CFD Uniting with....CTU?

formed an alliance Chicago Teachers Union. They should go into this with
their eyes wide open. CFD is aligning itself with a
union that is demanding a contract that will effectively cost upwards
of $3 billion and wreck both the schools and city’s finances. Take a
guess at which union contract will receive priority by the former CTU
lobbyist turned mayor?It should not be forgotten that the CTU was silent as police struggled for 5 years to complete a contract. Where has CTU “solidarity” been for firefighters and paramedics while they have waited 4 years for a contract?While firefighters and paramedics waited to settle their contracts and the city cut over 2,100 public safety positions, CTU members enjoyed salary increases ranging from 24-48% and schools added 9,000 more positions.On top of receiving 56% of all property tax revenue, CPS receives additional city subsidies totaling almost $1 billion and will even need more to finance the CTU contract.The CTU is no friend of public employee unions. It consumes an ever larger share of taxpayer dollars and expands membership at other unions expense while actively demonizing the police.Just ask SEIU how that’s going.
Are fire fighters are expecting CTU to support them via a picket line or something? Maybe some sort of "me-too" clause to finally finish their contract? This would make our suggestion that the CTU be declared "essential" and therefore unable to strike an immediately bigger issue.
We would also warn that this will only give ammunition to those who seek to disband and ban ALL public sector unions moving forward. The CTU is headed for a hard fall at some point as they attempt to bankrupt Chicago.

At this point we should just let the unions completely loot the city and bankrupt everyone. The sooner we get to the point like in Goodfellas where "when you cant borrow another buck from the bank you bust the joint out", the better.
Only difference is in this case instead of lightning a match, you place everything in receivership like they did Detroit.
Cpd still doesn’t have a contract. The last actual contract ended in 2017.
Never trust a fireman. They are a bunch of gossip mongers. They have to respond to EMS calls to justify their existence. They fight maybe 1 or 2 real fires a year. not the dryer fire or the burning food on the stove. They are one of 2 jobs that are paid for lying on their backs. Years ago a old timer told me to watch out for firemen because they think they are the Police. They would show up on scene and tell me who to arrest. Many times as a Detective I tried to get fireman to make statements or show up to court but these "hero's" suddenly got cold feet. Too scared to go to court. Now CFD Paramedics on the other hand have my respect. They work their asses off on shift. They do more in one shift then fireman do in 6 months.

I do not know a single Chicago FF the agrees with Local 2 decision to "stand" with the CTU. Not one and I would know.

I remember a fire in a pizza place on Diversey near Harlem.. We show up and I notice the cash register on the floor all busted up with axes. No paper money, only change on the floor. I asked if that was on fire too.

This is a bone headed move by Local 2's leaders. The membership probably is not for it. The CTU is toxic. There is nothing to be gained by this entanglement and a lot to lose.
Why would this surprise anyone? To end the strike in 1981 Local 2 President Frank Muscare (?) partnered with Jesse Jackson to end their strike. At the time they had the majority of the City Council sticking up for them but decided to go their own way. Old timers will remember Jackson saying something like you ain’t got to be no genius to hold a hose and put out a fire. Was like the Civil War. In some cases it pitted brother against brother and nearly ruined the CFD.
Some people still haven’t gotten over it. Now the ahole leadership of Local 2 is doing the same reaching out to people who don’t have the fireman’s best interest at heart. Hope this doesn’t end the same way.

Retired here...In my career, There was more time that we didnt have a contract than times we did work under a contract. I once asked a union representative why we dont go into negotiations sooner? He said sometimes by the time a contract is signed theres so little time left on that contract the city just waits until it expires again.
CFD may be doing the smart move here. There is a time coming when unions will be fighting for scraps at the table. CTU is likely to get a larger piece of that scrap. CPD will be left out like a redheaded stepchild at that time.

What would you think if you found out that your prez Cantanzara took my prez Cleary and other CFD union peeps out to dinner last week (YES… on YOUR dime, FOP members, I overheard them laughing that “we finally got a free meal for all the times coppers eat at our houses”). They discussed all 3 of our unions (CFD, CPD & CTU) banding together to take a run at Mayor Johnson. The whole “strength in numbers” approach. So just a heads up to all of you officers, your prez speaks with forked tongue.

Hey dumbfuck, I never said I heard YOU. I overheard PC and the fellas talking about what was discussed at the dinner you bought them last Thursday. You really are a narcissist ain’t ya, just have to be the center of attention— Such a sad little man. The detective is right, you just told on yourself. And I’m anonymous because I’m smarter than you, just remember that.
Because this is an issue that doesn't impact the FOP President and it's board. The FOP is paid Captain and Commanders pay with our dues. The only thing they care about os raises cause when we get a raise we have to pay more dues. They could careless about the other issues that actually pertain to the members.

Chew on this … if J-Pussy spent 1/2 as much time “allowing” dues paying members their bylaw-protected/guaranteed access to FOP financial records as he spends on SCC, there probably wouldn’t be anywhere near as many instances of what appears to be fiscal fraud and abuse reported to various federal agencies.
Here’s an idea , put 🔥 fighters on 8 hour shifts, in a rotating day off group. Cut the fat ,it’s top heavy with do nothing Supervisors. Take away the 🛌 too much hanky pinky going on. Just watch Chicago 🔥,more action there than a strip club. They work ( show up) 80 days a year. Some less ,medical,baby leave,IOD from pulling a hose. 8 hours a day would cause less injuries. 🔥 fighting after being woke up from a deep sleep is dangerous. I’m a 24 year paramedic with the CFD. Trust me when I say probably 95% of the CFD does not agree with what our incompetent Local 2 union is doing regarding the CTU. First it was COVID, when they caved on the vaccine mandate and told us to just get the shot and shut up. Then when they heard about the FOP taking their vaccine mandate fight all the way to arbitration, they tried to jump on your coat tails. Now this nonsense with aligning with the CTU. I’m ready to go fair share and withdraw as a full union member because of this. I wish there was a way the 800 paramedics could join the FOP. Local 2 gets a vote of no confidence from this member and I’m sure many, many others!
I won't give them that 30 minutes. I show up, hang around a few minutes, and go home. 30 minutes is less than the 15 minute drive, it annoys the boss too. I'm on my watch by bid. So, you know what they say,.... pay me.
