Tax Hikes! (and a savings opportunity)

All sorts of tax hikes and law changes went into effect yesterday:

  • gas tax up almost two cents a gallon
  • sports betting operator tax increased
  • video gaming tax up again
  • illegals can get DLs

All sorts of things to make life in Illinois and Chicago more expensive.

Along with a chance to save some money, too!

  • Starting Monday, restaurants in Chicago must start paying tipped workers more per a new city ordinance that has sharply divided the restaurant industry and supporters of the law.

The tipped minimum wage is increasing from $9.48 per hour to $11.02. Chicago’s overall minimum wage is also rising, from $15.80 per hour to $16.20 for employers with four or more workers.

In October, the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance to increase the tipped minimum wage by 8% each year for five years until it reaches parity with the city’s standard minimum wage.

Well, if they're paying a "living wage," there's no need to tip any more. Eating out - a rare treat with the post-pandemic Bidenflation price increases - just became less expensive. So thanks for that.

And as tipping decreases, the IRS also thanks you since they won't have to trust you to declare that shady percentage of under-reported cash.

Once an illegal alien obtains a DL a ballot will be harvested.

You can thank Communists Obama and Holder!

Whenever you get an Illinois driver's license, the secretary of state employee will ask if you are registered to vote. If you are not registered, they will register you right then and there by simply checking a box.

So how many illegals will be registered voters?
That is why the government gives illegals drivers license.

That is also why the secretary of state will never fix their broken system. Law enforcement agencies point out the flaws that SOS can easily correct to prevent "false identifications' time and time again. SOS refuses to do anything about it. This is why.

The tipped employees are going to lose money on this. They will want the customer to continue tipping. Both the customer and employees will be unhappy.
Great solution to a non existent problem.

Tips are already included in the bill now so don’t leave a thing do not leave a single dollar on the table nothing zero. Look at your bill next you go out to eat. Look close. That’s why I refuse to tip. It’s so out of hand I stopped in a Schwarma spot I like over on Devon to PICK UP my order. Girl behind the counter flipped over the tablet inquiring if I want to add tip. For what? I like to get ignorant I take those opportunities to say out loud “oh hell no!”.

A new city ordinance also forces employers to give their employees a minimum of five days off and five sick days.

Employees do not deserve anything. You apply for a job and you get whatever the owner gives you. Don't like it? Upgrade your skills and apply for a better job. That is how a free market economy operates.

Unions also should be illegal. Because unions are nothing more than a legal organized mob that harasses and shakes down an employer.

Some restaurants are adding extra for a tip and also surcharges for health insurance and other employee benefits. Some are also charging extra for credit card transactions.

Check your restaurant receipts carefully!!

Nothing stopping restaurants from moving across the borders to the burbs!

Reminds me of the "sugar tax" on soda and other drinks. I would travel a little further to dine out. Chicago's loss is the suburbs gain!!!

The great exodus continues: Fresh IRS data shows Illinois loses residents to 40 other states – Wirepoints

Not only did Illinois lose a net 87,000 residents, but the state also lost the incomes those residents took with them. Illinois gave up a net $9.8 billion in Adjusted Gross Incomes (AGI), with outgoing residents taking with them more than $19.3 billion in AGI, while those moving in only brought in $9.5 billion. The net loss of AGI was also the nation’s third largest

The shock will be devastating for many. Details are in the 2023 Tax Year Bill Analysis released last week by Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas.

Staggering increases are concentrated in the south and southwest suburbs (those south of North Avenue). There, the median residential bill jumped by 19.9%, to $6,117.

Most stunning of all, in 15 south suburbs, 13 of which have majority black populations, median tax bills are jumping by anywhere from 26% to 122%, shown in the chart

I always wondered why the venue offered a place to tip and the high % gratitude slots included? The employer has to make up any short fall of the minimum wage.Thats why they made it seem 20% was the custom not 10% like it’s been for 100years.

I have always believed in tipping for good service, but things have spiraled out of control. There are tip jars at 7-11's and Subway restaurants. I guess tipping the cashiers at Mariano's and Jewel's are next. The more restaurants charge for their food in order to pay the employees, the food will become more expensive and the service will go downhill. Why should the server care when the tip is already built into their salary? If I didn't know any better (or maybe I do), I would believe the CTU members authored this piece of Communist excrement.

Tipped waiters and waitresses did fine for many years, before the transitioned QSR workers learned their communerty do not tip. The elders in failed Johnson's High Community, perpetrated the whines of their minions in an action to force the hand of small business owners to compensate for unqualified QSR transitioners who believe they are due and entitled everything. This is another example of lowering the bar to appease the bottom feeders demanding a living wage. This is a tangled fudge fest at best with the governments hands positioned to reign in fullky. Gotta thank the Obamas for this BS.

Regarding south suburban tax bills: they haven’t hit the mailboxes yet but they’ve been online since Friday.

In Orland Park this is the first bill after our reassessment, My assessed market value went up 113,000, I appealed to board of review and got it lowered 21,000 so a net assessed market value raise of around 92,000. My total tax went up $1,300. Which blows but there rumors it was going to be something like $4,000 final tax increase.

Supposedly the poorer suburbs to east get hammered because they have less businesses.

Shit when I take that comment I posted about the raise in my orland park tax bill and do the percentage it was 21% raise in tax bill, even after getting assessment lowered.

Just like the nearly one sided party system in this state that continues to tell us "we will tax the rich, and help the poor" bs narrative, it's only the middle class that get suckered and the poor. The rich can move up and leave from this non-sense of overtaxing, just like Fatties Gas Tax coming back, fuck this state and fuck our government for making us pay this bs of mismanaging dollars. So no, I'm not tipping, fuck off.

Tip is based on service, but also what they were making. At $2.xx am hour, a tip is necessary. When they make as much as the cook, who probably doesn't have a tip jar, the necessity of a tip is diminished. And yeah, a lot of interviews in California asked the workers if they voted for the 25% increase in pay. They did. Now they are out of a job. I told my kids, if you think a 25% increase is sustainable, you obviously haven't talked to the police, who have gotten 0 to about 2.5 percent raises

Tipping, in any service profession is based on quality of service, a thank you from the one served to the one providing said service, thus, a gratuity, expressing gratitude.

That you choose to include, in your decision to tip, the considering of the base wages of those serving you is merely an indication of your own miserly ways.

The employers of service professionals touted adding tips to billing to avoid raising said base wages. And considered, with valid reasonings, that keeping their costs for base wages low, (thus motivating their service employees, by their dependence upon tips), an effective means of providing pleasing service to customers.

Your point of view on this, that higher wages for service employees means you tip less or not at all, (thus you disregard any appreciation from your miserly self for being pleasingly served), merely negates the earning motivation to provide pleasing service.

You diminish yourself by considering those providing these services to you as merely delivering your food. Maybe you would be pleased if the delivering was done by a roomba.

Last time I checked we are the only country that makes tipping a social norm, and an "expected" gesture to the staff of any establishment or business. Honestly, service charges are used instead of tipping in other countries. ONLY in this shithole and specifically in this shithole state do they try to double and triple tax you on simple items and transactions. I'm not tipping someone when they already "put in" their "wage compensation" through the bill or gives me shitty service. Fuck that. Less government intervention, we'd probably have cheaper prices for goods and services if it wasn't for the shitty politicians pushing insane spending and then the printing of money like it's daily newspapers.
