FOP - Please Clarify
From an email, and a few comments the past weekend:
- There’s an issue I think that needs to be brought out ..at the last meeting it was stated that if you get a cr number and you get called more than once , the fop will deny representation for the second statement even if it’s Job related . A bad cr you can be called more than once . We pay 1000 a year in dues and what’s the point if we can’t get legal representation
In this day of re-opened / never closed Log Number investigations, where COPA and IAD release records that are thirty and forty years old along with dredging up past histories and suing cops long since retired (and in some cases, deceased), the need for competent counsel at ANY investigative questioning is unquestionably needed.
What's going on? Did someone misspeak or mishear something?

Who ever made this BS lie should get off of the drugs!
I was at the meeting when this was said. It was explained in a way that made it sound like common practice. Yet we are always told never to go to BIA or COPA without representation
I know of people expecting an FOP lawyer to help them file an appeal on lawsuits that the city won't file, but I can't imagine them not supplying representation for discipline when you have to make a statement. Maybe they're just not going for the presentation of charges when they're not doing any questioning and just getting signatures. I really hope I'm wrong.
I believe the Union was talking about witnesses. Maybe someone can clear this up.
Also in the list of things the department took that FOP didn't contest is furlough /IOD. When on IOD the department will take you off of IOD and give you an end of the year furlough. Instead of carrying it over to next year. This avoids you having more time off or getting paid for it. If you are IOD, it could be serious and could be unable to travel, your plans cancelled but you are still placed in IOD. But hey, nice food trailer that spends more time feeding others then our own members. Helping other lodges is great, but it seems that money could go to other things we need. Like legal representation.
Call Catanzara he’s gotten more Cr numbers on other cops than most civilians ! Ask one of those field reps of their not biking , singing or making burgers for other departments !

This could just be the result of another incompetent unqualified field rep giving out misinformation. I've heard a few po's have needed to inform John's latest lap dog of how legal defense works. John doesn't bring down the people who will best represent the members, he's only interested in those that will turn a blind eye to embezzlement and a blatant disregard to the National Labor Relations Act. Boy and girls, just make sure you know what you're talking about when you call there. If you have questions reach out to an old timer you trust before you call because the fop will try to screw you out of representation you're entitled to and pay for.
The lawyers they use are good. The "legal defense" POs at FOP are a bunch of useless cronies. A bunch of MT Greenwood good ol boys. Isn't that right MC?

I had called the fop for representation for a CR #. I had some retired guy call me from the office and say he would mediate for me so I wouldn't have to give a statement. It didn't sound right so I asked a guy I work with and he told me, "absolutely not," and to demand an attorney. That these guys are not attorneys and that I pay for legal representation. I called back and told them that I want an attorney. I've been wondering if them being reluctant to give me an attorney is tied to all these financial issues I've been hearing that John and his board have been having.
Legal representation at interviews has always been a hallmark of our Lodge. It should never change.

I’ve recently been to COPA to give 2 statements on same incident and had legal representation at both without any issues. I’m assuming the original poster had a misunderstanding as this has never been an issue.

I think the poin is that they already get disaster relief through programs at the State and National Lodge level, all of which we kick dues into. I see no problem establishing a fund officers can donate to, but to relocate dues so John can use a tragedy to campaign for National Lodge, is in poor taste.

Think about it you have more field reps making $160 per year doing what exactly ? Credentials include getting Cr numbers on other cops , singing the National Anthem , riding a bicycle , cooking burgers , leaving prisoners in the back of your wagon and being in front of the Police Board for bringing eighteen year old you coached in high school to Mexico .
In all honesty what are their credentials do any of them have any knowledge of the contract , general orders or mediations ? College degrees in what if any ?
