potentially risky.
Buses loaded with attendees make for tempting targets, as european nations have come to know.

I used to drop the car in a "No Parking" area a block away with my wife behind the wheel.
Then, walk up to the District Secretary house mouse who would check everyone in, then say, I forgot my gloves or hat, go back to the car and go off to the Old Country Buffet with the family.

Retirement is better, especially down here in Tennessee.

I have to say, one of the more enjoyable parts of the parade was returning from the March with the highest beat number. That officer didn't have to pay for breakfast.
At least when it was at the Goldstar we didn’t have to worry about parking our personal vehicles, residential parking and keeping people away from their homes. Now everything seems to be de optics. To h-ll with the people that can’t get to their homes.
It is meant to be an optical illusion. People will see coverage of the march and think that the place is overflowing with cops which hides the real manpower crisis the department is now facing.
I marched in St Jude’s 3 times as a police explorer when it was on Michigan Ave. All I can say is wow. A sight like no other. An experience I’ll never forget. The respect. The comradere. The tradition. The sea of blue taking over the mag mile.
Respect. For our fallen in BLUE.
I guess I won’t be going. No parking. Terrible location.
So why why was it moved
Now I have to worry. Where to park
Will my car get broken into
Will I get stuck up going back to my car
Since I will have to park so far away
Soldier field parking was secure and safe
Easy to get to

To honor our lost brothers and sisters

I love how humanity itself is endangered, with the way the police drive on the Kennedy to get there . Dozens of people in full dress uniform going at least 100mph through traffic.
There is tons of free/designated parking on all the cross streets feeding Michigan Ave and there will be bike teams watching your cars. There’s plenty to complain about in this department but this is not one of them. Go honor our fallen.
I remember the police from all over making their way to Plumbers Hall for breakfast. Then Ron Sodini shut it down because off duty officers would partake in a few mimosas provided by the Sgt’s. Little did he know, 012 was the only district that couldn’t walk straight, thanks to the late MM and her fantastic Bloody Mary’s consumed on the UIC bus. It was a great time. God Bless You All.

I always thought the Michigan Ave thing was a bad idea. Putting CPD out there always made them a potential and easier target. G-d only knows what evil lurks on and beneath our city streets.

I remember when they moved the march from Michigan Av and the fuss that coppers made back then. Ohh, they are disrespecting us, putting us in the back, out of sight. Now you're complaining. Suck it up Cupcake, quit the damn whining.
The last few times the march was on Michigan Avenue, protesters caused problems to take the attention off of the march. It’s difficult for protesters to cause problems at the Goldstar, because there are only two ways to ingress and egress (12th Street and 18th Street). We blocked the tunnels and bridge.. We had full control and a very few residents were inconvenienced. Unfortunately our Exempts don’t think that far ahead. Last year officers vehicle were towed in the downtown area during a detail. At least Soldier Field has parking.
I will say I got to march a few times when it was on Michigan Ave, it should have NEVER been taken off of Michigan Ave. I remember tourist from all over the country and world would come out to watch us march. The taking off of Michigan Ave was a big F/.U from King Daley himself. His train of thought was the inconvenience that we were causing to the poor tourist, which was nonsense. We used to park anywhere as long as we left within a reasonable time of the parade ending. I'm glad it has been brought back to Michigan Ave, sure they have to work out the parking situation, it is the first year, hopefully the parking garages get smart and give us a discounted rates, or just allow us to park anywhere as long as we do not block traffic.

It is clear you must not have been born and/or raised in Chicago. In this town, it is not unnatural to wonder about the actions of the man behind the curtain. It is one of the sports in our sports town. I always thought it should have remained on Michigan. I thought relegating us to the back 40 was to keep us out of the public eye and limit the number of people inconvenienced. Glad to see it back.if every asshole and their brother can block off huge parts of the city, so can we.
It’s confirmed on FB $ X - Twitter…….the police hating protesters are coming there in droves (a lot might still be down there after another night of wilding, along with the Jew & America-hating protesters to cause chaos and God only knows what else. We’re gonna be easy targets. God forbid they do a security sweep of Michigan Ave prior to thousands of cops marching into what might be complete chaos, with all of us unprepared (no vests, helmets, most of us only carrying our smallest guns with no extra ammo, etc). We are public enemy #1 thanks to each of our garbage, elected officials. Hopefully I’m just watching too much footage of what’s currently happening across the country, and tomorrow will be a good day. But as I said before, keep an eye on the crowd and get outta there quick after the march……and hope that I just drank too much coffee before I just started my 1st watch shift and have been watching too many movies with similar plots. I enjoyed the opportunity to have marched on Michigan Ave but that was a different time. Nowadays, our safety first and for the love of God- its for us to remember, honor and never forget. Hopefully we don't become soft targets in the open, exposed streets of the oncr glorious downtown's, Michigan Ave.
The march is so damn early in the morning. There is plenty of parking downtown.
Go to church afterward. Then go have breakfast with your loved ones, be it family or friends.

