We're trying to load this as a audio file - it's a squad car crash in the 010 District and the dispatcher is asking for a sergeant to head to the scene after dispatching an ambulance:
The sergeant gets cranky with the dispatcher, violating at least one FCC regulation, says he's busy with something else and the officers better "learn to lay low." While we agree with the sentiments, they got into a crash.
If you didn't want to be a sergeant, with all of the responsibilities that supervision entails, then why did you take the test and accept the promotion? As for the shortages, grow a pair and deal with it. You can only be one place at one time, so prioritize and handle it.
Here's a hint - the one involving possibly injured Officers takes priority.

I recently heard a few other audios with supervision taking down to everyone like dicks. Sgt we work as a team or someone will get hurt. Someone might not make it home. Sgt that someone could be you! No one will ever give everything they got from someone they don’t respect. What are they teaching in supervisor school. Unbelievable!
Not going say names but I am a Sgt and had something pretty close to that a few years ago. Another Sgt was on the radio over nonsense asking for more cars. It was a bs agg assault where the car fled the scene. I was a different sector and one of my cars went that way to assist the other Sgt. While in route they were in a pretty serious traffic crash. Obviously the second my guys went on the radio, I immediately responded. Both Officers went to the hospital. My guys, my paper and I spent hours with them in the ER. Both ended up IOD for quite some time.
The kicker to the story is the other Sgt who was asking for cars on the radio just rode back into the District after the fleeing car had vanished. Never stopped by the the Officers accident and never offered to assist in any way. The Officers that were hurt were responsing to someone that wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. I saw the referenced Sgt in the station afterwards sitting on a desk kicking their feet, without a care in the world. I was a newer sgt at the time, about 4yrs ago.
That along with a few other incidents made me totally despise the rank that I am. So many Police impersonators doning the white shirt. I have about a year and a half left and I cannot wait to leave.
All the other supervisors cover for us is clown. 010 District shares the zone with 011 district. So everybody knows this guy is an ass clown!
We had a Sgt like that on midnights in 009. He got himself hurt and we were all happy. He is light duty and went to some slow unit.
Must be in a training, it seems to be a lot of them (Sgt’s) these days doing the same crap.

*Respond to scene, make sure everyone is ok. If not request ems.
*Address any allegations made by civilians (i.e. intoxicated member)
*Locate witnesses and attempt to obtain witness statements and driver statement from the other driver.
*ensure bwc and icc video is retained.
*assign car for paper
*review department vehicle crash report and complete your portion with your investigation results.
*complete IOD report if necessary
not that much, its relatively easy. Beat officers will complete a majority of the paperwork. Your just attaching the paperwork to the crash and IOD reports. Unfortunately the same dogs that were officers are the same dogs as sergeants. They do not change, and believe me it sucks working with dog sergeants. Your workload is significantly higher because the officers on the watch will always come to you first. They know who they can turn to in a time of need. Its ok I'd rather have them come to me, so I can keep them out of trouble instead of going to a bum that will burn them. That is why I wholeheartedly believe for you to take a sergeants exam you need to meet a minimum threshold for experience and activity. If you dont have a minimum amount of case reports, arrests reports, ISRs, movers, parkers, this is a big one. How many times have you testified in court? You lack the experience to lead officers plain and simple. So the dogs that make right turns all day and never back up other officers have no business taking a promotional exam. Lets also include all the house mice that have never worked the street, the should be ineligible to take an exam as well. Good police officers make Good sergeants. Plain and simple. Look out for each other out there. Stay safe.

That is not what the consent decree has outlined regarding supervisor to PO supervision and we are how many years into this.

The consent decree says the span of supervision should not exceed 1 supervisor for every 10 members. Having only 1 supervisor working a shift isn't fair to the sergeant or the POs.

This is kind of shocking to me- I never worked in Chicago, but I retired as a cop in another state after nearly 3 decades. The agency I worked for would have shown me the door on the same day if I talked like that on the radio when I was a sergeant. We had our problems, but conduct on the radio was expected to be professional and sergeants were expected to look out for their officers.

About 15 years ago I was a 002nd District sergeant on loan to the 009th District for the tour. Shortly after hitting the streets one of my cars was involved in a crash. They were stopped at a red light and rear-ended by a DUI driver. Sometimes you're not out looking for trouble but it finds you. Why does sergeant assume his car wasn't laying low?

I look at sergeant's lists and wonder why some take the job knowing that they are disorganized, incompetent whiners. As an officer you only have to worry about yourself and your partner, but as a sergeant you are responsible for at least 30 others. You knew that when you took the test and/ or applied for merit stupid mope.

I was a Sergeant and always believed that you needed to take care of the troops. I worked with a few in my unit who were useless. Thier guys always came to the other Sergeant s for help and we're so happy when they got to work on other teams. I never had too much to do with these ball less people.
If a lieutenant gave all his sergeants off and left only one working, that lieutenant better double duty as the wol/dss. how hard is it for the lieutenant to serve the order of protection at the desk? A lieutenant was a sergeant before and knows how to do a sergeants jobs.

There are a lot of issues going on with CPD supervisors. We have CAPS officers getting merit spots, but never working the streets comes back to haunt them quickly. I had one ask me what he does on a request for supervisor call. I said first you go....

And definitely do not let your officers, and the world, know your stress on the radio where it's all out there for everyone. I say this as a sergeant. You have to stay cool because you set the example for others to follow. And not all do.
