Lake Pollution

Is anyone really surprised?

  • There aren’t many shipwrecks off Chicago’s coast anymore, but the city’s lakeshore has its own kind of ghostly marine curiosity: tons of rideshare bikes submerged in Lake Michigan’s shallow shorelines.

Now, a group of dedicated Lake Michigan swimmers are taking it upon themselves to bring the sunken rides back up with them.

The group is known as The Divvy Fishers Society and was started by Glenn Rischke, an unsung diving partner of the Great Lake Jumper, the local man known for his four-year streak of plunging into the lake every morning. Rischke said he started the cleanup crew in a last-ditch effort to “advocate for better waters.”

In Amsterdam (population 920,000), they pull over 15,000 bikes out of the canals ANNUALLY, so you can bet there are probably a few thousand here. And not just the lakefront. We've heard there is Pod Camera footage of hundreds of bikes being tossed off of various bridges over the past few years by disgruntled yutes. No one is bothering to recover those.

The bikes should not be funded by the city with this crap going on. They are polluting the waterways.

Jason Lach Is a self serving stroke and bonfire liar. The fire department has never once pulled 30 divy bikes out in one day. NEVER ONCE. There is not a single person who works under him who likes or respects him.

There's a whole collection of Divy bikes in the homeless encampments on LWD. It's probably easier and safer to get them out of the lake.

So, for the sake of clarity:

1. Divy rents bikes, via kiosks with electronic card swipe payment, debit or credit. This manner of payment gives Divy both payment and deposit info which, reliably, Divy will dun the renter if bike is not returned to any kiosk. Thus, any Divy bikes found in the lake have either been paid for by renter dunning, or were stolen, from kiosk, from renter or ???

2. Those multitudes of Divy bikes seen abandoned here and there, what is that about? Stolen? Surely not abadoned by the renters, who risk being dunned for entire value of bike.

3. And what about those scooters? No scooters found in the lake? Those are left wherever the batteries run out of juice, just begging to be picked up by the scrappers.

4. Any Divy bikes used in muggings? Ride by muggings? Drive by/ride by shootings? Dope couriers? Were their any celebrators at the pride parade riding Divy bikes/scooters?

Was this Divy inundation brought to us by tiny dancer? After groot and now this putz, memories of mildly less retarded times are fading.

Chicago taxpayers are on the hook for them. It was not supposed to cost public money. It was supposed to be all private Rahm brothers corporate money.

We were lied to.

How does Divvy make any money if all their bikes keep getting stolen, lost, hidden? Is the city
in some manner PAYING the cost of this? Are we in a contract with Divvy that the cost of having
this program for “citizens” comes out of this city’s budget? Another parking meter boondoggle?

Divy bikes seen in Dolton and Riverdale, sometimes painted over. Nobody cares.
Cook County Forest Preserve District tried leaving bikes in a Riverdale preserve; they disappeared forever in a week or so, and were never replaced.

Something I just learned: GPS badges don't work underwater. Probably have to use boats and sonar. Make the Divvy people pay for it a couple times a year.

I always see various "yuths" chilling on Divvy bikes, with much junk attached with them. I'm
confident they are all properly rented. The rental meter must be going on these long term riders.

To the poster with the list of questions, Divvy bikes were easily stolen, from the racks or from customers. They were then used to commit other crimes. The scooters have also been stolen and tossed in the lake and river. As for the Divvy Fishers Society, you could've been the Divvy Divers. Fire whoever came up with the name, because that's a missed opportunity.

Divvy is one of the worst things for this city. Anyone seen numbers on how much it actually helps tourism, commuters, traffic, eh hem greenhouse gasses? How much tax funding goes down the toilet to fund this nonsense? Of course you don’t see those numbers widely reported, because my guess is it’s mostly a wash. It helps only two groups 1. Entities getting rich off the climate change agenda 2. the same element that is a nuisance in the city no matter where they are. You know, the Pains in the ass who used to have to do a bit a walking to wreak havoc outside their neighborhood now can just steal a Divvy. Lakefront pollution be damned we’ve got to reduce those carbon emissions.

Is that the same Scott Goodman, former Sterling Bay- Lincoln Yards- TIF grifter who then bought Lincoln Yards adjacent property for his new public sector grift company Fairpoint? The grifter that just keeps getting and getting and getting.

I saw a divy bike in an alley with a fat rat sitting on the seat, trying to figure out how to eat it.

Or maybe that rat was just catching the scent of one of the ones riding the bike.

I refrained from inquiring.
