Is this one of those famous "room to destroy" moments that dems love to embrace?
We're thinking the City is negotiating from a position of weakness:
City attorneys are trying to strike a deal with groups suing to protest near the United Center during the Democratic National Convention, with a little more than two months to go before Chicago becomes the center of the political universe for a few days in August.
City Hall previously tried to steer the protests three miles east of the United Center to Columbus Drive in Grant Park. But city attorney Andrew Worseck told a federal judge Thursday that it now plans to offer them a route that is “United Center adjacent.” He said he planned to make the offer in a “confidential conversation,” and he did not disclose the details of the path in court.
It’s unclear whether that new proposal will be acceptable to the groups that claim the city has unconstitutionally denied them their right to protest where their voices might be heard by national political leaders, including President Joe Biden.
Mashed-potato brain won't be listening and even if he was anywhere near Chicago, he wouldn't remember any of it. After yesterday's debacle at Normandy, even the most ardent dem morons are seeing the writing on the wall.
Now they have to decide how racist it will look to bypass the VP and draft someone else.

I agree with the comment about officers needing to call in sick for the week of that convention! Let them fend for themselves when protestors start attacking them. Demonrats hate the police. So,I don't understand why police officers would risk their lives for politicians who hate them.

Why is the city “negotiating” with protesters whose sole purpose is to disrupt? The city attorney should tell them that they have the right of free speech and they can exercise that right at Grant Park (or wherever). Period! Anyone blocking traffic or disrupting the free flow of vehicles or pedestrians or business at the United Center will be arrested and charged. Period! Is there nobody in charge in Chicago who has some cojones?
As for creepy Joe, they really need to dump him and Kamala, but who would they choose to replace them? Mooch? Newsome? Gretchen Witless the Lockdown Queen?
People assembling in very large numbers is a public safety issue. Such assemblies are not covered by the first amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,..... or the right of the people to peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
so until the are no longer peaceful it is a 1st amendment issue, don't be fooled by the administration and wind up as part of a federal court trial in which the 1st question they ask will be "officer were you given written directives and classes on the first amendment?" "yes I was". The next sound you hear will be the sink as the dept washes its hands of responsability "hey he was instructed not to do that he is on his own for damages."
We might have all read how that convention might be "virtual" this year.

The Secret Service doesn’t believe we have the numbers to control ingress/egress from the venue in 2 separate facilities. When pressed the city had no answer. The Secret Service Agent in charge had to walk out of the room twice he was so frustrated and asked who is actually in charge. It’s never been this bad ever and it’s going to get dramatically worse. You will be attacked, and then the City will abandon you when you defend yourselves. No, that’s not true. The City will pile on with the CCSA and others and try to skin you alive.
Let me say this a different way: You will be physically attacked by people who are paid to hurt you or kill you. When you protect yourselves — or even when you don’t — you will be locked up and your family will be attacked at school, at work, and in the media. You could lose your job, your freedom, and your family, to this.

1) Recommend that you be establishing the basis for calling out sick for an extended period if necessary; since from what I can see your political chain of command will throw you to the wolves reflexively,
2) Then call out sick as the convention gets there.

Prediction: DNC convention will be conducted largely as zoom-call, with Biden and Harris calling-in rather than arriving in person. Most DNC delegates who can still get their personally-paid hotel reservations refunded will stay home. Only DNC delegates who actually arrive and stay in Chicago are those stuck with unrefundable hotel reservations. Protesters arrive, mostly camping-out or couch-surfing, and riot ensues, with little DNC audience but plenty of collateral damage to Chicagoans' property and personal time/comfort.
Chicagoans would be wise to exit Chicago altogether for DNC week.
