Off Duty Exchanges Gunfire
- An off-duty Chicago
police officer was involved in a South Side shootout during a robbery
attempt Tuesday morning, according to authorities. The
shooting happened around 5:34 a.m. in the 10800-block of Campbell
Avenue in Morgan Park. It was just starting to get light outside.
The officer - who has not been identified- was getting in his car near 109th Street and Campbell to head to work when a group of suspects approached with guns, blocking him, according to Alderman Matt O'Shea.
More than a dozen shots were fired in the ensuing shootout.
"Luckily the off-duty police officer, a neighbor and a friend, is OK," O'Shea said. "But this is just another reminder - I don't care what neighborhood you live in. We are in a very safe neighborhood. This type of crime is becoming more and more prevalent."
Um....not really a "safe neighborhood" if this sort of thing is becoming "more and more prevalent" aldercreature. It would be a neighborhood "in transition" or perhaps even "decline."

Many of the people in Beverly have blinders on. They don’t realize that their neighborhood is constantly being probed by the criminal element. The neighborhood has been probed by thieves and burglars for decades. The difference today is that the criminals are violent out of control youth. We all know who…the same youth who terrorize the city and suburbs. Nothing is being done to stop this crime by the Democrat leaders. These Democrats are the ones who passed the safe T Act, raised the age for juveniles being charged as adults, and allow this type of behavior to fester. One can only assume this out of control criminal behavior is intentionally being allowed to continue…just as the Communists in South Africa allowed the same thing to occur there when they came to power. I lived more than half of my life in that neighborhood. I moved so that my kids would not fall prey to the criminal soulless youth. Unfortunately, my 80 year old parents refuse to leave.

The area where this incident happened is safer than most areas, but it is not as safe as it once was. This area like so many others has fallen victim to progressive / socialist ideas and policies. Kim Foxx comes to mind when you look at how dangerous this city is. JB Pritzker is another progressive that put his watermark on society by signing the Safe T Act and acted like he was doing everyone in Illinois a favor. It won’t be long before this city has a mass exodus of people who are sick and tired of high crime and high taxes.

I work with this officer in our unit. He is always precise and on point. Never strays from the task on hand so not surprising how well he handled this conflict.
When we came back from England we looked at Beverly. I grew up there. This was 95, an open house at 96th and leavitt. I looked out the kitchen window into the neighbors window to the south. It was the same from the other. No thanks. On top of it my parents had left. My kids would have had to go to a Catholic school. Double no thanks. And I knew the neighborhood was changing. So, we moved to the wide open spaces in Indiana. My kids got a great education in the rolling prairie school district. Good luck people.
The neighborhood isn't changing. The residents are the same. The "people" coming in to commit crime are different. Not different in that they're different from the usual offenders, because it's always young black men. They're different in that they're not residents of the area, not held accountable for their crimes, aren't policed at the rate they used to be, and aren't deterred by the current anti-police and pro-criminal policies in place. The only way to stop them now is "late term abortion" at the hands of their victims. Arm yourselves and fight back when able, and maybe they'll rethink where they do their "shopping."

This officer is one of my best friends and used to be my partner. He’s a great man with an even better family. I’m just glad he’s ok. What has me pissed this morning is youngest had to wake up to gun fire of her dad fighting for his life. Then his wife had to wait for a phone call to make sure he was ok. That phone call had to come from a different phone cause coppa may want his cell phone. Cause the police are the bad guys. Then they all had to worry if he hit someone to make sure he wasn’t going to be charged with a crime or sued. And then the best part his alderman and the hierarchy act like they care about us. The ONLY way you are going to get the residency lifted is by City Council action. An amendment to repeal the ordinance has to be approved by a committee and introduced to and approved by council.
Given the public fixation with police accountability and community relations such a shift is unlikely. Plus it would mean that all City employees would be able to move out.

So many people on here say they moved but never say where? Or are you 1 of the numerous people that are saying "I'm moving" then 5-10 years later still here but still moving?

After 3 armed robberies in a two month stretch, and bozo the clown taking over as presidency, we along 4 other families bounced. Except we got stuck in the city for a few mores and the others left to Will county or out of state. These fools slice through the main routes, east to west dipping into all neighborhoods from 95th down to 115th. At least west of western we have plenty of citizens and off-duty who give a fuck to maintain some defense.

It will NEVER happen no matter what anyone says, then again many coppers left but went to real police agencies and found out 5-10 days medical, accountability, had to wear same uniform so they begged to come back. Be careful what you ask for!

It is absolutely Morgan Park. The people calling it Beverly or West Beverly are people who would rather not say they live in Morgan Park. It's "close enough" so they run with it. It's like the people from the suburbs who "lived in Chicago my whole life." Either way, it's a block or two from the place you're afraid to call it, so does it really fucking matter? If, I am not mistaken Philadelphia had to file a lawsuit to get rid of residency and they won, yes it did take years in the courts.