It’s only moved this year. Special Olympics opening ceremony is this year on same day at Soldier Field.
I’m glad to see the St Jude March is back on Michigan ave.,it should never have been moved. As far as parking is concerned, read the information put out, there’s plenty or take the bus from the district. Marching in honor of our fallen officers is a privilege that I’m humbled to be part of.

When the march was on Michigan Ave, I always worried that a car would come driving down the street and rapid gunfire out the windows would take out dozens of police lined up along the buildings on both sides of the street. Not only the offenders shooting out of a moving car, but potential return fire also hitting PO's. I always felt like a sitting duck on Michigan Ave.

It’s confirmed on FB $ X - Twitter…….the police hating protesters are coming there in droves (a lot might still be down there after another night of wilding, along with the Jew & America-hating protesters to cause chaos and God only knows what else. We’re gonna be easy targets. God forbid they do a security sweep of Michigan Ave prior to thousands of cops marching into what might be complete chaos, with all of us unprepared (no vests, helmets, most of us only carrying our smallest guns with no extra ammo, etc). Everyone keep their head on a swivel…….this is most cops they’ll ever get in one place where 99% of us will be unprepared if any of them really are crazy enough to pull a Boston Marathon attack or the Las Vegas tragedy (how many high rises and hotels are we walking directly under tomorrow……every single potential shot into our marching ranks would hit one of us targets. Every cop would have to flee the scene, get back to their districts and gear up…..that would take hours. Call me paranoid, but the family is staying home for the March. And it would be perfect timing with the DNC coming up and the whole country of lib-tarded youth currently engaged in violent protests to support Hamas (for no other reason than “just because”. We are public enemy #1 thanks to each of our garbage, elected officials. Hopefully I’m just watching too much footage of what’s currently happening across the country, and tomorrow will be a good day. But as I said before, keep an eye on the crowd and get outta there quick after the march……and hope that I just drank too much coffee before I just started my 1st watch shift and have been watching too many movies with similar plots. Sorry to burst your bubble, but this was 100% easier to get to/leave from any parade I went to by Soldier Field. No waiting to exit or enter lake shore dr exit, no waiting to exit parking lot etc. They should promote it a little more ahead if time so citizens know what's going on and possibly come down and support

When the march was on Michigan Ave, I always worried that a car would come driving down the street and rapid gunfire out the windows would take out dozens of police lined up along the buildings on both sides of the street. Not only the offenders shooting out of a moving car, but potential return fire also hitting PO's. I always felt like a sitting duck on Michigan Ave.

Stop the whining, bitching and being scaredy-cats to March on Michigan Ave. It’s not about us. It’s all about each and every Officer that has payed the Ultimate sacrifice. Did you not see their family members sitting to your left when you marched. The families carry their lost every single day.

I was proud to be on Michigan Ave today.
I was proud to see our younger officers marching and experiencing the March like it used to be.
I was proud of our men and woman in blue when I saw the Gold Star families watching all of us so intently and with appreciation that we were NOT forgetting their loved ones.
To the whiners, Parking was fine. Streets were blocked by streets and San. To guard against a runaway vehicle that might try to plow into the parade. People were walking on the sidewalks, taking it all in watching so many officers with curiosity maybe, but it seemed to me with smiles, appreciation and a lot of thank you.
I don’t like the mayor either, but he was there and we were on Michigan Avenue where we belong not in some park hidden away.
God bless the fallen officers and and their families . I hope that those who were not able to go can make every effort to go next year
Apparently people didn’t realize there was a mass at 10:30 at Holy Name commemorating St. Jude Memorial March. They had the front half of the church reserved for officers and Gold Star Families. Three officers were present. A letter from the Cardinal was read in gratitude to the police, and the liturgy focused on the police. Shame nobody was there to appreciate it.
So at 10PM I look on WGN9 & WFLD32 websites and see that WGN9 covers the St Jude parade but WFKLD32 has no mention of it. Tanx for nuttin' FOX.

God bless our fallen. I arrived around 7:15 and had no problem parking toward the end of the parade route. While I do love the memorial, it was nice to be back on Michigan Ave. We need all the support we can get.

How many minutes did you work the street in a slow district before hiding inside for the rest of your career? If Michigan Avenue scares you, I can't see how you could actually be the police anywhere in this city.
That was alright marching on Michigan Ave. Thanks and proud to be there. Parking was much easier than I thought it would be.
