Chicago taxpayers are being asked to pay $1.25 million to compensate the family of Dexter Reed, who was shot to death by police officers last year after Reed shot and wounded one of them during a traffic stop.
The settlement stems from an “unlawful and unconstitutional traffic stop” by a Chicago Police Department with a “history of these pretextual stops,” said Andrew Stroth, an attorney for the Reed family.
The $1.25 million settlement includes “non-monetary relief for a family committed to reform,” said Stroth, who declined to spell out the specific reforms.
Yeah, because it's a money grab, and Conehead is probably getting a sizable contribution to his reelection fun.
“This case is about an unlawful and violent escalatory traffic stop in a city that has a pattern and practice of these types of discriminatory, pretextual stops,” Stroth told the Sun-Times on Monday.
In a pretexual stop, officers use some minor offense, like a traffic violation, as a pretense to look for more serious things, like guns or drugs.
"Pretexual" is the progressive buzzword for "police stops WE don't like because WE don't have to follow the rules of a civilized society."
A"minor offense" is still a violation of the law and subject to a traffic stop. Looking for something beyond the stop is just good police work, because people who ignore the little things (valid plates, stickers, licenses, cracked windows, tints, unsafe vehicle conditions, stop signs, etc) tend to ignore bigger things, too, like drug and gun laws. A good cop will make observations, gather info and ask questions that will reveal more information.....or at least they used to.
- The officers opened fire after Reed fired first, striking one of five tactical officers in his hand. All of the officers were dressed in plainclothes and were piled into a single SUV. In the days and hours leading up to Reed’s death, those same five officers conducted 50 traffic stops on Chicago’s West Side. None of those 50 stops generated a single citation.
Because that's what they were told to do - the Sparklefart TSSSSSSS cards to prove that cops were observing minor infractions, stopping the offenders, BUT NOT CITING THEM BECAUSE WRITING 50 TICKETS TO MINORITY DRIVERS (in a neighborhood that is 99% minority) WOULD BE RACIST, not to mention financially burdensome and Lord knows, we can't use lawfully authorized fines to correct misbehavior the way the legislature intended.
So the lesson to be learned is:
- stop no one, even if hte commander threatens you with going back into uniform or having to work midnights until you get some actual seniority or
- write everyone and be labeled as racist, because the minute you get shot and justifiably return fire, you'll be crucified in the media, railroaded by CuckFopa, and sold out by Conehead.

A "violent escalatory traffic stop?" What exactly was violent about it before ol' Dexter opened fire on the police? Why did Dexter illegally possess and use a gun? If the police shouldn't use "minor" traffic violations to stop violent armed felons driving around the city, should they just wait for them to start shooting from the car? 1.25 million Dexter Reeds wouldn't be worth a pile of dog shit, so how is one Dexter Reed worth $1.25 million? These lawsuits in general are ridiculous, but especially so when the dead shitbag fired at the police and even hit one of them. Fuck anyone who thinks his family deserves anything but blame for his death. Momma shoulda raised him right if she didn't wanna bury him. May he rot in hell until his momma joins him.

Why doesn’t the shot copper sue the estate of Dexter for injuries and mental duress. Shouldn’t the union be farming this out to an enterprising law firm or shouldn’t the copper wake up and find his own lawyer?
Five young up and coming officers in the dept ruined for absolutely no fucking reason at all . They’re all fucked because a west side menace decided to shoot at officers and reminder ( shoot a black officer ) who will never be able to be a police officer again because his arm will never be the same , constant surgeries constant pain . Dexter Reed had one thing on his mind that day and that was to kill Chicago Police Officers , and be made a martyr or saint which is exactly what this despicable city has done . Five officers have been stuck in ARS for almost an entire year , stress faced media monthly falsely negatively portraying them as bad guys and yet people wonder why CPD leads the nation in suicide .

Great officers held captive in ARS being blasted constantly by the media , even worst they were blasted by some of our own before the video even was released . Some of our own was portraying as a “ execution “ before the video was even released you should all be ashamed of yourselves , every officer that was part of that misleading lie should be ashamed of themselves you’re just as guilty as the despicable slum times and any other disgusting media agency .
These officers have gave up everything for a city that doesn’t give two fucks about them . A officer will never be able to be the police again because the monster shot him in the forearm causing permanent pain . Four other officers who were trying to make a difference will never be able to have a normal career even if COPA doesn’t bend them over because of the stain that they shouldn’t have . We could’ve been burying five officers in March last year but that’s something everyone seems to forget . Reed shot 13 times and if Reed did suffer from mental health that’s a shame mental health is a bitch but you can’t shoot at cops and expect them to get killed first that is absolutely insanity portrayed by the far left anti police hating Democratic Party .
Times like these we shouldn’t be blaming these officers making jokes about them having two years on or for wanting to be a difference maker because we were all there at one point in our careers . We should all be absolutely outraged at the treatment these officers have gotten and if you aren’t your just as guilty and part of the problem . Look out for one another no matter what unit you work , your work ethic or whatever else it may because we’re all we have we have nobody else in our corner besides our families a select few friends and us .
This entire incident has been bad since it started and before it happened and now the officers involved will have to deal with it . Lack of supervision , lack of teaching , poor leadership one of the officers had a year on and shouldn’t have even been on tac yet but was apparently asked to be on the team , filled with a team with a bunch of young officers with no veteran mentorship on the team . Five officers in one squad car a safety concern the whole incident wasn’t safe from the get go , five officers in a a tight space if they got in a accident they would’ve been killed and in this instance it created crossfire immediately on top of Dexter spraying rounds everywhere .
I’d were honest most stops fall into two categories: filling a number or searching for something. They’re right mostly, these 06 teams and tac teams are making hundreds of traffic stops with no intention on writing tickets or correcting driving behavior, they’re only looking for a gun or drug pinch. We know that is true. They know that is true. Why not just admit it? We have teams on this department making traffic stops for the sole reason of searching for illegal guns and drugs. If they want that to stop because it’s pretextual they’re right. They are not technically right because an officer can just say I was trying to enforce traffic laws and I saw something in the stop. But they are absolutely right because none of these tac teams or 06 teams have any intentions on writing a mover. They will write a mover if they make an arrest but only if they find that gun. Everyone knows this but can’t say it because then we’d be admitting the truth of it.
The second type of stop is to fill a number. 15 blue cards and you get to go home type of stuff. Again, no intention on writing a ticket or correcting behavior, just getting that stop number to fill a quota.
I would wager an actual traffic stop conducted to actually address a violation with no real other intention, no quota to fill, not trying to find a gun or drugs,
1/100 stops, maybe even fewer than that.
Here's an idea....how about the union provide attorneys or the officers engaged in these incidents and are hurt or wounded hire attorneys and counter sue to recover some of the same large payouts the city gives to the offender or its family. Don't we suffer psychological and emotional damage after having engaged in a shooting. Hmmmmm. Time to start setting a precedent!

When the city wins the case hold the ambulance chasing scumbag attorney accountable and charge him a $50,000 minimum fee for city’s cost of representation and charge 7% interest per month on any outstanding balance.
It’s the vulture attorneys that need to be brought to heel. Who’s launder money then?
It really is amazing that you can shoot a police officer and the police are made to be at fault for stopping this shit head. This is why you do nothing. You can’t get in trouble for having zero activity. Here’s the bottom line you get paid the same amount of money as the kid that’s out there doing proactive policing and you get none of the stress.
