Street takeovers by stunt drivers and spectators who take over intersections have been causing headaches across Chicago for several years. While entire social media pages are dedicated to sharing videos of the events, it’s rare to see footage of Chicago police aggressively addressing a takeover.
Today, we’re pleased to share some video that shows exactly that: cops rolling into a takeover in Lincoln Park, tossing tire deflation sticks under the tires of escaping cars, and making arrests.
The footage of the March 2 takeover comes from a city surveillance camera mounted on a pole on the corner of Fullerton and Cannon Drive, right next to Lincoln Park Zoo. It shows the entire event, from the arrival of the first participant to arrestees being hauled away in squad cars.
And then, amazingly, the StopSticks come out, some tires got flattened, and two people actually went to jail. Someone drove down a nearby bicycle path to get away, but we're stunned that anyone ended up in handcuffs.
No word if this is a going to be a regular thing. The video is all the way back from 02 March, which was a Sunday night, and the entire Street Takeover Unit was rumored to be off weekends....you know, when street takeovers actually happen.
Maybe it was just Friday and Saturdays?

The street takeover unit does nothing besides get plates from PODS for later impound orders and eat pizza
The bigger question is what were the criminal charges? Con County Special slap on the wrist with double secret probation and a promise never to do it again?

The unit isn't off weekends. It's on an RDO. The entire unit... so the entire unit has weekends off every four weeks. So hopefully the takeover guys don't find out what weekend that is.
Are you freaking kidding me... watch the video again and see how unsafe, dangerous and reckless these POs were ... driving into the hornets nest, then got out of their vehicles and then actually chased on foot after cars trying to throw those stop sticks under their tires ... all while 5k+ pound heaps of metal come bearing at them as they try to escape the scene... and for what ?? Why did you spike their tires offfice? What crime did you observe them commit? They just happened be at the location which 95% of them were ... and they couldn't get out or move until police arrived and the cars that were blocking their path moved ... stupied stupied stupied
Happens all the time the things get broken up but nobody reports on it. Watch the cameras in 8, 4, 1, 12. They caught some arsonist at the car clubs weeks ago too. Nobody cares till people care. Hopefully they hit each other more and people stop going.
Where was Tom Homan and team? Perfect time to grab illegals doing and being illegal.
Also, surprised the brave CPD didn't simultr block off all streets a block beyond. Oh wait, manpower and equipment issues. Never mind. Thrilled they caught several.
Keep a watch over your tires. Am guessing they'll need to steal a few replacements. Bet the cars were hot and I'm not just mentioning from the activity... Be safe everyone

First listed as 0300-1200 hrs to work when the crimes were surging only to be switched to 3rd watch hours. Cannot have the connected people working those hours. What a joke.
Two arrests is pretty pathetic, let's be honest. There must be something you can get the spectators in who lit the street on fire and got in the middle of the fire, got struck by the vehicle. It'll stop when you get the paddy wagons out and start charging them with disturbing the peace, reckless endangerment, etc. I'm sure Burke would back you...

Fuck all that. Running around a crowd of cars eager to flee the scene and attempting to deploy spike strips on whatever car is closest to you, that’s just begging to be run over causing you or another officer to open fire, and then what? “Officer why did you place yourself in danger? Why didn’t you de-escalate? What exactly was my client being arrested for? He was just trying to get away from the chaotic scene….now he’s dead….”

The car caravan unit is filled with dimwit young coppers with no sense, no way they have any connections.

The stop stick order made these things useless the second they were issued.
lol SSC, that is the drag racing unit. You can request them on zone4. They always operate as seen in the video.

Use body cam footage and send it to the insurance providers. When insurers won't insure your vehicle or charge exorbitant rates with limited coverage, the asphalt gangstas will get real enforcement by insurance companies hitting them in their male purses. And writing tickets for a non insured vehicle will not only cost a state mandated fine, but those costly court "fees" which are upwards of $200.
Happy for what? These officers will be in civil court or suspended. What happened to the DC Nieves? If DC is fucked over that means you dumb ass blue shirts will be crucified. Putting yourself in danger? Really? That’s your f’n job. Firemen go on to burning roofs and into buildings on fire. Com Ed people go up in baskets next to high power electrical lines during thunderstorms to restore power. Teachers go into classrooms in Englewood every day. Grow a pair, do you job and preserve order on the streets.

You sound like a moron. When firemen, com ed guys, or teachers start getting suspended, sued or criminally charged for "putting themselves in danger" then maybe you can make the comparison to police. Until that starts happening, go back to mommy's basement
