All that planning, all those cancelled days off, all that OT money?
Didn't do diddly preventing an evening of mayhem:
- Mass arrests took
place late Sunday night on the city's North Side as people were
reportedly jumping onto cars and throwing bottles at police overnight,
hours after the city's Pride parade.
The Chicago Pride parade ended around 1 p.m. Sunday, and the mass arrests took place beginning at about 1:23 a.m. in the 3000 block of North Clark Street near Halsted in Lakeview, police said, meaning there was a 10 to 11 hour separation between Pride celebrations and these incidents.
You have to love how Channel 7 emphasizes the "10 to 11 hour separation" attempting to disassociate the parade from the mayhem, regardless of the fact that this mini-riot has been happening every single year for the last ten years or more.
We will admit that most of the parade goers are peaceful bystanders, but they're reinforced by a sizeable contingent of drunks looking for problems along with a huge number of opportunists looking to assault, mug, beat people and destroy property.
A bunch of cops got injured, too, and we're imagining they'll be out of action through August.
Any truth to the rumor that the feds had observers at OEMC and were appalled at the complete ineptitude of the supervisory ranks as the mini-riot unfolded?

Even if Pride Month isn’t your thing, if you’ve ever worked it, had to pass by it, or visit near it, you have to recognize that none of the people participating in the Mayhem are interested in the “pride” of being a part of that community. It’s the same assholes who cause mayhem wherever they go. I don’t know when it happened but you never saw this nonsense 20 years ago- not to this extent.

If you hate gay people and want a reason to cancel the parade, then you might as well be fair and cancel all parades until the ghetto rats learn how to behave. As far as the DNC, this entire event is federal. Thus, it is recommended that the responsibility of overseeing event security should lie with the US military, while local law enforcement should focus on ensuring the safety of citizens within their respective areas. This decision is not complicated at all. It was a mistake to assign the Chicago Police Department (CPD) the task of managing security for this event. Considering the military's expertise in dealing with terrorists and combatants, it would be wise to deploy reserve troops. Moreover, it is advisable to dissolve the CPD from this event and proceed with the Democratic National Convention (DNC) with the reserves. The military is fully capable of effectively handling any disruptions caused by marginalized individuals, which can serve as a valuable learning opportunity for the anti-Israel, pro-Gaza, and Antifa organizations that will be the most likely problem at the event. The armed forces have a zero-tolerance policy towards their illegal ad terrorist actions.

They have to put Supervisors with Officers they already know. Makes no sense having a Sgt from 004 supervising Officers from 025 or Vice versa.
I didn’t understand the logic of having platoons of 200 plus Officers and then taking say 50 Officers away from the Platoon and putting them in a hot spot. Now the Lt doesn’t know where his people are. They should have roaming teams to respond to hot spots or Officers calling for help. They depleted the platoons and were subsequently overrun. The point of the large platoon is to be in a group of 200 so you don’t have 10-1’s called and Officers hurt again.
There has to be clear communication of who is in charge. Two Commanders butted heads. First Commander says send them east the second Commander says send them west. Even if they’re the same rank there has to be chain of command for the DNC. How about the Commander with the most seniority has the final call. Otherwise Snelling should decide who he thinks is more competent and tell everyone if there’s a disagreement we’re going with Commander Joe Smiths decision. It was pathetic they both wanted to be the top dog for their egos.
If DNC is anything close to this we need to be allowed to wear helmets if not the full riot gear. If an Officer is hit in the head with a bottle they could be dead or seriously hurt for the rest of their lives. Any lawyers reading this think the top brass could be sued for telling Officers not to wear helmets and are then hit in the head with a brick or bottle.
Platoons should be 75 to 100 Police. 200 doesn’t make sense because they just separated everyone anyways and then had no supervision. 75 or 100 means we can cover more intersections. Needed to have 6 roaming teams of 50 or so coppers to respond to things instead of separating platoons.

I worked there many years and it’s a shit show but never as bad as this year. Listen, last we most of us were down there for 20 or more hours. This year day guys got released about 4pm. Night people about 3am. I’ll take working 10 or 11 hours over 22. Yeah they were acting the fool but it was less chaotic than years past. Last year we had nobody to help and the “celebrators” decided when the post parade was over.. this year we were actually able to get the crowds to leave by large numbers of officers and implementing the mass arrest. As a blue shirt I’m happy with it. Way more help than last year. Last year we had what we had and that was it. This year when we needed help we got it and we got it quick and with a large amount of officers. Then the crowds got pushed. Last year we couldn’t push a thing and lost control of every corner of the neighborhood. This year we kept it contained to certain spots.

Pride was only the second time all year we had an RDO cancelled. In 2020 we worked like three months in a row. Toughen up and stop being so miserable. If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this job that remains constant… don’t make plans for NYE, Memorial Day, 4th, Bud Billiken and Labor Day. I’ve worked in tac and units for most of my career, I’ve never had a 4th off. Accept it and get the time and a half. I spoil the crap out of my family the rest of the year with little trips annd big trips together and we make it up with quick trips or during the week during the summer and uneffected weekends off. What did u guys think when you became the police??? Weekends off, straight days and all holidays off???? Must be one of the be the change kids who want to be inside after 2 years… welcome to the real world and the life of being a police officer in Chicago.

-since establishments are complaining- try to get as many bars, restaurants and liquor streets to close at 9 PM, for their safety.
- have hundreds of meter maids from the Department of Finance in the area to conduct heavy parking ticket enforcement. (The assembly and the uniforms along are intimidating). Violators finding out the next day that they have to pay parking tickets will surely reconsider attending the event in the future.
-ensure that Traffic Control Aides are manually operating the traffic lights and conducting heavy parking enforcement, as well.
-Announce (months ahead) that the bridges will be raised at a certain time, and have streets & san to raise the bridges early in the day, before everyone start drinking. (This sends a strong message to the party goers that need to get back to the Metra and Union Station after the event. (Most of agitator) are from the suburbs and other local states.
-It’s a Sunday! Ensure that there are no buses in the immediate area. Make everyone walk a few blocks to catch the bus. For years, violators have acted up in the downtown area and after the party is over, they’ve approached officers crying that they were lost and need to get back to the Metra Station. (Officers please don’t give them a ride to the Union Station or the station to wait for mommy.)
-Ensure that there is absolutely no vehicular ingress or egress at the lake.
-lessen the patrol cars that are stationed in the immediate area, instead use Bike Officers and officers that are on foot. Violators love jumping on top of patrol cars and buses. They hate getting ___ with bikes.
All of these things were used in the past, and they worked. It’s all apart of safety planning.
Remember, the people that run the parade don't want the Police there!
Let the Cop from the Village People handle it.
Stop begging McDermott to come back to be the fall guy. No, that’s Novalez’s and Director Brooks’ job to deal with large crowds and gatherings. If they can’t handle the tasks.. dumped them!

FACT #1: Talley is merit at every rank and has worked inside for the last 15 years. 2: FOIA request how many arrests Talley has made in last 15 years- zero. FACT #3: Why are we always so unprepared for events and they are complete disasters? Answer- merit leadership.
She shouldn’t be allowed to deal with the public. She should be handing out gas masks, I.D cards, Equipment and Supplies, in ERPS, Graphic Arts, Motor Maintenance or somewhere that doesn’t require her to deal with the general public or many officers. Certainly Not True!!! He made us request the doctor’s notes in order to a bump card. The diagnosis, doctor’s signature and photos isn’t enough. He wants the doctor’s notes.
