Who's Watching the Cameras?

Say what you want about ShotSpotter. When the alarms go off, there are dozens of eyes and cameras trained on the area - wherever ShotSpotter is based (they and their systems determine if the sound is an actual gunshot) and then cameras all over the SDSC rooms.

So who is watching the hundreds of cameras trained on Chicago landmarks and potential terror targets?

  • Buckingham Fountain is closed “until further notice” after vandals dyed the Grant Park landmark’s pool water red and spray-painted messages opposing the war in Gaza overnight.

Chicago Park District officials announced the closure Saturday morning, saying the city agency will perform maintenance to restore the fountain to its previous condition.

The amount of dye needed to color the 1.5 million gallons of water that circulate through Chicago's most recognizable landmark doesn't just come in one gallon containers. Not even close. So who's watching to see maybe half-a-dozen people hauling two gallons each or on the outside, two of three five-gallon buckets?

We're going to guess, "No one."

And guess what that means in August? Gauge the breeze, meet up a few blocks from the United Center, dump buckets of ammonia and bleach in a few dumpsters and let Mother Nature drift those clouds into the Near West Side. Or something worse.

Somebody got some esplainin' to do.

Buckingham Fountain, featured in the opening credits of "Married with Children". The show aired in Germany, and German tourists in Chicago would refer to it as "Al Bundy Fountain".

Maybe the message they are trying to convey is, “The city streets are bleeding red” because of the gang violence.

The quantities of liquid ammonia and liquid bleach would have to be so large as to fill a construction sized dumpster for the reaction fumes to not be quickly dispersed by even a mild breeze. Not a good idea to be breathing in close proximity to, still, not likely to linger or be not diluted quickly by atmospheric movements.

Thus, no harm in posting this well known nasty combination of common household cleaning chemicals.

Now, that "or something worse" is on the minds of both those who strive to prevent such an event and those who plot to cause such an event.

Any terrorist event using atmospheric motion as the carrier of a toxic/noxious gaseous nature would seem to require a high risk to the actors engaging in handling any substances which could produce sufficient gaseous mass to be effective.

Incendiary substances, producing massive quantities of toxic/noxious materials might be a bit less risky to handle.

It might be reasonable to presume that chemicals of this type of toxicity/noxiousness are tightly controlled.

It might also be not reasonable to presume that this tightly controlled equals completely unattainable to terrorists.

Perhaps requiring ALL democrat politicians to be body present during the entire time of their convention would be a win/win, whatever occurs.

I heard Israel is getting rid of its military and all weapons, and immediately ceasing all military action against Hamas, because some clowns turned water red in a Chicago fountain. It worked! The brave protest has saved countless lives! Now Hamas can get back to murdering and violating human rights without interference.

What’s even more likely is the cameras are not sufficient to adequately monitor all the hotspot zones at the dnc. Theyll have to bring in surveillance equipment and teams of people to monitor them if they hope to have adequate surveillance. Who’s going to pay for the surveillance?

This was harmless. You’d be surprised how much real important infrastructure is unmanned and under-surveilled. Who’s watching or stopping anyone from accessing the electrical stations, the internet substations, the cellular towers? Nobody is guarding them. Nobody can surveil them 24/7. This was obviously planned and ultimately harmless. What will happen when it will actually do real harm next time.

Better now to have someone be watching the 3 cribs that take in the water filtered for the Chicago area. The cribs are 2 miles out in Lake Michigan and supply about 5 million area residents with fresh filtered water via the Jardine Filtration Plant. I remember in the early 1970s when some junior college kids tried to poison the city water system.

I worried a lot about that kind of thing after 911. Wouldn't be hard to create a mass casualty event using pretty common materials. Heck, look what McVeigh did in Oklahoma City with fertilizer and kerosine. Anyway, they do have some pretty sophisticated software that can track people after dark (using infrared cameras) and detect what they're up to simply by their motions, the time of night, etc. Probably can be used from drones too. But we don't have the force to follow up on suspicious activity. And, more importantly, the pro-crime ACLU and their minions on the progressive left and in Conehead's administration would scream bloody murder about the "civil rights" of terrorists to cause mayhem. (That's why he's pulling Shotspotter even though people will be bleeding out into the streets in a few months only to be found cold and stiff in the morning.) So, we just hope for the best until it's too late.

Their ideas were interesting but not viable without some large backing of money and material. I was the Sgt on the raid of the basement apartment they were using as an amateur chem lab.

Interesting factoid, Jim Rochford learned of our investigation and came along and swung the hammer, and no the press was not along on the raid.

Thinking back to '68 the most iconic pictures of violence were around grant park. The Gen. Logan statue, the Band Shell. The Bridges over the IC tracks. If you wanted a re-creation for this year, with an eerie homage to then, there's plenty of stages for this new play. All we need is a director. Maybe, some old SDS Weather Underground retired guy. Anybody know one?

Since the Marxists running chicago want to defund the police and hire migrants cartel leaders to do the job Americans with half a brain no longer want to do. These brown shirt activist and DNC violence interruptors could be given ring doorbell body cameras to hang around their necks and patrol the perimeter. After all the wepaonized justice system is no longer about law and order and justice. ITS about taking pictures and using the pictures to create a narrative of fear that can be used as a tool to remove freedoms for our safety.

Wearing a ring doorbell camera around your neck like a body cam because the camera is activated by motion detection AND if you configure the door bell portion right ringing the bell could alert the social workers to respond to the guy with a gun issue to talk about the gunman feelings and if they hated their parents growing up.

Come to think of it the ring door bell as a bodycam since they have two way audio the social workers don't even have to leave their offices or COPA if they are needed. It would be like an on-demand real-time zoom call to address crime..

The call takers can be AI bots first for screening then passed over to the actual.call taking people located in offices in India

It doesn't take as much dye as anyone things to do this amount of damage. Do some research on leak testing dyes to see how much it actually takes. I bet the miscreants who did this just did that to determine how much dye was needed. On a brighter note, does this red dye mean Chicago is turning into a "red" conservative city? No one's watching the cameras in CTA trains and stations, either - people who could and would dispatch police when they saw trouble brewing. Or just rules being brazenly broken. I've griped about this in my local newspaper; also suggested that each L line be designated as a police beat, with effective police patrols. CTA maybe doesn't have enough money to get rule enforcement, and Chicago doesn't have enough police, either. I've been able to ride Metra more often and it sure is a lot better.

It's the railroad tankers, now truck tankers full of chlorine passing thru downtown to the plant.peeps were freaked about that after 911 so they put Niles Sherman and some hdo laborers and drivers in charge of security.
